Wow... 24.2 MB to "remove" code?
As well as removing agent missions (which need practically no code in the client anyway), it's replacing a lot of code with the new unicode supporting code. I would expect the majority of the patch size is made up of that replacement code. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Unicode is 16 bits instead of 8 too, so every character takes up twice the space. But the advantages is that it can represent every language on earth. :)

Edited by: Sevarus James on 18/08/2006 13:28:42 WIN ME was the first time I had EVER downgraded a machine...to win98 2nd edition. I was in stunned amazement at how that could have EVER been released. Up until that point windows had been getting better and better. winME was a shocker all right. ----- ------------

Because it requires replacing the affected files. The new ones will be smaller than the originals, if nothing has been added to them... www.mivex.nl/test/sig.Richard%20Bashir.gif |

I know it was due to happen, phasing out the older OS. I have 4 computers and 2 of them are win98Se. By stating that this OS will no longer be supported does this mean that on the 22nd this OS will no longer be able to play eve or that you will just not support 98SE if users encounter problems? If it will no longer be usable it would have been nice to get a little warning before hand. Many people have multiple accounts and are often run on older secondary computers. 5 days notice is a little abrupt don't you think if it will no longer be usable?

So does this mean we continue to use the existing client on TQ, with just a patch.. or will we start using the Unicode client?

At least its in the news now. But I agree 5 days is too short for people to prepare, specially if they havent upgraded in 6 years. =) Oh well, it had to be done sometime, might as well be before Kali.

I don't think it will solve the BM "problem" right away It will hopefully soon(tm) be that we do not need any stargate to stargate bookmarks anymore and the 100 MILLION+++ Bookmarks in game will vanish and the overall lag in game will diminish greatly

So the 8/22 date for us who DID upgrade to other solutions..........means a seriously long skill train.
Of course Kieron hinted so smugly after E3 that we linux and mac types would have good news coming...........I can't imagine that THIS is what he was referring to? -sigh.
That was actually me that hinted at it, not kieron, and it's still true. Transgaming got a code drop of dragon from us recently so work has already started, but we haven't started an official relationship yet.

Actually there's more to it than that (for starters Unicode isn't just 16 bits) but I think people will scream for their mothers if I explain it any further :) -- (Battle hardened miner)

Thanks Oveur ! Glad to see the announcement was not all fluff ... working with Transgaming can only profit you and them (Eve on linux = more Eve players and more Cedega customers)

lol. Maybe 10% will upgrade at once. MAYBE. And over a third of those, per previous windows versions, will regret it.

I got ready to answer some of the questions and Oveur beat me to them. Sheesh, the nerve of that guy! Oh, wait, he's my boss.....
On a more serious note, the Dev team is looking forward to this deployment. The code changes will make a big difference in future efforts to support EVE.

"Many missions have been retired as they use code that is now obsolete. This includes almost all the courier missions."
Were updated versions of the courier missions added in the last patch, which were identical to the existing versions so we couldnĘt notice when getting the new version? Or are there only going to be two or three courier missions handed out now?

If there's one thing this game is lacking, it's fun, interactive PvE. I hope these new missions help bring that to life.
Good luck on the 22nd, and may God have mercy and let you get this patch deployed and the servers stabilized before the angry mob manages to break down the door. ___________________________ |

So will manufacturing agents, who currently give almost exclusively courier missions, start wanting me to kill stuff, or am I just going to get the same one or two missions over and over again?
