Originally by: Xeios While technically you are right, for pure mining figures using 3 barges as it is now, would be no different then using 3 after the compression skill are added. However the difference comes purely and simply from hauling time. atm he would have to dock all 3 barges roughly every 2.5 cycles, with compression he would have to dock after 20ish cycles. That would make a huge difference in terms of ore mined over a period of time.
And again we come back to:
No one in their right mind is mining until their hold is full and then docking over and over, at the very least, no one is doing that by the time they are a high end miner. The extraordinarily common means of mining is to “jet-can mine” like most people do, and either have a constant hauler, or haul when your session is done. Either way, it’s very clearly defined as exploiting a mechanic the developers never intended to put into the game, but that’s beside the point. No matter whether the ore is in your hangar or the hangar of a hauler, the production has not changed in anyway.
To say you could use more miners with such a change is erroneous, because you can use more miners as it is, not one thing would change in capability of production because the identical potential is there with or without ore compression. It grates on me that the idea that miners could actually contain what they mine is some how considered overpowered, when it would effect production in absolutely no way, and it is the developers that have set the production capability of mining ships as they are now, so if something is indeed too powerful, it is with the production, not the containment of what is produced.
Oddly, so many support mobile refineries, which would obviously process ore into mineral, thus cutting the volume down to a miniscule fraction of its former size in ore, which is nothing more than compression by another name. But to allow miners to haul ore itself from the belt to base is somehow overpowered? If anything, refining in the belt is asking for a compression rate of the mined ore/ice higher than anything I’ve suggested. While personally I don’t want a mobile refinery, I am also not adamantly opposed to them being in the game so long as they aren’t put in at the expense of developing far more beneficial and useful alternatives.
you are quite stupid my friend...
what he is saying, 3 person mining op, 2 mining 1 hauling, ok great, jet-can mining, hauler takes it away, now you take the compression skill, and instead of allowing the 3rd guy to have to haul because the barges can now hold their ore instead of having to jet it an have it hauled away, you allow the 3rd guy to be in a barge and ever hour 1/2 or whatever he said, the barges dock themselves, and drop the ore, this elimates the need for a hauler, thus now you put the 3rd man that was in the hauler into another barge and you have 3 barges mining, doing the same job 2 barges and a hauler were before...
I hope that is simple enough for you
