The Jove, although they were cut off from Earth, didn't lose their technology. That's the difference.
If we ever ran into the Terran humans again, I suspect that they'd outtech the Jove by a significant margin.

Borg. Came from that satelite? The one that was captured by a robotic/artificial planet and got them active on the reach for perfection? Or the "maker"? Turning out to be NASA as it was their satelite? Or something like that.
If you look at the time that has passed then indeed the Oreo's (Original Humans) should outclass anything we have or be extinct for some reason. Or maybe assimilated heh. Or maybe they soaked too long in milk.

Edited by: Riffix on 30/11/2005 07:09:51 Now that I think about it, I can see a similarity between the Jove and the Romulans pre-Dominion war....or maybe a nerfed version of the Q....

Yes, and rouge drones are a rip off of the replicators.
But both rouge drones and replicators are 100% mechanical, while Borg are cybornetic. Hence my conclusion. ------

i swore to god when i started this game i would not stand by and silently let it be compared to star trek. it is a travesty. please i beg of you stop the comparison, with the exception of being in space they are almost nothing alike. lets all take a step back enjoy the game and not let the "EVIL SHOW" invade our EVE |

Where did you read that? The Jove are cut off like all other races in EVE from earth, it's just that they were the first to get into space....

Actually,if you see the eve intro again,it states that it was the Amarr empire who were the first to re-invent spaceflight...
Sort of... if you read the Jove backstory it says they only spent a few centuries after the collapse of the Eve gate before achieving spaceflight.
That is, a few centuries after 8061 AD.
The Amarrians 're-discovered' spaceflight (spec. warp technology/ Jump gate tech) "more than 2,000 years ago". Considering that the current date is 106 EST (I think?), which is equivalent to 23342 AD, the amarrians are 'a bit' behind.

The Jove are not the borg because the Jove are NOT EVIL COMMUNISTS THAT JUST WANT TO DESTROY OUR GREAT WESTERN FREEDOM LOVING WAY OF LIFE AND DESTROY OUR INDIVIDUALITY!! AND OUR ONLY HOPE AGAINST THEM ARE OUR BRILLIANT AND MORALLY SUPERIOR MILITARY AND OUR THOUGHTFUL AND LOVING LEADERS!!! SERVE THE LEADERS NOT THE TRAITORS THAT TELL YOU OTHERWISE!!!
oh and assimilate from Dictionary.com...
as+sim+i+late Audio pronunciation of "assimilate" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-sm-lt) v. as+sim+i+lat+ed, as+sim+i+lat+ing, as+sim+i+lates v. tr.
1. Physiology. 1. To consume and incorporate (nutrients) into the body after digestion. 2. To transform (food) into living tissue by the process of anabolism; metabolize constructively. 2. To incorporate and absorb into the mind: assimilate knowledge. 3. To make similar; cause to resemble. 4. Linguistics. To alter (a sound) by assimilation. 5. To absorb (immigrants or a culturally distinct group) into the prevailing culture.
Oh, and right now Borg also = Pathetic space zombies. *yawn*

Actually today's test tube babies aren't grown in tubes. They're fertilized in tubes and then placed inside women.
Originally by: Munin Crow I heard that Joves are 7 feet tall, and shoot lighting from their arse. They don't even need spaceships... they just take aim and fire and fleets are destroyed. I heard it from a friend of a friend of a friend of mine.
Originally by: Eris Discordia Jove's are ugly, I don't care what they can do tech wise, they are ugly as hell and creepy.
Well I'm not ugly but I am creepy, and I'm not seven feet tall, but I can shoot fire out of my arse. Does that make me half Jovian?

No, that was "VGER", which turned out to be a Voyager probe programmed to gather as much information as possible and launched in the 1970's...and at some point it must have encountered some alien race that outfitted it with a massive uber-powerful spaceship to fly around in and learn practically everything there is to know.

Actually Replicators are not 100% mechanical. You can't make a mechanical machine that acts like that out of all the same parts. To be honest I'd say they are almost not mechanical at all. And to make a mechanical machine that can think is incedibly complex and would probably be larger, even if made out of nano-parts. Drones would probably be mainly electric/photonic depending on what kind of tech EVE uses in that regard.
But to quoted point of ripoffs. Neiter Rogue Drones nor the Replicators of stargate are fully original concepts. The concept of self replicating machines has been done before in various varieties going back multiple decades. Just because Stargate is the first time some may have heard of it, doesn't mean it's the first time this has been done/written or thought about.
Anyway, it's not the concept that makes something original (very few original concepts in entertainment these days. Almost everything has been done in some way before) it's the specific implementation of that concept.
Both Replicators and Rogue Drones follow a same basic concept with a vastly different implementation.
Klingons are also a very common concept: Barbarian/War-like race with some basic honor codes... (mixed in Norse, Japanese and others with a few original ideas) and it's done in space. Again it's not the concept that gives Kilingons their idenity it's the implementation. The concept just gives us a basic associative framework to see them in.

Borg are basicly one of the most Evil scifi Evils around imo, they are cold, calculating and do not stop at any cost. closest thing to the borg in games i know are the Zerg from starcraft.

Quote: By this time the Jovians had begun interfering with their basic instincts, curbing their aggression and sexual instincts and cultivating strange new ones instead.
So in theory they have no need for two genders. The cloning takes care of the reproduction and the weird meddling takes care of... well, everything else.
Since we've never seen an obvious female, I suspect one of the following is true: 1) All Jovians are male 2) All Jovians are female
Most likely the choice was made based on who was in charge of the cloning vats at the time.
I think the next step is to devise tests to find out which is the case. Submit your proposal of what we can do to TomB to discover the Jovian gender.
(edit: character TomB, not dev TomB) ------ I generally assume the following: 1. 95% of Empire Carebears don't get 0.0 PVPers. 2. 95% of 0.0 PVPers don't get Empire Carebears. 3. 100% of Ore Thieves steal just to upset the Miners. |

Either that or we're moving into Tleilaxu territory, and the women are the cloning tanks. Hence why we've not seen one.
I'd still be in favour of running tests on TomB to find out though (just to be on the safe side) ... lets start by taking that nerf bat and... <use your imagination>
Anyway, in my opinion, the Jove are closer to the Asgard from Stargate than they are the Borg of Star Trek.
