I think it is important to note that miner bumping has emerged because of the barge buff. The number of barge ganks has dramatically decreased and the number of miners bumped has dramatically increased. The significance of this is that a change to game mechanics does not stop players from doing what they want to do.
Before any changes are proposed and or considered for their implications(many of which are unintended) the response to these changes has to be considered first. If by some ingenious way CCP were able to completely stop miner bumping without any unintended ramifications I would expect AWOXing to rise significantly or some other method that forces player to player interaction.
Any "fix" to miner bumping will merely move the problem to another aspect of eve gameplay. I suggest it is the forced player interaction that the miners have a problem with. I suggest its the interaction miners have a problem with because they have chosen the most solo thing you can do in eve-online; mining an infinite resource to sell. As eve is an MMO I don't think there is a problem with the game at all, the miners themselves are the ones that need to be fixed.
The same miners that supported the barge buff probably support the idea that ganking(or otherwise killing) miner bumpers should be much easier. The same miners that complain that NPC corps should not be hiding places for miner bumpers are the same kind of miners that would have used NPC corps to hide. The same kind of miners that got folding and recreating a corp labeled not an exploit are probably scoffing at the idea that miner bumpers do the exact same thing. This meta-game requires a meta-game solution; miners - you need to solve this yourselves as in my opinion CCP is simply not able to do so.
To any miners still reading: I suggest you pay the measly 10 million isk and start enjoying the emergent gameplay being provided. Payable to me in-game, thanks! |

Plenty of pilots asking for a effective counter to bumping...
Can I ask on behalf of everyone else for an effective counter to afk mining ect? A few suggestion: Being afk for 3 minutes or more gives you an aggression timer. Introducing a module that delays concord. Making afk against the rules. Allowing ore bays to be stolen from.
Any of the above are very much comparable to the popular requests from miners and would make the game more interesting instead of dull. Please, please stop asking for balancing or fairness - you already have it! Every ship in eve is able to bump but unlike mining it requires being at the keyboard AKA playing the game. In my opinion if anything barges need to be nerfed, 80,000 EHP is insane for a ship that can also go 1km/s with merely an AB(yes i am talking about the skiff).
All that being said I think the best thing for CCP to do is concentrate on making mining more intresting/engaging rather than afk/safe. |

Dramiel Dan wrote:I just wanted to get my say in real fast. 1. Miner bumpers stay in NPC corps, so there is no recourse the miners have, short of hiring someone who doesn't mind using alts to end up with CONCORDed ships at every attack. They are abusing and exploiting the mechanics of the game by hiding behind the skirts of NPC corps, because they cannot be wardec'd. 2. Miner bumpers claim to be going after afk miners and bots, but I see them griefing the same active, at keyboard miners for hours on end, day after day. This is griefing. It is harassment. Period. 3. Game mechanics have been changed many times due to the brilliance of groups such as the Goons. It needs to be changed for the miner bumping exploit as well. These carebear players are, yet again, getting bullied. Only this time they have no built in recourse. One needs to be made for them.
Remember, the more the carebears are hindered, the more your costs go up.
1. The majority are not in NPC corps, this point is invalid with regard to this discussion. 2. Bumpers, bump all non paying miners - you misunderstand our goals, please see minerbumping.com for details. 3. Although it is extortion it is not an exploit as stated by CCP already, please read the OP before commenting.
Before you quit eve - can i have your stuff? |

Anslo wrote:Miners already run the risk of a gank, as has been shown in the past. What do you run? Everyone in eve runs the same risk when they undock; miners, gankers, bumpers, mission runners ect ect. Everyone who undocks risks losing their ship. I don't see how this fact is unfair in anyway... I honestly don't see how you think making specifically what miner bumpers do more risky in some way just because they interact with you in a way you don't like. How is that fair to them?
However imperfect EvE might be (whether its the war dec system or aggression mechanics) EvE remains to be fair to all. Anything a miner bumper can do to a miner a miner can do the same thing to them; which is entirely fair imo. How can anything be harassment if it is fair? |

The last 30/40 post half been made by only a half dozen people, I think it is time that CCP chimes in and either makes a decision or start to guide the discussion. Us players can continue yelling at each other until we are blue in the face but nothing will be decided by us, unless anyone can think of anything especially relevant and significant I think it would be best if we stop posting until CCP steps in.
To get CCP's attention a thumbs up to this comment probably wouldn't hurt. |
