I would like to see tractor beams be able to lock onto ememy ships and draw them into your ship. Blasters and ships that depend on webbers would benifit from this greatly, it would also be an excellent way to kill Nano ships . The ship that has most weight to it should pull the lighter ship into its range. Any ideas on this? Pro's Con's?

Interceptors would quickly become suicide with no way to stay out of nos range, Mid-range ships wanting to avoid a blaster or autocannon ship would become dragged in to the higher dps zone and lose.
You'd need to have a counter to it, a module that repels the effects, and that's getting too grand. ---------------------------------------- Proposed new ship class |

Lol that actually sounds like a nice idea. Ppl will just need to fit more plates to counter it.

There's two active mid slot items, Afterburner and Microwarpdrive, as well as two-ish passive low slot items: Nanofiber and Overdrive. Stories. |

That would be funny. There is nothing like pulling a ceptor to your smartbomb ship shouting "Come to papa" in local. :D ______________________________________________________________

I always look at falloff for stuff like this. Anything that stays out of 10km, and outflies you will dictate range, will be somewhat invulnerable to webs, and will be able to escape scram when they want.
A tractor that pulls in ships just like that is simply too easy though. However, falloff, would make a nice stat. It won't actually grab the inty and slow it down to 0 or anything, but rather slow it down a bit, at ranges bigger than 10km, giving chance to do SOME damage, and maybe even catch up with it.
Most nano-setups can passive-shield tank dmg atm, without extenders or anything.. Because the speed is simply too high. They take 1-0% dmg, if that was 5-10 with the help of tractors it'd be alot better imo.

This is an interesting idea. It would certainly require balancing but would also give a reason to have medium and large tractor beams in the game (all with a 20km range)...
You could have the tractor beams use a similar calculation to ABs and MWDs, the higher the mass of the target ship the harder they are to tractor in. A small tractor beam would hardly be able to move a battleship sized vehicle but could snag an inty fairly well, especially if it was using a bunch of inertia stabilizers to lower mass.
To balance it you'd probably have to make it so tractor beams had a separate lock time (ie: you click to activate them and then the game calculates how long it will take to latch on to the target ship based on the size of the tractor beam and the size/mass of the target ship as well as how fast the ship is moving, etc), therefore a large tractor beam would be useless against an interceptor.

Interdictor with 8x tractor beams would not only make the warp bubbles, but make sure that nothing got out of them!

A tractor beam pulls at 500m/s, if they flew away at more than 500m/s away from the tractor beam (assuming only one tractor beam was on them) they would slowly get away? And heavier ships might pull slower? (battleship weighs a lot more than a frigate)
Perhaps even the introduction of bigger tractor beams (only have 'small' at them moment...not sure if any others exist but if so i haven't seen them.

I like the idea of the beam having a "pulling speed" and a ship with a greater speed than the beam would pull away... Unless more beams were applied.

Ha it would end up like the Borg in star trek or something
Crow vs Blasterthron...
"They've locked on, they're pulling us in." "Fire all weapons!!" <crow fires some rockets> "No effect!"

So long as amarr can get a high slot item for their utility high that pushes ships away from them, that is fine.
Also, since it moves ships, it might have some issues with breaking allignments and acting as a scrambler as well as as tractor.
All in all it seems like a bad idea. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

It sounds like a great idea to me.
Tractors pull defenseless wrecks at 500m/s. I think we can safely assume efficiency would be much worse against an actively piloted ship. So, I'd say any frigate-sized ship in the grip of a tractor beam gets a 250 m/s vector toward the tractoring vessel. I'd say reduce that by ten percent in steps as ship classes get more massive, because you don't want the anomaly of being able to pin a battleship to you but not being able to "tracter in" a vastly smaller vessel.
Not enough to be overpowering, but it would vastly slow the orbit speed of fast orbiters and increase the time for any ship to escape / open the range. Plus, as mentioned, mess up alignments and generally screwing with folks whose strategies rely upon precise navigation.
I honestly don't see people giving up a high slot for this dubious advantage, at least not routinely. But there would be entertaining strategies involving multiple tractors, and all the folks flying around in utility ships with tractors fitted would get *just* that much more fun.

Small ships don't need any more of a nerf, thanks. Inties are useful atm even if assault frigates aren't really, so no. Please, do not make this the case, or as soon as you engage a larger ship you will be nossed, webbed and scrambled.
no no no.

this would be a great idea,
mabey, create an attraction force betwean the too ships, so they pull each other togeter, (based on there mass and sig radios (so inties arnt insta nerfed)).

This sounds like a great idea. I'd love nothing more than having all the training time I've put into small ships go completely to waste. Heavy nos isn't nearly devastating enough, lets put a mod in there to ensure that I can never escape --- Hey hey let's go kenka suru! Taisetsuna mono protect my balls! Boku ga warui so lets fighting!
