For a person that does not have the 3+ hours a day to play MMO's charging 14.95Euro/month is outrageous amount of money to pay.
I would play this game around 10hrs a month and paying $22CDN/month (over $200 a Year!) is out of the question.
By not charging per hour of active game time and by the by day I feel they are ripping us off.
It should be charged by the hour of active game time to be fair, not by charged by the day, especially when you are inactive or an infrequent player.
I will not purchase account especially when I have to set up a ping every time I want to play so I won't get logged out every 5mins.
Great game destroyed either by bad management or greed.

A. No one is forcing you to play
B. You can pay for the game with isk and not with real money if needed.
C.14.95 is a little less then an hours work for a whole month of play. ---------------------------

Why would they set up a system that discouraged people from playing? It seems utterly senseless to me. The last thing CCP wants, I imagine, is their players to think to themselves "Gee, I would love to play some Eve... but I've already spent $11 this month, so I should cut back."

All MMOs I know of that have a subscription cost do it monthly like this. Could you imagine how much some people would have to pay if it was down hourly? It would be insane! You shouldn't just think of yourself with these kinds of things. So what, its inconvenient to you, because you can't play loads. Consider how inconvenient it would be to those who can play lots, or want to play lots if it was done like you suggest. Overall it is cheaper to subscribe monthly than hourly for pretty much everyone. If you don't want to pay that, no-one is forcing you, but that doesn't mean anyone is getting ripped off.

Okay - you're right - I miss spoke however. I would get to play this game about 10hrs per month(less then one day) however, I'm paying for thirty.
I think something should be setup for the 'light players' that is more cost effective..

You really need to do some research before you start demanding special pricing for yourself; I use to play a game called "Dragonrealms", Link, a textbased game that charges you:
Base subscription: $14.95 / month for one character $2.50 / month for additional characters (As in per character) $40.00 per special event (quests) $29.95 / month for "Premium" subscription, 10 characters, a house, more space in a vault. (includes basic subscription benefits) $39.95 / month for "Platinum", access to Premium, Basic, and a "special" server where you cannot break character, or you'll be banned... $5.00 / month for "The Fallen", where you can kill people without getting in trouble. (Ya, thats right, its against the rules to kill players unless you can prove that it was within their "objective-view" of the rules)
What makes me sick is that people actually pay $40.00+ a month for a game, sometimes more when they want multiple accounts. So I suggest you open wide and let CCP shove whatever they want down your financial throat; b/c its still a damn good deal.

I do find this funny, because MMOS are not normal games, and they are constantly changing and servers need maintaining.
Nones forcing you to play, if you dont like playing per month dont play. Its THAT simple.

Okay - got it - thank for the feedback.
I'll go month to month, see how it goes but I'm not a 'full-time' player so it may not be worth it.

Edited by: Baron Oxes on 25/01/2007 18:51:14 How much would you pay to drink somewhere for 10 hours? Or watch 10 hours of films at a cinema? Analogies aren't the best thing, but you get the idea :) You're paying for a months access to the servers (in fact, technically, you're paying for an account - access isn't guaranteed) - you can play 23 hours a day if you've got the time or you can play for 10 minutes. Say I leave my client logged in throughout the day and minimise it, maybe opening it up to do a mission or check my mail every now and then, I should pay for all the time I'm logged in?
Basically, I don't think this is a good idea. *EDIT* Not to be overly critical, and I hope you enjoy the game and maybe find some more time to play :)

I came here from Entropia Universie (aka project entropia) which is a 'free' MMO. No monthly charges to play, but I would regularly spend $100-$200 a month (everything in the game costs money) and I was on the low end. One month I spent $1500. Compared to that, this game is dirt cheap!

Of course, even if you play 10 hours per month, $22 is still cheap entertainment. How many movies do you know of that charge less than $2 per hour?

Free ones on TV. Rent Ghandi for 2$. I only watch select movies in the theater. That was bad example.
Just a FYI - ideal research is not conducted by looking at what other companies are charging. My understanding is these companies are charging this amount because they can and users are willing to pay it. Other companies will band together to keep the price at a level they like.
That said, if you guys think it's fair, I'll try it out for a while. thanks for your feedback.

The other thing to remember is that with real time skill training, you don't "fall behind" as you would in other games. Even though you might only get 10 hours a week or so, you're still able to train 168 hours a week.
But the other side of things is MMORPGs really aren't designed for people who don't have "free time" to devote to the game. There are plenty of single player, pauseable, saveable games out there for limited time people. MMORPGs though, while not always requiring time, do reward time spent. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | How to Build from a BPO |

I buy GTC's from shatteredcrystal. Final bill on my credit card was less than $18CDN/month. A three month payment cost me less than $16CDN/month.
Eve cannot work on a pay by the hour model, because game play continues even if you are not online. Yes, CCP is out to make money. Who could expect otherwise. However, unlike many other games out there, they provide a quality product that they are constantly improving, and are not charging anything more than the subscription for those improvements. I hardly think you fairly say it has been "destroyed either by bad management or greed."

It is not 14.95 euros per month. It is 14.95 for the initial registration and first month. Thereafter if you pay monthly (the most expensive way) it is cheaper.
It is all relative. I look at it like one or two bottles of wine per month per account. I certainly get more entertainment out of an accout for one month than I get from a couple of bottles of wine. Proud to be a CareBear |

You do know that skills train while you are offline in this game right? In my opinion that fact right there makes it worth the subscription cost.

You're right, it's $19.95 to start an account and $14.95 each month past the first on the monthly plan. It ends up being a bit more for European players due to VAT in some countries I think. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | How to Build from a BPO |

Not to really add any fuel to the fire because I know the OP understands now but everyone forgot that updates/expansions are free in Eve. No other MMO does this.

I just wanted to weigh in on this discussion and make a couple little points.
Quote: I would play this game around 10hrs a month and paying $22CDN/month (over $200 a Year!) is out of the question.
Canadians are not required to pay the Euro fee, we pay the US dollar fee which works out to around $17 CAN.
Quote: Great game destroyed either by bad management or greed.
It's a typical payment setup for a MMOG and you don't have to buy the game or any expansions.
The multiple month payment options are quite reasonable.
EVE is well worth worth it

Actually I think CCP is one of the few mmo companies that actually earns the 15 dollars.
WoW didn't have a substantial patch for 2 years.
Thats why theres so many companies jumping on the MMORPG bandwagon, you build a game, sell the box, then milk the subscriptions for years with minimal work just tweaking variables.
Anyway, you've been living in socialist Canada too long my friend.
If you think a service is too expensive, open a competing service, do a better job for less, and steal all their customers.
Can't?
Then stfu and fork over the 15 dollars.

Great posts everyone, Thanks for your feedback again.
Some of you have convinced me to give it ago and get over my fear of paying a subscription.
Just an FYI: it's not 17CDN 14.95 EUR = 22.8573 CAD (www.xe.com)

As was staited earlier. Why pay in Euro's? It is more expensive. As per your link 14.95 USD = 17.6835 CAD.

You'll find payment option info in the Knowledgebase. But, basically the Europeans pay the Euro prices and the rest of the world pay in American dollars:

And even then I expect that Europeans only pay in Euro's if they can't find a reasonable exchange rate so they can pay in dollars.
