Does anyone really like them there?
Wrecks should always have been a PvP only feature: mission runners and ratters did not need:
a) More profit b) More boring tasks c) More **** cluttering up their screens.
Obviously you'd have to vastly decrease rig building requirements, but they are stupid at the moment anyway.

Yet now they are whining that they have too many wrecks, just because they killed hundreds of ships

a) as per (b) and (c) and current drop rate it is hardly a profit b) true c) true
However.
If you make wrecks a PvP only thing (as in, they drop from player ships only) rig prices will make HAC prices look fine and dandy.
My thoughts on the whole thing?
Up until now CCP's mini-professions were successful and did not mess with other aspects of gameplay. They were optional. If you wanted to do them [mini-professions] you could do it - more power (and ISK) to you.
Salvaging in it's current state messes with other aspects (missions, NPCing) way too much. That much, I think, is obvious. It only brings frustration to the table.
No doubt Devs have a plan. We'll see how it works out.
My suggestion?
Have wracks and cans both. Loot drops in cans, wracks are salvageable. Everyone's happy. Vultures salvage wracks, looters loot cans, someone does both.
No, this does not generate more lag (certainly not more then the current situation) and most likely won't touch your FPS.
Everyone's happy.

This might be a good idea.
Remove all wrecks and replace with cans. Only have wrecks apply to player ships.
And massively boost salvage amounts.

That would have to be a truly MassiveÖ boost.

Edited by: Raith Seinar on 02/12/2006 13:03:52 As someone who only has time to run maybe a mission a night, I agree. Currently I end up with between 10 and 40 (depending on the L2 mission) wrecks around the screen. Massive FPS drop and 95% of them contain no loot.
I'd be happiest with a system where the wreck stays on screen until it's looted; once you loot it, it pops as the cans did. At least then it can be salvaged then looted, or just looted and popped.

leave wrecks in
just add a tag that will show if it contains loot
and all the people whining bout fps drop can either get with the times and upgrade their pos computer, or deal with it

Or leave EVE because Devs made it so that they can no longer play.
Not really a heartwarming option.

I wasn't kidding when I said VASTLY lower build requirements (vastly higher salvage rates isn't such a good idea due to cargohold issues)

My Valka's Modified Reading Comprehension module seems to be malfunctioning.
I misread that.
Yes. Lowering the build requirements. Well. There's a fine line between 'too common' and 'rare' and it is damn hard to walk this line.
We'll see what Devs cook up.

your right, does indeed seem a tad harsh, but its true.
think its bad now? just wait, sides, with todays technology zooming along its like some people wanna bring an edsel to nascar, then get upset when they cant compete.

You of course have a very valid point.
Thing is, I've never really notice that cans or wracks have any sort of impact on FPS.

I concur with the "How about NO" crowd.
And making wrecks only appear on PvP fight wouldn't mean that carebear industrialists wouldn't find a way to make plentyful of wrecks, and riggs' materials of course. I know a way I thought with only the minute that I needed to read through this thread.
- Create lots of the cheapest ship that leaves wrecks
- ???
- PROFIT!!!
I leave step 2 as an excercise to the reader.
Have fun.
P.S. Damn relatives and their problems with computers...

I just ran a level4 (Pirate Slaughter), and I made 3x as much from salvage as from bounty/loot/reward.
I have salvage level1

How about no, it makes no sence from any perspective to have NPC ships drop cans and player ships drop wrecks.

If I am not in error currently the situations is:
NPC ships only the kind of ship that can be found in belts have salvage. When those ship are found in missions they have salvage, but all the other mission ships (even the large ones or T2 equivalent) don't have salvage
PC ships Frigate give only scrap metal, bigger ships better material. T2 rigs componet only from T2 player ships.
So i would say that most of your wishes have been granted, as usual in a distorted way. Enjoy.

To the OP. As a mission runner i would not mind this. I have to search every wreck with a salvager to make it go pop. This has extended my loot gathering time by maybe 400%. I run missions because my play time is limited. I hear a fix is coming on Tuesday but cannot find the details. Can anyone point me in the direction of the notes?

Doesn't make sense to have some ships leave wrecks and some not... What makes PvP so uber to deserve salvaging wrecks. Heck, if that was the case, we'd have like 1% of the salvage material than we do already!

LOL, go ask in a mission system.... and if you know a bit about marketing then you'll probably know that one person actually complaining represents a huge number of other dissapointed players.
so,.. go figure

To the OP NO NO NO, again someone who complains about people who live in empire.... jeez, loot the wrecks then shoot em if you dont want to salvage, u can destroy the wrecks,by shooting at them.
CCP isnt going to change just cause certain people dont like them, and for those who complain about mission runners making billions an hour, salvaging just slowed down the missions, if someone wants to salvage. i know alot of people before the release just run the missions and left the loot behind. and they probably will just continue doing the same thing ----------------------------------------------- In the End , there can be only 1

salaving skills are going to become easier soon so if there are 100s of wrecks all floating about in empire belts then people will start to salvage them
like flys drawn to a turd i guarentee the salvagers will come
