So basically, you're saying that refugees from lesser complex MMORPGs are flooding EVE and will ultimately influence the devs to swing the game mechanics 180 degrees through sheer numbers?
I completely disagree.
First of all, EVE isn't even an MMORPG technically, it's just an MMO. The devs know what kind of game this is since, they built it, and I believe they have a very clear overview on which direction it should go. Yes, you're right in saying that they listen to their playerbase instead of companies like SOE or Blizzard, but they're not slaves to the playerbase either.
Players coming in from completely different MMOs such as EQ, EQII, WoW, and PlanetSide will probably want features in EVE to mirror what they experienced in their previous game, but CCP will never give in to implimenting game mechanics that doesn't fit in the direction they obviously want this game to go.
Why?
Because they're not sellouts. They never have been. And they never will be. If they impliment features such as deadspace instances for gangs only, or non-pvp carebare servers, chances are it will entice the refugees from games such as WoW, EQII, and SWG, raking in a lot of money in the process. But at the same time, it will immediately turn off the players that have been playing this game since day one...the same players that helped forge the game into what it is today...players that don't want to see EVE turn into the mockeries that MMORPGs like SWG, WoW, and EQII have become. If this game becomes another instant gratification game, the money CCP will lose from unhappy customers will severely outweigh the money CCP stands to gain from the minority playerbase that wanted the features in the first place.
Lastly, CCP doesn't even NEED to sellout the game to this new crowd of insta-grat gamers. Look at the main page of EVE. We just broke the record for having 18,000 players on at one time. Even if a percentage of those players are alts, that's still money for each account that goes into CCPs pocket. In fact, it's around $15 per account, and that's not counting the people that didn't happen to be playing when we did break the 18k mark.
CCP is a small company with dedicated devs that have clear, concise goals in mind. Small, non-corporation businesses will ALWAYS concentrate on quality over quantity...meaning they will give everything they have to make this game into what they dreamed it would be before they even started it over 2 years ago. Refugee players from completely different MMO games with different game mechanics won't change their minds. You may see 5-6 page threads about these issues, but the devs reply to them to show the community that they're here, they're active, and they want players to know that. They want players to know that they actually do give a damn, and that they won't shut themselves off from their playerbase.
If you ever have a dream, something that you want to create, something that you want to transform from imagination to reality, you'll realize that no force on earth could make you change your mind. People may influence you along the way in small doses, helping you to refine your dream, but no one will ever change it completely.
