Something just occured to me has anyone written a story or screenplay set in the eve universe?

Personally I'd see it as better suited for a television series on the order of Battlestar Galactica than a movie. There's a lot of story in EVE, too much for a two hour film to really cover.
Besides, with our luck Uwe Boll would helm it.

Film followed by series perhaps?

Series with films would be more interesting I think. Have one series that carries a major plot throughout, and movies to cover side stories, background stories, that kind of thing.
Sort of like how Babylon 5 did it, where the movies covered background and non-essential stories. Maybe without the suck that was Thirdspace though.. god..

Even better - hire Ben Browder to shoot out to the EVE universe and **** everyone off.
Hey it worked for Farscape which was (no contest) best Sci-Fi story.

That's so predicatable though. :) We'd want to mix it up with a lot of stuff you wouldn't see in a typical sci-fi show. Like say realism, with consequences to actions. BSG-ish, one might say. :)

The EVE Movie has been pitched way too often. I hear there was talks about making one, but such things can evaporate in a heartbeat in Hollywood.
As for screenplays... I wouldn't want to be the poor sod to write it. ---
Is this a constructive thread? |

God no!
I think the story on the start of eve would be good. Film ending with the wormhole closing and the races being crushed. Would start off with the wars in the old system and finish in dispare. A good mix of action and emotion.

Edited by: Hippey on 01/09/2005 14:02:47 Unfortunatelly, as much as I would love an EVE movie, series, the Amarr/Minmattar story would look too much like Centauri/Narn, respectively, of Babylon 5. Of course, if it wouldn't be based so much on the past, but rather, where it goes from here, and it went different then Babylon5 told the story progression, then it would be much better. Ie. Narn (Minmattar) don't become peace loving pacifists, but instead, join up with the Jove (Vorlons) and wipe the Amarr (Centauri) of the face of the galaxy. Now I'd pay to see that! ------------------------------------------- If you kill them, they will die!

Well, we would, but would anyone else? Probably not. The reason is we know the story and the game, while Joe Schmoe can't just walk off the street and enjoy the movie. The first EVE movie, if there ever was one, would have to provide an awful lot of backplot before it could possibly be enjoyed by a larger audience.
And the real seller would be the actors and the story. Probably the best way to do it would be to tell the story from the smaller perspective and move outward to the larger. Kind of like how Starship Troopers took the view from a kid graduating high school and joining the military and eventually becoming embroiled in a war.

EvE the movie:
Everything's fine for 10 minutes, then the film starts jerking horribly - but only for people in rows J to M. Half an hour later, the whole thing stops completely. You can hardly hear yourself for the whining. After two hours of nothing, the projectionist tells you that there are network problems but they are all fixed now. Some people in the front row claim that they can see something, but nobody else can.
Meanwhile, people sitting at the back are complaining that the seats at the front are too powerful and need to be made less comfortable...
[Just joking, I love EvE and it's not too flaky most of the time]

How about this:
A young gallente becomes a pilot during the caldari war. He joins a ship and the film is about a gallente ship persuing an elusive pod pilot who out flies the crewed ship?
This is a good prequel to the game i feel.

Screw the Gallente. Give me a movie about the Caldari or Amarr or get lost!

And that would become boring after about half an hour. Besides, no one except the 60k players would know what the hell was going on.
I agree, that a movie followed by a series would be interresting. But the cast/story would have to change from episode to episode (perhaps every two episodes), following one crew gets tedious and repetitive. Also, there is way too much content in EVE to put into a story about just one man/crew.
Idea:
A large introduction movie, 1.5-2 hours long. Starting with an introduction of the backstory (EVE-gate, collapse etc), then introduction of the different empires. Move forward to the Gallente/Caldari & Amarr Minmatar war. Then one episode starts there (in the first movie).
The series would then go on, each new episode telling a story from a different person. I.e a Caldari mercenary, Amarr slaver, Gallentean scientist, Gurista Pirate etc. And let the different plots evolve around these characters.
Then later on, the script would let all these different characters interact. On different sides of the battles, so that there's no "Hero"żi.e Luke Skywalker kinda character.
Anyways, I'm just rambling on now, and this idea would really need to be tweaked and rewritten lots of times for it to work. It's what I'd like to see though

Ha, so basically it would be like the Fellowship of the Ring. Walk(Mine), Walk(Mine), Walk(Mine), Get chased,Walk(Mine),Walk(Mine),Walk(Mine),GetChased,Walk(Mine),Walk(Mine),Walk(Mine)

that wont work in eve.
There isnt 1 character/race that is uber you would have to get something of it all.
I think rotating story's between 4 crew's/persons would be the way to go.

oh gawd, EVE would have to get their story staright first. The EVE Chronicles and Short Stories have so many conflicting facts.
FOR EXAMPLE: Do our ships actually have crews or are they controlled only by the pod pilot?!?!
that would definately need to be addressed before a movie/series would be made
even the clock got nerfed |

They had crews but now don't atleast players don't anyway.
It wouldneed to be a prequel perhaps even not called EVE just set in the universe of eve.

To be honest, I totally threw out the pod concept when doing Nature Vraie. I always thought a good*****pit/bridge dynamic is more interesting than describing how someone sitting in a pile of goo imposes their will on the ship, in terms of storytelling.
Besides, nobody said I couldn't take a bit of artistic license with the story. ;)
