I purchased EVE off steam, and love the game, I hate dealing with Steam downtime (like right now). Is there anything I can do to move my account to a non-Steam account? |

Up, now, but it seems to be down one a week at the times I play. I would prefer to just not have to deal with it. |

can you not launch the game from the game folder?
check your program files (x86) > Steam > Steamapps or something like that, perhaps your account name for steam, but in there is the game exe which I imagine you can run without connecting through steam
give it a shot
otherwise just download the standalone launcher and use the same account information... cant be that hard

As far as i know there is no "easy" way to move it off Steam.
However, you can buy a regular account trough CCP, then pay to have your Steam character moved over to your none Steam EVE account. At least i cant see any reason to why this wouldent work but someone please correct me if im wrong here.
If there are other ways, i dont know about them sorry, but hopefully you can get some answers here and if not you can try the steam forums and possible Issues, Workarounds & Localization. Phoibe Enterprises official recruitment thread The Eve Reader - -áAudio Recordings of Eve Chronicles

Open up a ticket with CCP and ask - probably your fastest and best way to get a clear answer.
I don't use steam so i dont really know how they tie accounts/games and such together.
But a CCP GM should be able to help you.

Just trace down the steam install folder for applications and run the game directly from the EVE install folder. There is no need to run under Steam, but you can still let Steam maintain it for you. I've run it this way for years. CCP Punkturis-á "I want to get in on the goodposter circle jerk!"

Unfortunately you're not able to move an account off of steam, as your account uses your steam credentials to verify your identity with us before letting you log in
The only way you can do this I suppose, is to create a new account via our website, then transfer your character from the Steam account to the new one that isn't linked to your Steam credentials.

Why didn't you keep the old method with Steam providing CD keys? (Just like they do for every other MMO)
Of all game companies out there, I'm surprised to see CCP being one of the first to adopt a DRM-like system for this type of use. (That not to avoid piracy, just the non-use of steam) Signature Tanking - Best Tanking. |

If there are other ways, i dont know about them sorry, but hopefully you can get some answers here and if not you can try the steam forums and possible Issues, Workarounds & Localization. yes, you can, since you do create an eve online account after purchasing with steam, you can just delete the game from steam, install it from the regular installer and login "normally" (I.E. without steam).
it can be long depending on your connection, but it's not hard per say
edit: just saw CCP's answer, that's weird, it was possible earlier like a few month ago, something changed??? |

I don't think you need steam to be online do start the eve client.
Just launch it from your steam apps folder. Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Agreed. Steam is for the older games you can't find anymore. Like X-Com. |

Steam is pretty much malware in that it can interfere with the normal functioning of your computer, they have an annoying anti-cheat system residing in your system permanantly using its resources, and they have the right to prevent you from playing any of the games which you purchased if your account is disabled for any reason they deem.
You could potentially lose access to all your games if they decided you did something wrong. They also have an EULA which basically says "we don't sell private information we collect" but also "we may change this EULA whenever we like".
I'd just pay to get have the character transferred if I was you. Not sure if you can do a buddy invite for an extra month to make up for some of the cost of the transfer... |
