I only hope for England it's like the Rugby World Cup was - we peaked the autumn before, played rubbish throughout the tournament but still won it. The only problem is England FC don't have Johhny Wilkinson .

Sure he did goal, but not so thx to his skill or anything, but just because Beckham managed to hit his head with great pass. Anybody's head would do the job there, hell, I am sure if I was standing there it would be goal anyway.
Crouch is so clumsy he makes offensive foul 90% of times ball comes close to him.
At least Owen is trying to be creative.
I don't think you can argue that Crouch is rubbish - his distribution is excellent and he's scored a hatful of goals for England recently. Owen needs a full season in the Premier**** to get back his sharpness. He looks distinctly average at the moment. With any luck Roonaldo coming back will enable us to play "one in the hole", which will help Owen enormously. But if I had to choose, I'd bench Owen and keep Crouch in there. I'd also play a holding midfielder and bench lampard too.

Pssst... When he fails to send a player off after giving him 2 yellows, and then gives him a THIRD, it IS his fault...
Don't be soft. Graham Pole is AN ABSOLUTE BLOODY HERO in my house. It wouldn't be football if it didn't include a complete*****-up by an Englishmen or two. You wait until Sunday, there's more to come. Think about it, we need something to fill the time on our "FOOTBALL xxxxyyyzzzz FROM HELL" dvds.
No honestly, it's Grahams birthday today. Send him 3 cards to celebrate ;).

Well this is looking good for England. Portugal are without two players (Ronaldo will probably be okay) from red cards and half the team are on yellows and won't want to miss the next game!
COME ON ENGLAND!
Argentina don't look so hot now they are out of the group games, so my tip is for Germany to win the cup. They are the only team I've seen who look like winners. My tip: England/Germany final (haha!).

It wasn't the ref who knocked people over, tackled from behind, headbutted, got into a brawl, showed dissent to officials, or wasted time illegally by refusing to hand the ball over.
It wasn't the ref who caused all those cards to be handed out.
Totally agree with you. Both teams played dirty and paid the price in cards. I can't think of a single card that wasn't given entirely on merit.
Portugal were basically cheating for half the game which is sad for their fans, who are a great bunch and don't deserve to be represented by such a shower. I watched two games at Euro 2004 with the Portugese and they were awesome.
Figo should be given a ban for his headbutt, which the ref missed.

I'm still betting on the German Alpha Strike taking down the Argentina Dread. Germany to win on Penalties. They will have 12 men after all (including the crowd).
England to beat portugal in 90 minutes. About ******* time too!

Jerry deserved that win. Argentina were very negative after they scored. Now we just want France to beat Brazil and the cup will be in Yerp for teh next 4 years, where it belongs.

Germany vs Italy in the semi-final.
My money's on Germany, a second consecutive final, but this time no-one can say they had an easy route there.
I can't think of a team left that will beat Germany to be honest. I've said that since the Sweden game. They have explosives up their bottoms at the moment and you have to go back to 1982 to find a German who has missed a penalty, so that route is out for the opposition.
COME ON ENGLAND

Aaaaaahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahaaaaaa. Poor poor Ronaldo. I'm gutted for him. .
I've honestly never seen so many Dives and attempts to cheat/con the ref in a world cup match since.... the last time Portugal played. They did not deserve to go to the final. Awesome result France - Portugal are the new Italy when it comes to cheating and diving. Italy are the new Brazil with their skillfull play. Who would have thought it?
Does anyone else think that Riberry is the find of the tournament? I'd never heard of him before, but he is an absolute top player.

I think the last month has passed Ronaldo completely by, here are some quotes from bbc.co.uk:
Quote: "We played well and did our best but the referee didn't help us," the Manchester United player said.
No ****!
Quote: "Everyone who saw the match could see that the referee wasn't fair."
Everyone on the pitch in a Portugese shirt?
Quote: "He should have shown yellow cards but he did not because Portugal is a small country."
Yes, he should have shown Portugal a few for diving! It's clear that the Portugese had a strategy for trying to gain advantage from the referee via. play acting and diving, the culmination of which was the Holland game, with 16 cards and 4 players sent off. I thought the referee last night was spot on. Thank god we don't have Scolari as the England manager.

Originally by: Semblence Yeah was wondering about Italy, but I think there are a lot less foreign players in their league.
I'd probably still consider them international underachievers though...
...No wins for any of the 3 in 20 years - coincidentally, when all 3 leagues started to go money-crazy. (but for different reasons).
Okay, let's consider only teams which "should" be winning the World Cup regularly. Brazil, Argentina, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, and England.
That's seven teams. There's only 5 world cups in 20 years. How the hell do you expect none of them to "underachieve" by this mark?
The European Cup is in some respects just as important to European teams as the world cup is at least in they eyes of the fans, so change those countries to Spain, France, Germany, Italy and England and change the every 4 years to every 2 - now we can talk about under-achievement. In twenty years there will be 10 cups handed out.
