Alice Katsuko wrote:Very nice change. But please consider adding an "Advanced Search" drop-down panel or something for those who won't read this dev blog, or at least a link to this dev blog so that future players can know about this functionality.
We have the designs for better visibility and usability, but we could not get it in for this expansion. We will definitely refine this a bit and make it less secret. |

Dark Magnetar wrote:"station" indeed seems to be a valid keyword as used in the examples, despite not being included in the full list.
Ups, my bad station is indeed a keyword. Lets see if I can't update the blog and the wiki.

Hylax Ciai wrote:So this is what CCP calls usability? How is this even remotely friendly to new players who don't know about metagroups, categories and item groups? What about adding a search interface similar to the one for the contracts? That is sort of the point. The initial change was to simplify the interface. We don't want to clutter our interface with every conceivable search term in an assortment of tick boxes and drop down menus. When most people don't understand half of the options. Yet we want to allow power users to have access to those options. I agree that more can be done to present players with what options are available and we have plans to improve that. |

I"m afraid this is out of scope for what I have been working on but I'll raise the issue.

Misanth wrote:Frellicus really need better names for his ships.
That is a bit unfair. A packaged titan can't have a unique name. When I take them out for a spin I'll give them a proper deserving name and smash some horrendously expensive bottle for the occasion... every time.

They did have to remove parts of the station to park the vessel but it all worked out fine in the end. |

Pierced Brosmen wrote:Could parts of this keyword feature also be implemented in the Filter in hangars and container windows? Like if you have a container full of loot, you could type in the Filter metalevel:4 for example.
Would also be very usefull if the asset search could search for items inside containers or ship cargohold with keywords like container:true and cargo:true ? I'm asking this cause I find it a bit funny that 3'rd party applications can do that based on the API information, but the in-game search can't (at least the old one couldn't, haven't got around to test this new one yet).
If this is generally well received we will be looking in to introducing filtering this to other places like corp assets and even inventory filters.
As for the cargo and containers that has to do with nested database queries (read: lots of DB load) but why it differs from the 3rd party API is something I'll look into. Won't make any promises about that though.

Gripen wrote:Devblog wrote:Also, the minimum size of the asset window can now be a lot smaller. Need... 50... pixels... more. I mean c'mon there is still plenty of space to cut. Seems to be pretty powerful extension but can't imagine someone to have so much cluttered assets to need even fraction of available options. But it's so much better than having myriad of input boxes.
When we added the "sort by" options earlier this year we had to expand the minimum width of the assets window and that apparently made some people very sad because they stacked their assets window with some other small windows. So making the minimum size small again will hopefully make those same people happy again - I thought this was very important to mention in the blog CCP Punkturis | EVE UI Developer |

Gevlin wrote:since this is a complicated feature and not that 'natural' for us retired foke can there be a web link on the bottom right corner of search box header that will load up the Eve Wiki in the in game browser box. So almost a "whats this" button.
We do have designs that will integrate keyword hints and accessible in game documentation of the options but we where out of time to implement it. We agree that out of game documentation is not ideal at all. At least the functionality is there. I'm positive this will get some love in the coming weeks and/or months.

This is of interest to me also.
Skipping all Erebuses with sloppy paint jobs or a bad cooks would obviously be beneficial.

Ciar Meara wrote:That looks quite confusing, I might help power users, but only if they know of it existence. How will players find the keywords for this search when your devblog has disappeared?
A more advance menu with a thickbox for these options would be a much better way and clearer way to enhance the search experience.
As you can see from Frellicus' replies in this thread then the plan is to continue iterating on this. |

Experiment H197 wrote:I remember a long time back trying to search for one of my ships by what I named it and it didn't seem to work. Was a feature like that ever added? I still have trouble remembering the type names, especially if it's been a while since I've logged on due to RL, but I always remember what I named it. It would be nice to say, "hmm... where did I have Bebop docked?" and just search for "Bebop" in the search field.
Sadly that is not included right now but it is on my list of improvements for next iteration.

Jacob Holland wrote:While the ability to search for metalevels and metatypes is going to be pretty awesome I have a request for additional day to day functionality... Give us the ability to search for Ore rather than specific ores (of if that's already possible then someone tell me how ). I buy a reasonable quantity of ore, of various types and with multiple jump ranges on the orders and it sucks when it comes to collecting it all up to have to search for Plagioclase, Veld...etc, turning up mining crystals and so forth in the process... One search which showed everything from Aristite to Arkonor would be awesome... Sounds like Category:Asteroid would hit the spot. |
