I'm currently running level 3 missions with an artillery hurricane. I'm going to be going into Level 4s sometime soon and was wondering if I should look towards a loki or a BS.
For a loki I've only got to train cruisers 5 and the subsystems, I have all of the other pre requisites. I'm curious if it would be better to train for the loki and T2 medium guns or train up for a BS and large guns and prolly some other skills I'm missing. Currently I have most of the support gunnery skills at 3 or 4.
Basically I'm curious if a loki can run level 4s. I know the tengu runs them pretty well, but I don't want to train all the way up for that.
If it can run them would it be better to do the training for cruisers 5 or train BS and the large gun skills. I basically want to settle on a shiptype before I train for T2 guns.
If the loki is viable that would be my preference. |

The loki can run them, i did for a while. BUT the extremely short range means you lose a LOT of real world dps that a battleship wont have to bother about due to the range of the guns.
I sooo wanted to love the loki for pve too, but sadly the range isnt there so while it can easily tank anything and yes it is fast, but moving to the next target will mean your dps is reduced and in many cases zero where a battleship can just pound away.
Mealstrom then machariel... really there is no excuse for the loki in missions.. sadly

Loki loses out to a Sleipnir, and a Sleipnir can't compete with a Vargur/Machariel. Sleipnir is probably roughly on par with a Maelstrom depending on the mission mix. So given the options, well, get a Maelstrom and work towards bigger and better things.

I'm going to go with start with a Maelstrom and then pick ether the Vargur or Machariel. Both are great ships. With the Vargur you only have to train one skill if you maxed all your skills with the Maelstrom. With the Machariel you will need to train up the fail line of ships from frigs to BS of the gallent. Normaly I'm all for the pirate ships being better then the T2 BS's but man I just wish the Machariel was not attachted to such a fail line of ships.
But the Machariel in and of it's self is a wonderfull wonderfull ship. It's mainly the gallent BS's that I find fail with.
Is it a rock? Point a Lazer at it and profit. Is it a ship? Point a Lazer at it and profit. I dont realy see any differnces here. |

I use a Loki for exploration and it's fine, but for mission running, no. You can't get enough range out of it unless you fit arties, and even then you would be better off in a different and cheaper ship. For PVP it's great, however... :)
If you want high resists against Sansha/Blood/Amarr, and range, get a Munin. Otherwise, Maelstrom or Tempest for missions.
If your goal is to get into a T3, train HACs, and fly them for a while first. The T2 guns and other support skills you will gain will be useful forever, plus it costs as much to run as a BS and if you don't have the large gun skills yet or BS at 4 or 5 then you will perform worse in a BS.

Awesome, thanks that s a good idea, I currently have medium guns to 4. I might go for a HAC while training up a BS. I know I'll need alot of the support skills much higher for the large guns to work well. so maybe faster to train for a HAC and use that then build up skills for a BS.
Gonna have to plan it out in Evemon first and see what will take how long. Thanks for the idea though :)

Wonderful, Gallente, Normally What does in and of it is self mean? it's? Really? itself. And please spell check that signature of yours....just wow. Laser, don't, really, differences.
Machariel is a great ship. So are the Gallente Drone capable battleships/cruisers/frigs. And the drone skills are great for every ship you fly with a drone bay.
