I dont think its that bad.
I have gotten my head kicked in a couple of times by that...Its funny! You jump in and your white goes to red and your little message says "megathron hits you for a wrecking!" You get like 2 seconds in that slow ass pod before you wake up in a spacestation!
It gets ya, you go WTF? The first time it happened to me, I thought the game was bugged...I was cussing out the game
You just get your insurance and go buy another ship!

You know why...
a) because you really can never kill them, gate camping is very safe. so people get bored of all warping in so 1 guy can pass through when the priates scatter.
b) EVE is soo littered with scammers that people rarely work together, and even more rarely would our common goal be to scare the priates away because we all wanted to cross xxx system.
c) even more rare is the fact that people who want to pass XXX are doing so in pvp set ups, they are always haulers, or mission runners, or ratters, so they would have to go re outfit for pvp, just to scare priates off, only to comeback after refitting thier ships only to find in the 20 minutes it took to reconfig your ship the priates have returned.....
Look tehsaint, your a nice guy, but you also don;t have a very good perception of this issue, you're in a big alliance, you have loads of support from your corp and money really isnt an issue, and you really don;t do anything much in eve that isnt a corp op or pvp.
so you either get to travel safely in your alliance space, or you use a cheap inty set up to go pvp which is extremely safe way to travel.
What you suggest is great on paper but in real life it is actually silly.
uhm ... seems i formulated it not well enough ... the carebears i suppose to break a gateamp AREN'T the traders who have their homebase 20jumps away on the other side of empire ... i meant those carebears who live in the certain area.
and if people think they got scammend when they work together to chase away the pirates of their neighbourhood then i can only say - it's become a sad place.
hmm .. btw - if no shot is fired, because the pirates are running like rabbits - does the fitting matter??
P.S.: you're right - i'm in a 0.0 alliance and i fly mainly interceptors, but not because they are cheap, more because they are fun. and specialization 4tw!! if you're a newbie (i can't fly anything else ) ___________________

No. Why? You "control" your little alliance's spot of 0.0 space. There is no chance at all that I am going to survive even a few minutes coming into "your" space.
So why should you be able to pass freely and peacefully from space your alliance controls to space where I live, where nothing bad can happen to you? You want to mine high-end ore and do high-end ratting protected by your alliance, then you want to bring your stuff out to Empire where there are many, many, many customers to buy it. You want access to your customers to be completely safe and clear--and risk-free.
I don't have hundreds of millions of ISK to pay for battleships and T2 junk because I don't have access to 0.0 space--and that's fine by me. I don't want to take the risks it would require to get that rich. More to the point, there's not an alliance I've encountered that I want to be a part of. The jerk quotient in Eve is very high.
But if somebody is living in 0.0 in the protective embrace of an alliance, and running to Empire to buy or sell stuff, it seems to me he's not taking any risks either--but getting very wealthy all the while.
uhm .. lol?
it's only a old wives' tale that you instantly die if you enter 0.0 and/or claimed terretory. if you know what you're doing (this means also - don't jump into a chokepoint system without a look at the map and without a scout if you're in anything big) you can survive quite easily.
hell .. i even remember one guy in vale of the silent - a newbie, not even 2 month old - flying 10jumps into 0.0 with a bestower and mining crokite. he was afaik in an npc corp and got killed everytime someone found him. when i talked to him he told me he gets killed sometimes ... but at all he made more money than doing empire stuff.
and btw - no one holds you back that you jump into 0.0 with a gang of people in pvp fitting to kill the local residents. it isn't written in stone that non-residents have to be the victim on a killmail.
and no risk?? i lol'ed ... if you're in 0.0 (especially in deep 0.0) you have the following things to keep in mind if you want to bring a hauler to a tradehub. raiding ganksquads of hostile alliances which come from their homeregions, raiding ganksquads of pirates which start from npc stations, raiding ganksquads which come from empire space, gatecamps in lowsec, suicide ganker in jita, war opponents in empire.
if it is soooo riskfree to travel in 0.0 (especially if it's "terretory" of your own alliance) why do i remember from my time in G and D¦ the freighter runs to empire where we had 2+ freighters escorted by 20+ ships??
and the thought that you're 100% safe in your alliance terretory is one of the main reasons why people get ganked. 0.0 isn't instant death - but if you don't watch your back you'll end quite fast back in the clone bay. ___________________

For me its the corporations, which is against any gatecamping piracy, that have HQ in a constellation should be the ones that clear out any gatecamps in their area.
If any local wants to participate in breaking up the gatecamp, let them. Even though if they are not in the same alliance/corporation.
I know that any gatecamp is going to be busted, in the space I fly in. I have faith in the pilots I fly with and I know I fly together with highly skilled pilots.

I would be afraid to mess with any of this stuff.
What I like about this game is that its so open ended that you dont know what is going to happen next!
Gate camps and stealthing pirates! Its good fun!

As someone who refuses to play a game without pvp, I have to say I'm really amused by all the "hardcore" pvp people defending gate camping and declaring anyone who disagrees a "carebear". These are the same people that warp away and log the instant they have a real fight. As far as defending territory, the current system unfortunately makes this the best strategy. That doesn't mean the system is ideal or that it couldn't be changed to offer other ways to defend.
I think the problem really is that most travel in eve involves warping from one point to the next. Since you can't fight in warp that only leaves a few fight spots available. Untouchable travel mode is really the problem.
I'm just hoping that the devs figure out more ways to offer some better pvp in upcoming patches. Staring at a gate for hours and blob fighting are as boring if not more so than mining. It seems rare that you actually get close fights that are fun. |
