I don't think it's what the OP intended and certainly isn't what Kenrailae ranting for but I have no problem with them adding an additional field after the name that could show a title (or callsign or whatever you want to call it) as long as there is the option in the UI to switch it off. If it's not replacing the name as it's displayed to other people (ie the character's actual name is still displayed) and the player has the option to not show the added titles that would be fine.
That way, those who want to designate themselves a callsign could and those that don't want to see it (ie fleets, me and everyone else who considers it unnecessary and potentially confusing info) could chose not to see it. It wouldn't have any real negative impact to the game.
Most sensible suggestion I've heard so far on the subject. +1 |

Like I said.... you can't stop yourself. Otherwise these little bits wouldn't be a necessary thing for you. :)

Who is more trollish, the troll or the one who is trolled? Write up your proposal, get on your own soapbox. A hijacked thread doesn't get the feedback it should, because its off topic.
The people trolling here must be pretty good, the bait is taken every time. Get some Eve. Make it yours.

obviously, you are looking for nod alongs, as youve taken quite the effort to point out anyone disagreeing with you just A) Is a troll B) Doesnt know what they are talking about C) Have a less valid opinion about whats good for EVE than you D) Is just stuck in their ways E) Is completely irrational because there is no other way someone could possibly be disagreeing with your idea
As far as this forum is concerned, we ARE the general population, if a court holds a vote, and only 2 people out of the 300 in town show up to determine whether or not the town is demolished for a strip mine, and the only 2 who bother to show up vote in favor, guess what happens? (okay, maybe a little specific, watched the movie 3 times this week, and before you say anything, **** like this IS an issue in a lot of smaller towns even today, have several friends who were "bought out" and given a notice of eviction to make room for a factory they had never even heard about before then) |

indeed. what is the point?
why must the bad guys know u by ur callsign/nickname/title or whatever? they are just calling targets. Or, if they know u enough, they can see ur titles whenever they show info on u.
i'd still say titles cover everything that is wanted by all. I think that the character can't be allowed to change it more than once a month, for example. Out of Curiosity, why that time restriction? JC's are less than 24 hours these days, war cool downs are 24 hours after week long dec's, POS timers are roughly a day and 17hrs. Why a month?
It's just a time long enough for GMs being able to spot abuses, like offensive callsigns or personification attempts. Since this is a secondary identifier I see no reason for someone to change it too often, so this shouldn't be a problem. |

Having the callsign (or whatever you want to call it) visible at the choice of the viewer allows a group who wish to use callsigns to communicate instead of names to do that. It also allows those who don't want to use them not to. The choice being with the viewer, the issue of impersonation (which I believe is against CCP rules) is pretty much gone along with most other issues I can think of.
I'm not pro secondary names or changing names at all. Just if they were to add it I think this might not be too bad. |

Right, first of, the OP has the right to post an idea to discuss and has the right to expect a civil and healthy discussion as a result. You don't have to agree, but post your arguments in a civil manner please. This goes both ways by the way.
That said, I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay. Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!
The rules: 3. Ranting is prohibited.
A rant is a post that is often filled with angry and counterproductive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and is helpful in development of the game and community. Rants are disruptive, and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise and clear manner while avoiding going off on rambling tangents.
4. Personal attacks are prohibited.
Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.
5. Trolling is prohibited.
Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.
26. Off-topic posting is prohibited.
Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued.
