Was intrigued by the news that CCP is tinkering with directX10, Which only works works Windows Vista, so I and I guess lots of other people won't this junk for several years.
Now, what about a rewrite on the sound engine ? Its performance is pretty craptastic, even with highend soundcards that offset lots of soundstream mixing load from the processor the performance is abysmal when the game tries to mix multiple soundeffects.

The DX9 engine will be upgraded, plenty of information available in the dev blogs.

Aside from the graphics issue, the OP makes a very good point about eve's sound engine. Its pretty darn poor and is in dire need of an upgrade, the sheer number of crash threads in which the fix is found in disabling the sound should prove the point. --------------

Sound engine or something in it is the only thing that produces a warning in the log server.
Started the log server plus new workspace and such, then I started eve and went to "strip mine" with an osprey for an hour or so.
The only warning I got in the whole hour was about a "warpexpl.wav" (or similar named) that could not be found...and this warning was regular.
(Don't have the log at the computer I'm currently, however I'll try and find it as soon as I get back to my own - meanwhile anyone else interested can go jet can mining in high sec while running the log server and see if he finds a similar thing in his logs.) ******************** Those without a tribe can only keep their word.

Checking the Dev blog reminded me that EvE is implementing ingame voicechat. Will be a great success if they stream the output over the eve sound subsystem
Outputting it directly to windows might save it.
