You know its difficult to test on the test server when our characters aren't updated or trained uptil recently.
My idea is to allow us to train skills on the test server without having to put the time in.
Basically would it be possible to add special skill books that would set a skill to a specific value.
Example: I get a 'Gunnery - 5' book from the hangar and train it...now I have Gunnery to 5.
Or I get the 'Amarr Battleship - 3' skillbook so I can test if there's a difference between having a skill of 2 and 3.
ALOT of these problems with skills can be found by us if you added these special skill books ONLY on the test server...heck add them to the script that setups the Fight club corporation hangar.
I really do appreciate you guys setting up the the Fight club corp on the test server. We're able to test all the modules in the game very easily.
PS: Please make these special-test-server-only skill books trainable in space. Would be great to shoot a couple of times, then change my skill level while in space to see and document the differences.

... I'd like the ability to set the skills, factions and corporation standings at any arbitrary level, through right-click command or configuration window maybe... meaning i could also degrade my skills at any moment.
The problem with having to train skills is, once you have them trained there's no way to 'forget' them, and i think it'd be useful to be able to check how different weapons and other modules work when operated by both low-level and high-level players, how change of the level influences the modules etc.

Hmm. Dont like that idea. It would take away some of the fun of reaching some of the harder skills on tranq, if you already have a uber char that has them all on the test server...

Dude...its ONLY on Chaos. Chaos is a TEST server - it has NOTHING to do with the active game server (Tranquility).
The idea is to TEST skills at various levels and see how modules/combat/etc. is affected.
Would be nice to set a skill at an arbitrary level to see how if affects you ingame.
You understand Quiz???

I like the idea, in fact I was going to recommend that the Dev's do just that. This change would take some time to implement / code though I would think. Still the same I think its a great way to be able to test thoroughly.

... Simple solution would be then not to use this optional Chaos feature. Following your line of reasoning, i'd have to say it's bad idea to give the testers access to all rare modules -- after all, 'tis takes away some of the fun of acquiring them on tranquility if you have them on Chaos for free, non?..
(ftr, i use only the stock stuff for tests... not necessarily due to fun factor, but rather since it's going to be most common gear in game, i think it should be tested the most....)

If you found out that a skill did not give a bonus on Chaos training it from level 2 to 3...would you train it on Tranquility???
Heck I would set my 'Missles - 1' so I could test the differences between the different levels...and the appropriate bonuses...etc...
That's the point.

well look at it this way... we are ther to test it for free to ccp
also they would have to hav taken away all the items etc... really you cant test stuff if you dont get the items and skills etc...
the ONLY way to do it.. is speical or RANDOM offers to get ACCOUNTS on TEST... just like other GAMES have some kind of system or like for BETA testing...
in effect you are BETA TESTING the NEW CHANGES patchs...
that way those who test cant really talk about the uber gear skills etc.... to the public
sure they might get away for saying few things to there friends or corp BUT not public support Idea: QuickInfo an alternative to ShowInfo

a simple solution could be to allow people to degrade only any skill they have. eg. if u have gunnery lvl5 u can set it down to lvl4,3,2,1,0 which should disable any dependent skills, like trajectory analysis, turret skills etc.

In the last day of beta, they magically gave everyone all skills at lvl 5. Since they clain they can't update chaos, this seems like they way to go so people can properly test things. I and many others no longer go to chaos simply cause we can't test the things that are being changed.
... you will see more and more marketing which in turn will bring you more players to torture. |

the GM's/Devs who work on chaos testing things certainly have the power to raise or lower skills, I dont know if the bughunter crew does but its possible they do to, so if you think you've tracked down a bug and are trying to test it, do as they say in the read before playing on chaos thread and pop into the Chaos Irc channel and see if one can help you out :) . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Great idea Zyrla, might as well as a GM to change a skill level for me on Chaos.
