Game Time Code Rules
Because of the high number of ETC scams we get in our queues we making a few rules to make ETC trading more secure. If you do not follow the rules below you may not be eligible for reimbursement if you fall victim to an ETC scam.
- Do not trade with anyone that has not been in the games for at least 15 days. Before trading check the playerÆs employment history. If he was created in the last 2 weeks then call the deal off.
- When you have agreed on a price, both parties will send an ingame EVEmail to one another where they will list.
* The number of codes being sold. * The type of codes (30 day, 50 day etc.) * The agreed upon price.
- For example if you are buying/selling 2 x 30 day code for 150 million each both parties will send a message something like this: ôSelling/buying two thirty day codes for 300 million ISKö.
- When both parties have sent an EVEmail the buyer will send his ISK. In the comment field he will enter what exactly heÆs paying for. The number of codes and their types. In the above example he would enter ô2 x 30 day ETCö.
- When the ISK has been received the seller will send the codes in an EVEmail.
- If you are scammed then file a petition in the Exploit category as soon as possible. Include a link to the forum auction.
If you don't follow the above rules you may not be eligible for reimbursement!

Originally by: Pestillence Sounds like sensible precautions.
It's a shame you can't see people on trial accounts, then you could ask people not to deal with them.
If you check employment history in game, and the person is less than 15 days old, he is likely a trial account, or at least a very new account or alt. In either case, you shouldn't trust him.

Originally by: Veroon Coch Looking at the number of new (less than 1 day) players posting GTC for ISK threads, would it be possible for the MODs and GMs to do a bit of account pruning?
We go through the forums a few times every day, and remove a lot of those threads.
Originally by: Audrea What if I would require the seller to change the order of things? I mean, first he sends me the code, I verify it, then send cash.
Would the seller still be covered by CCP protection in such order of transaction as well by the new rules?
Probably because it's easier to deal with people who lost ISK to a scammer than people who lost a GTC to a scammer. I don't know if you would be protected, I doubt it. Either way, it's better to do it the "old" way.
Originally by: Grenouille hello. there is a person on the sell forums here, that sais she or he sels GTC. ingame the "characters" are 1 day old. it is the same person as i checked the bad english that he or she speaks. wouldnt it be better to prohibit the selling of GTC of characters less than 15 days? so i personally will check the sellers and post that they are scammers. after my oppinion all the characters less than 15 days are scammers.
A character younger than 15 days isn't necessarily a scammer and a character above 15 days might still be a scammer. But making sure the person you buy of is older than 15 days ensures it's a real account and not a trial account, which increases security a bit. These rules are not a complete solution, but they do help a lot in decreasing scams and catching scammers.
Originally by: Grenouille hey chieftain, is there a way to track their ip (scammers)? i know that there is :) . come on let't do somethinga bout this. you are doing a great work blocking the threads. i like that. we can kick em hard with no return if u can track their ip's. at least for a while. hope they don't have dinamic IP's.
We deal with scammers as we catch them, and as I said, these rules will help us catch them.
Originally by: Sharon Velerii Why reason in payment should't be enough? You need to send mail to everyone and wait for their. I think Payment with reason, and evemail with the codes should be enough why are we complicating so much? Anyway, only 5% of people will do it like you say.
The more we have to go by, the better it is. I seriously doubt people are willing to lose their hard earned ISK by being too lazy to follow these simple steps. But if they are, I guess they will risk not being reimbursed.

Please continue reporting GTC scams to us. It simply IS NOT Allowed no matter what and we will continue to act according to our policies.
The most normal way people get scammed is by trusting players with no player history, corp history and standings. I would refrain from buying from these.
Thank you all for helping us rid EVE of illegal scams.

We will continue to ban GTC scammers as Senior GM Fate previously stated in this thread. It's simply not allowed. We will investigate each case thoroughly, the only thing this means is that if you were scammed and did not follow the rules in this thread you MIGHT not be eligble for reimbursement. Again, it's something that we will need to investigate in each and every case.
Thanks for understanding.

You can buy a GTC as an alt, it's only the sellers who are prohibited from selling as alts.
