IMHO you know you're a veteran Eve player when you say something starting "I remember back when we had..." [multiple MWDs, Concord agents, bribable agents, skill points for fitting modules or undocking, BS pwning frigates at any range, Sarum Prime as a gankzone...) and somebody else says "Huh?"...
And for today's non-vets, just think someday there'll come a day when you can say "I remember back when we could fly 8 heavy drones from a Thorax" - and that generation of n00bs won't believe you, they won't...

IMHO, if you know the strenghts and weaknesses of every ships/modules ingame, the names of most named modules and NPCs, if you know how the game's mechanics work and how to use them at your advantage, and if you have at least some experience as a pvper, then you're a Vet.
A veteran is in essence someone that has nothing more to learn (or very little, in some highly specialized areas), the time you take learning it, be it 6 months or 3 years, has little to do with it.

Veteran, hmm i'd say you calculate how many hours you've put in the game.. some people may have had an account since beta but don't do much and others that have had their account since late '03 or early '04 and have played many many more hours.
I'd like to note that if you've played 4hours a day, 365days a year for two + years... can you calculate how many hours that is? how many days? weeks? of continuous playing :)

Dont listen to those Beta elitists. Most quit and then came back around Castor.
Not me. Beta 4 then 12/MAY/2003, It was the time that took the game order to reach Portugal by post... Otherwise i would have hit live on the first minuts.

Generally with any mmorpg
0-3 months - Noob 3-6 months - Rookie 6-12 months - Average player 12-24 months - Good player 24+ months - veteran 48+ months - legend.
That's my personal opinion. There will be legends, but they will be few and far between. 4 years is a long time to invest in a game through all its changes and manipulations. I dare say in another 18 months the game will be substantially different enough to make noobs out of the most seasoned players. __ No corp - Taking it easy for a bit |

Thats plain and simple bull****, after each patch even the most experienced player has to adopt to the recent changes, has to learn about the new ships, modules etc.
U know who a REAL vet is? Some1 who doesnt post in such a supid thread!

Personally, I think you can call anyone who's played for over a year a "Vet". "Elder" (or somesuch) would be the term I'd apply to the people who've been playing since launch. -Wrayeth

I was here during beta. I came back with castor. I'm still a noob. Others play for 6 months and kick my ass. Thats eve --- All my statements are my personal opinion. I am not speaking on behalf of any entity, corp or alliance in this forums. |

does it actually matters if you're vet or not?
vets die as easy as noobs do, vet's just don't scream while dying

I played in beta 6, and created my account as soon i could, in may 2003 and been playing more or less ever since.
So, yes i think i am a "vet", but that does¦nt meen i know everything about the game, and i still get killed by players who are less experienced as i am, which is one of the great things about this game.

Hahahaha. Funny.
Ego is not bad unless you overdo it And actually when you have played for 48+ months or more you should get some respect from other players, like someone mentioned in this thread. Its a long time to play the same game.

well, I was following the eve forums from late 2000, long before any playtesting even started. But, lack of a decent net connection prevented me accepting the beta invite, and I had to wait a good few months to join eve...
and I don't consider myself even close to "veteran"...
