Ok, here's my impressions on the art updates.
Tristan - Awesome model, but why the 4th inaccessible turret mount? Any plans on switching the Ishkur to the Tristan hull? Would make sense, with the drone bonus.
Asteroids - at first, i thought the Scordite looks awful, but then, when illuminated at a proper angle, you can see the green mineral veins inside it - its really nice. The Hemorphite and Ochre however are really messed up in the crystalline areas - the texture appears glitchy, the edges of the crystal area are heavily pixelated... in stark contrast to the Jaspet, which is beautifull with its metallic shine.
Also, when are you going to fix the misaligned texture on the Tempest's bridge? https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4259327 - more suff in the Zero.Zero collection |

This is how the new Tristan makes me feel. Not that it isn't a good model, it's just not my Tristan anymore. The Tristan, because of it's original model, is one of my favorite ships. So was the Stabber. So was the Scorpion. I am absolutely dreading what is bound to happen to my VERY FAVORITE ship design, the Moa. Are these models now lost forever?
I'm begging the art developers to paint these ship revamps with a much more subtle brushstroke, like they did with the Raven. Or for the game developers somehow retain some of the older models by revamping only the tech II variants.
I don't know, I just don't see the same eye for subtlety that the original artists had. |

Contains some further ships, which are ... not in the market Wasn't there something about that at FF '12? Are you original T'Amber or are those faction paint jobs really going in? Don't know. I just stared into the Magic Crystal Ball (i.e. itemIDs) and found those. The Custom variations of standard Frigates, Cruisers, Battleships and Industrials also have their Blueprints in the data. And those only require the standard T1 ship to be built. Whiptail, Chameleon, Comet PPV , Prospect and the variations of existing ORE ships also have blueprint items. But those lack a Bill of Materials. CCP Sledgehamer hinted more features to be disclosed soon. Waiting for them should prove to be the best choice. Until then we at least have some nice pictures ship models to look at - maybe not as much when you hate gray and teal
must have something to do with EVE: Source or Fanfest 2014......it should be the most logical theory, those custom variants mean more special (and by that extent unobtainable) edition ships....... |

Did anyone else notice the little XII on the Chameleon and Whiptail next to the Gurista logo...?
AT prizes.
I mean... Last tournament's prizes were a 'T2' dram and Ixion. Something tells me that the Whiptail is essentially going to be everything that made the Crow horrifying with less downsides than the immediate post Rubicon crow even had. The nature of the Chameleon escapes me, but it's visage being that of the Blackbird makes me think some sort of unholy ECM/direct combat hybrid. |

Oh, you've animated the Tristan! Its so awesome (tho absolutely illogical) - i can warp around all day and watch it retract and raise the top panels! Do the same for the crucifier/sentinel, i know you've been working on the animation for quite some time - its really cool! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4259327 - more suff in the Zero.Zero collection |

Most of the ships are fine, but some may have problems: Guardian looks very dark (especially in comparison with any other Sarum ship) Capsule looks darker than before and Golden capsule is just broken. Reflections on Manticore, Buzzard. Falcon are unpleasant IMO (maybe not related to this update but still). Also I have noticed that all Jove ships were removed from client. Is this a build system bug or it was done intentionally (but typeID records are intact)? Those are gone forever? ps: really nice job with Tristan!

Wait what? They removed the Jove ships? Aww come one, I liked being able to look at them from time to time. I know they aren't exactly being used alot or anything but they are still a part of EVE's history. Would be a real shame to see them lost.
As for the other updates, looking good.

I had put this on the reddit thread the other day (The New Tristan!: http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/1z08bw/the_new_tristan/ )
I've been telling people this for years, and with the new Marauder foldy-bits, it seems like prime time for it:
[GÇô]Samwellikki 3 points 8 days ago Still needs to fold down at high speed (warp, AB and MWD) and then unfold when engaging enemies. Perhaps stay folded in combat with propulsion boost of AB or MWD. Sort of like folding wings on a fighter jet. Unless it does that and pics don't do it justice?
Would be an awesome change. However, no one would fly any other frigate (>_<) |

The new color looks pretty nice on the ships, but i have to say, I don't like the new Station interiors. Honestly, even in the latest patch it still just looks like the hangers have been filled with dark grey smoke, and the atmosphere in general seems a lot dimmer. I don't know if theres less reflections due to the new engine changing the reflection from the ceiling lights, or if the lights position were changed, or if it's just more foggy, but i think it would look a lot better if it was made even less foggy and maybe a bit brighter.

Sorry to be negative, but I'm sure that knowing what doesn't work is more interesting than knowing what does :D
- The Pilgrim looks awful. All the golden has dissapeared for a dull brown.
- Kaalakiota Caldari ship's red (with a slight touch of desaturation) strikes looks red-orange now. :(
- Ishukone ships golden is well rendered, but the black has been darkened, making the contrast way too high. It was already quite ugly this whole golden/black thing but now clearly the black is.. too dark :D Take a look at the eagle for instance. (The Rhea looks awesome though)

i dont think that the ships are too dark, its more like i always thought they were too bright lol
but that was (mostly) because of the sunlights, its not THAT drama, but sometimes it sucks a bit, that you are behind a planet, hidden in the infinite darkness of space and your ship is still shining because its got hit by sunrays ^^
and because of some of that small lighting"problems" i really look forward how your lightingprojects are developing further.
when i remember on eve-¦s beginning, and i see it now.. thats an amazing work you-¦ve done. i bet you could tell some noob, that this game was released last year :DD
i think that you ladies and gentlemen will make a good job on that project, for sure.
and p.s. pleeeeeease "v3" the suns.. theyre still ugly.. even galileo had a better view of the sun a.d. :DD I hope you understand my kauderwelsch

I have no idea what any of this is about, but I do understand that things will be more pretty and I am all in favor of that!
One of the reasons that I've quit other games was that the graphics didn't keep up with the times so I'd feel turned off when returning after playing a single player game. That doesn't happen with EVE! Keep it up! |

The fog was fine as it was before the 1.3, most people get performance issues like from the fog layers in mission and other sites that causes massive performance issues, so I hope they return it to the smoothness state it was before. I was getting over 60 FPS before, after downtime, under 30 FPS in all stations. |

Most ships in EVE have only been retrofitted for capsules, they weren't designed for them. Pretty much all ships are supposed to be used by normal people aswell.

overall i really like the changes. However there are still big differences in visual quality between old and new models. The lighting on the sentinel looks really good (makes it look like its build out of weapon steel), if you take a look at old ships like coercer or comet they look very oily and less realistic in comparison. eve style bounties (done) dust boarding parties imagine there is war and everybody cloaks - join FW |

Unsurprisingly, the asteroids now look like black blobs hovering in black space when using low detail, low shader quality, no shadows. Or rather, Veldspar and Scordite are black blobs (with some patches of darkness to break up the black), the plagioclase looks like finger potatoes.
If I bump up the shader quality to medium, Scordite and Veldspar turn into really-dark-grey blobs hanging out in space, even on the "sunlit" side. Thankfully I have the tactical overlay to provide a pale surface against which to discern the asteroids, otherwise I wouldn't be able to see them. If I turn the shader quality up to medium, my computers fans start up. If I turn the shader quality to high, EVE won't run smoothly because of the number of clients I have open.
I'm guessing team TriLambda has shares in nVidia, right? "Low shader quality? No graphics for you!"

You're forgetting that these aren't just capsuleer ships. The versions we purchase are modified versions to support our capsule technology (at a much higher cost) but can be crewed normally, if necessary. Depending where you're from in New Eden will depend on how you crew your starships, however the larger they come the more crew the ship will require.
As I am Caldari, I prefer to employ crews on my many starships. You'll never find unemployed orphan citizens in the State!
Here's an EVElopedia article regarding crews, if anyone's interested: https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/New_Eden_crew_guidelines

Debating whether the new "linear" lighting model improves visuals.
I dont know.
Yes, the ship skins look a bit darker, and while more detail is supposed to be visible, I just dont see it.
If anything, it all looks like flat paint jobs.
The stations look bad too.
I dont have HDR turned on, dont know if it will make a difference but so far I just dont see any visual improvement.

btw out of interest. what do you mean by linear lighting model? It can't mean phong shading since the old model was already looked like it had linear interpolation for the surface normals. eve style bounties (done) dust boarding parties imagine there is war and everybody cloaks - join FW |

this is all I could find with my limited understanding of the subject:
Linear - For a given point at a distance x from the light source, the light intensity received is proportional to 1/x.
I dont know what shading model EVE was using before. Minimizing the cost of replacing implants.

Love the new more logical linear light system (parts of ships are dark where they should be dark, etc). But, I find the new Creodrone and ORE ships (Orca, Rorqual) are far too baby blue for my liking. The Creodrone ships especially used to be a menacing, dark, black-green. Now they are light blue. |

I like the lighter colors on ships with this update, they look better and I can really tell there was a change, they look great.
However, the darker areas of some ships look a bit too dark, some details on the darker areas that were there before are so dark they seem washed out/don't exist no more because it's too dark. Checked on two computers before posting. I am glad this is only a first pass and imagine that some of that darkness will be cleared up on future changes. |
