CCP want them up in Iceland so they can get them drunk then get them to sign an agreement for other game changing items.
The question is: do the folks on the CSM have the integrity to ignore the handouts and get to the issues? This isn't just a pivotal moment for CCP, it's THE pivotal moment for the CSM too.
Oh, and why wait a week? I can set you up a Webex conference - CCP, CSM, and whoever else we can fit in about 10 minutes time. Just ask!
And, as someone mentioned, if this isn't covered live in video and by eve-radio, it didn't happen.

Further proof that it doesn't matter what CCP says, you'll believe whatever the forum trolls want you to believe.
I don't blame them a bit for not paying as much attention to what is said here as they used to. It's pointless.
Meanwhile, 99% of the EVE Online player base continues to play as normal. Well, with the added amusement of laughing at the people shooting indestructible items in a protest sparked by an edited document taken out of context.

Hello there!
Thank you for your Dev Blog.
I hope you don't mind if I keep protesting until you're done with the CSM and another week of not posting the logs.
Thank you very much.

Dear CCP,
It is not that you made the NeX items unreasonably pricy, although you have. It is not that we merely dislike change. Some of us dislike it, some of us welcome it.
It is that your business plan, from everything we can see, intends to take away the gameplay central to Eve; the player-driven economy. You're planning on making players that have spent time training for manufacturing, researching blueprints to wring out research efficiencies compete with a deus ex credit card.
Someone else pointed out that many player corporations have standings aid as a service for new recruits. You have players themselves advancing the social mechanics of your game, as part of the gameplay. Do you really think it's a good idea to disrupt that?
When we join, we join for the shiny. I joined because I might someday get to fly a Nyx. I'll admit that. But I've stayed, (and paid for new accounts like this one), because it is the players that drive the lore. The epic battles people talk about in chat while mining are the battles that they or their friends participated in, or caused. All of the politics is real. The bad guys are that other group of players that threw a wardec your way.
What we're worried about is that you'll start by taking the little things away, like offering standings aid as a player corp service, and move on to bigger things. There will be people that are willing to pay real money for the I-win-mobile. If you think that you can boil a few hundred thousand frogs to reach out to the few thousand teenagers with dad's credit card you'll lose us too. Then you will have lost what makes the game worth playing.
You'll lose the experienced FCs that know how to run a fleet and can train noobs to be just as valuable as the pilot in the that T2 cruiser. You'll lose the alliances that police their own territory making the alliance mechanics work. You'll lose the smart players who have poured so much time, thought, and effort into the game. The only kinds of players you gain are the ones with short attention spans. The ones that have no patience. The ones that play a "title" and move on.
And what happens when that's your player base? You have to be forever adding "content" like WoW does. Here's the new dance of the month. I've come to hate the term "content" because it's come to be akin to "just give them more icons". I'm not looking for just "content", I'm looking for play.
Most of your players today are not kids. I'm in my late thirties. I work in the software field. Like most of your players, I'm not stupid. I am not just a revenue stream. I say these things not in an attempt to gain your respect. I say these things in the hopes that they make you think about the kinds of players you want inhabiting your universe.
I won't cancel my account yet. You haven't upended the sandbox yet. Like your CEO suggested, I'll watch what you do more than what you say. I played Star Wars Galaxies, I had a character that made weapons. I had a plan in the game to become the premier gunsmith in my little neighborhood. That was what I was going to play toward. Sony changed the game, I dropped my subscription because it wasn't fun anymore. Please don't do that to us.
Regards,
Nyssa
+1 I won`t be cancelling. though if the MT extends beyond vanity for your avatar or ships as a skinning option, I may rethink it depending on what gets introduced. Guess the next few weeks are going to be interesting.

We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land, and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be

I see this latest development as a good thing.
While they do not answer main concerns, it may be due to the fact that recent events with the playerbase made them think twice about their plan for selling virtual goods. Right now CCP might simply not have a solid strategy any more. Thats where the 2 day summit comes in - to get the new, hopefully improved strategy sorted out.
Their biggest mistake were not the ideas, but rather failures to communicate. And in my opinion, this is a decent first step to untangle the mess that has been created.

Edited by: diaufop on 26/06/2011 19:21:16 "There are no plans".
I'd just like to take a moment to say this to all eve customers.
"There are no plans". This was exactly what Turbine used to deny LoTRO going f2p+cash shop less than 2 weeks before the official announcement.
"There are no plans" is the single most common weasel-word phrase used to mean "we're doing it, but not ready to go public".
"there are no plans", from Zulu means precisely ****-all. This whole blog is just another stalling tactic.
There is absolutely nothing that CCP can discuss with the CSM in Iceland in a week's time that they couldn't discuss with them via skype over the last few days.
CCP are hoping that by announcing they refuse to discuss the issues until then that everyone will calm down and carry on buying monocles and ignore the veritable piles of **** CCP have heaped upon them in the past few days. And then post some weasel-worded document at the end of the week that amounts to "we're carrying on anyway, but this time we got the CSM drunk enough to agree!".

It is quite obvious you could not say "We will never sell non-vanity items".
My subs have been in cancellation status for 3 days and there is no chance that will ever change now.
I can unequivocally state that I will never put another dime into your company again.
I can also unequivocally state that I will never advise nor reccomend to anyone that they do so either.
My ranting and protest are done, you win.

You, the EVE community have been massively trolled. You couldn't have made it easier for them.
ATM we don't care what CCP is saying; it's what they are NOT saying... but it's all good, we're just following Hilmar's footsteps with this one.
It's pointless because ... ? It's a simple yes or no question, and since the NeX system is already out, I find it hard to belive it's a corporate secret to let us know "we will f**k you up with golden thoraxes in the future".
99% of EVE players are still playing because they still have time remaining on their accounts and the big game-changing features have not yet been deployed, so your statement is invalid.
And no, we have not been trolled, we've been kept in the dark and LIED to, so it's only natural we're [severe understatement] upset [/severe understatement] .
To most of us, who have invested more than a decade to this game, learning and adapting to new content over the years, it's a severe backstab. I don't know where you stand on this matter and I don't care, because I won't be here when the pack of golden d!ldo thoraxes are gonna bankroll your low/null gang. So have fun with that. |

Of course no "plans" just means there's no definitive decision. What does seem apparent is MT is where the industry is heading and parts of CCP feel they must follow or be left behind. But where are the rest of the Eve's contemporaries? I tried SWG within a month of release, gave it about a year then decided I didn't want to play anything from SOE again.
The concept of MT for vanity items is OK with me. I like my fanfest T-shirt. Plex has also worked well, it allows people to play, especially in hard economic times, and other subsidize their playing while being able to raise valuable seed money, which is difficult in Eve without a legal system. Content that players optionally pay for might work in the short run, but the top content is player created.
The problem with improving a business is usually that only the things that can go on a ledger get seriously counted. The difficult things to grasp are almost invariably undervalued, until they're lost and never coming back.

Edit: there's absolutely no reason to fly the CSM out to Iceland (they didn't even bother to consult the CSM on the NEX question in the first place, remember?) They bought themselves a week, in the hopes that (some of) the natives will be less restless by then. Smart move (it's what they should've done in the first place), but if anyone really believes this is to result in actual changes, ha ha.
