No.
There is NEVER an excuse for such implications of real life violence. It's just a video game. Furthermore, all of the things you listed are all permitted by the game's rules, while goading to suicide, which you mentioned in the same breath as though somehow they are equivalent, is a violation.
By that measure alone, no matter what you do to someone in game, nor how far you chase them across the galaxy, they have no excuse to escalate in that manner. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

Why am I not surprised this happened in LOL?
I mean most communities on the internet show the worst of humanity, probably because of the anonymity you have. In EVE this is surprisingly rare from what I encountered. I think because despite the anonymity there are still consequences and if you run your mouth you paint a even bigger target on your head.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, go and play some LOL. I don't know how many times someone wished me cancer, and it was usually one from the own team. And I'm not a flamer, I usually try to deescalate.. I just don't surrender, ever, and that's all it takes for some kids to go completely insane.
To the OP: Don't play LOL, ever!! Report the dudes or haunt them down, after all eve has consequences. This behavior is not acceptable. |

You really need to seek counselling to discuss this issue. Something of this nature is not something posting to GD is going to address. Actually quite the opposite will happen.
Please take a little eve break and clear your head. You don't need to quit but you do need thicker skin. You can get that by talking through your problems with someone who is skilled. And when you do return, perhaps play a new character and avoid those players who have crossed the line.
Take care of yourself and remember this is just a GAME!

Came here to say the exact same thing.
Isn't there a celebrated meta-game throughout EVE in which, if I can make you mad enough to quit doing 'a thing', I win? see: miner bumping, the .01 game, duel blobbing, ninja salvage, afk cloaking... and on and on and on...

I think if you right click on someone's name, you can block them.
In the end, you are right. We should all be more polite and considerate of others feelings. However, you can only control one person in this world, and only you can decide who has more power. You are using the same power to "annoy and anger others" in the game, and they react impolitely. Do you ignore or disregard the hurtful words, or surrender your power to someone else, who "made" you feel things? |

i think everyone forgets that people are on the other end of that screen.
why do we play MMO's like this in the first place.... to make friends and not be alone in gaming. I have plenty of local games, but for some reason it's fun to be a part of a group with similar interests.
This game is strange in that people create these fake personalities and just are terrible to one another.... and somehow they think they are cool or it's just a game..... well it's not just a game it's a social setting with space ships.
I read your post and agree with many that if you play rough in this game, others believe you have a very tough skin, so they give back. You are dealing with someone who most likely was very hurt by your comments and went "over the line" as you put it.
As others have said, be kind... and more over... stop playing this game for a little while and let it go. You will be able to come back with a new clear head about it.
If you really are bummed about it,,,, hang out with me on some missions, if your toon can fly in High Sec...since i don't PVP at the moment. |

CCP, I believe you need to permanently ban the OP for their own good.
They've indicated a predilection to trouble and I feel their post is further proof of their desire to perpetuate their angst. Citing a mental illness as a means to get you (CCP) to dispense further misery is in my eyes, worse than any of the actions players may of taken against the OP.
It sounds as though the OP seeks out such troubles so that they can purposefully escalate it further with petitions. You (CCP) should nip this in the bud now!
I think any player that causes strife should expect some comeback regardless of how vitriol it may be.
Sometimes you (CCP) need to do the responsible thing, i.e.. stop thinking about your bottom line and dispense some loving in the form of bans, especially in situations where individuals may try to garner a sympathetic ear with the mention of a mental illness.

lol... they aren't giving OP a taste of their own medicine. If they were then they would use GAME MECHANICS to do so and find a way to deal with their 'issue' within that framework.
OP NEVER NEEDS TO CHANGE THEIR GAMING WAYS in order to avoid someone being upset.... which obviously upsets you and I'm glad it does. Who made you the gaming Moral Police? Just because you don't like the way someone plays does it make it wrong? OP plays within the intended framework of EvE as CCP intended it. So NOTHING is wrong with the way OP plays and has the perfect right to report someone who steps out of line in a verbally threatening manner.
OP you dont' deserve that type of treatment, unforunately you'll keep running into it, even if your just chatting in local. It really doesn't take much. I agree with an earlier poster that says skill your shields up to V and keep reporting when they step out of line, and know that there are those of us here that support you.

You and the rest of the hurt feelings brigade just don't seem to get it.
No in game actions, none whatsoever, justify telling someone to kill themselves. I could camp you in station 23/7 for months until you literally quit the game, and that still does not give you any justification to tell me to kill myself.
If you think that it does, and I believe you do think that given that you put quote marks in "over the line", then you need to learn to separate yourself from the game a bit (actually a lot). If lost pixels are so enraging to anyone that they say something like this then they are in the wrong.
That's the part where you keep getting lost.
YOU are in the wrong. You are wrong because you are telling people that somehow it's their fault another person broke the EULA. You are wrong because you seem to think that unless everyone is all carebear kindness, pink and fluffy bunnies in a grimdark video game about blowing up spaceships, that it somehow excuses the bile and vitriol that roll off the lips of the ganked.
And you are wrong because you think it might ever stop. We gank them precisely because they rage so hard over it, we gank them because they take their space pixels too seriously, but most of all we gank them because it's fun.
And it's a video game, so that is ok. Telling someone that you want them to die in real life, and describing how, is not ok. There's an order of magnitude of difference. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

Don't know about CCP, but Blizzard has REALLY clamped down on that stuff. Big warnings everywhere, especially on their forums (and they'll ban outright).
Harassment isn't being tolerated anymore (probably because when your devs are getting death threats, yeah, it's time to pull that plug).
There's a line between smack talk and causing actual harm.
Sadly because who MMOs attracts this difference isn't apparent (and in that Goon thread with all that smack, if anyone came in and took it seriously, that shows you the type of players who play in MMOs). You can goto a FPS game and smack talk to abandon and no one cares, but as soon as anyone talks about killing another personally, even they know that's over the top. Smack talk is suppose to nag you, not actually harm you. It's teasing, not bullying, teasing.
Someone who goes that far in a game has mental problems. Simply report them then put them on ignore. In WoW they tell you to do that because it shows the GMs the bottomline and who's the transgressor. When someone tells another they're on ignore and they continue to post to you directly, that leaves a trail of clear harassment that is undeniable (so anyone I informed here that I put you on ignore, and you continue to answer my posts egging a response, YOU are the aggressor and it's clear to any staff). IF staff ignores the bottomline, that is a problem then with the staff and their policy on harassment. "In a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." ~George Orwell

Who do you think plays EvE and willing to PLEX multiple accounts?
Someone very mentally healthy?
The very nature of Everybody vs Everybody every day says something about who plays this game. Not a cheerful lot. It's a sarcastic group of players who probably got thrown in a locker, and now want geek revenge as Luke Skywalker (or Darth Vader).
It's also a genre that attracts those with ADHD; ADD; Aspergers and probably even Tourettes.

Firstly I am sorry that you have depression, I know it is a very terrible thing.
I also agree that this is just a game and it is wrong for people to be abusive and say such things, but the internet and anonymity has always meant people act like jerks and do stuff they wouldn't do in real life, I would be 90% sure that the person who made the comment would never communicate with someone face to face like that.
However the above quote really bothers me, we are all responsible for our own lives threatening suicide or trying to blame others for our own actions is also wrong and not a very healthy attitude (many people who suffer from depression and addiction try and release themselves of their own responsibility by pushing the blame on others) IMO.
My advice would be to ignore it and file a petition as you have. Also if anyone is ever contemplating such things over the words of some stranger playing a game then I would really suggest that they seek professional help, so they can start getting better.

Ummmm.... You seem to have missed the point completely. The point here is not that the OP's character is an @55h013, but that the person who said the things they said, said it to her and not her character. EVE is a role playing game as much as anything else. A pirate is the scum of space. I know, my toon was killed by one the other day. The player opened a chat with me. We exchanged a few comments. He gave me advice on how to better fit my frigate, and it was cool.
Now what if I went on a rage and called him names and the like. Wouldn't it mean that I had lost the line between a role playing character, and real-life person who was playing a role? You're telling her to change her ways as if she is the villain. She is a gamerplaying a role. The individuals who have lost sight of the line between role play and real-life are the problem, and have a problem.
The GMs need to take this seriously. They need to have a chat with these fellows who forget that when their toons die, they themselves have not actually been killed, or scammed out of their last dollar (or euro, or yen, etc). They only lost ISK (unless they used real money to buy play money. Then it's their own damned fault. But I digress). |

If CCP devs got such death threats, you bet they'll tighten down the forums and stuff ingame.

I suffered through depression too. You don't understand what depression is or you would not have said what you said. With severe depression, you don't want to do ANYTHING. You want to just sleep and let your life go by in oblivion. You let obligations go unattended. With mild depression you feel the same way, but you still do what needs doing, you slog through your day and get most if not all of what needs doing - done, but you're in a miserable state of mind and being the whole - or most - of the time.
It's hard to find something that's enjoyable to do while suffering from depression because you basically lack enjoyment from pretty much everything - even the company of your loved ones. That's depression, and it can range from mild to severe. What kinds of games you play have nothing to do with it.
