I only have a few windows apps that I cannot run in linux atm, and all of them should be possible to run with wine, except EVE. This means that if EVE starts working in linux, I can switch to linux 100%
(just gonna have to get rid of my microsoft keyboard and mouse )
I hope it will work soon, I don't want windows anymore..
Might be better to use sdl instead of dx, at least it's possible to run in both linux and windows then, but I don't think many game creators use it...

Why do you bring the hardware in to defend an OS? Crappy hardware will make any OS crash, the interesting is what OS runs stable on stable hardware.

Vote for EVE support, started a new vote request
There is one thing I don't understand here. Why separate it into 2 votes, EVE the second genesis and EVE cold war (and now EVE rmr), when they could just have 1 vote for EVE Online, since the last part of it changes every now and then...
I will keep an eye on this thread, and when EVE seems to be stable enough with cedega I'll buy it and delete my windows partition. Or, if we're lucky, maybe wine will be able to get their directx support working good enough.

Afaik that problem exists on some windows computers aswell (I take it that you have an ati card?). It might be a good idea to try upgrading the drivers, I think they are the reason for that problem...

Originally by: Bob Biac hmmm i know about x86 compiles... but i get a ton of errors with 64 bit linux... oh well its a 32 bit life for me :*(
I know it's possible, I can compile and run wine with amd64/gentoo no problems. I don't really know anything about debian 64 or what your problem might be though unfortunately... _____________________________________ <insert something witty of your choice here> |

Anyone tried EVE with wine 0.9.8 yet, and if so did it work? (I had some problems with the compilation so I haven't been able to try it out myself yet.)
I don't think it'll work, as apparently someone tried the CVS version yesterday, but still worth giving it a shot. _____________________________________ meep meep |

Anybody else having issues with wine not recognizing ALSA as being on the system?
I've wiped wine off the box (completely, including the home .wine ) installed and de-installed, saw NO errorss in .configure or make install, but when running winecfg, ONLY OSS shows up.
.9.36 had NO ISSUES detecting alsa and setting it up. Is this something distro specific, or?????
(Ubuntu 7.04 here.)
I had that problem when I was running Debian. regedit didn't work either (it crashed when creating new keys etc and I couldn't rename them).

The cause for the crash issue has actually been figured out, see this thread for more info : Linkage
