Do me a favour, CCP, and watch the trailer for the Trinity expansion.
I started playing just after Apocrypha hit (recognised as the last "excellent" expansion you have produced) and was not around in the days of Trinity. I just watched the trailer for the first time and it almost brings a tear to the eye, both because it looks and sounds amazing, but also because it's sad to see what state the game is in now.
CCP, you guys were awesome. You didn't sell out to anyone. You made the game you wanted to make and you didn't give a flying **** about what was happening elsewhere in the industry. When did that change? When did you stop caring? I believe we can bring the glory days of EVE back by working together, but we need a long term commitment from you that you will drop any plans for microtransactions beyond vanity items, start making AND FIXING internet spaceship content and promise to be honest about your intentions and act with integrity.
If you need some money, increase the subscription rate. I would gladly pay more for the game if I knew it were going towards the future of EVE and not DUST or WoD

Random reply but has to be said.
First Point: Yes PLEX is a form of MT (here is the important part) >>>>> BUT <<<<< buying a PLEX and selling it for ISK to buy your Titans, or Chelms Cap Rechargers, ONLY enables you to buy something that already exists.
ISK = Buy what already exists within the game. / PLEX = ú/$/Monopoly money \ AUR = Break out your Harry Potter wizards play set and poof, **** appears.
Second Point: CCP is now in the hands of the Investment Bankers, the very same people that caused the financial situation that everyone but themselves are enduring right now.

Just drop AUR. Trash the code. I get now why Microsoft didn't want you, they thought you were morons (Bill Gates' wallets says they're right).

What I'm ok with: AUR / ISK for in-game benefits: $50 for a full set of +6 implants? Cool. X Aur / Isk for +x% damage implant? Cool. Slightly better ships, alright, fine. Better ammo? Fine. Etc. If the benefits are minor and not huge and reasonable in price (a minimum wage worker in any country could afford a few of such items a month).
What I'm NOT ok with: Aur / Isk for gate tolls, buying SP, paying Isk / Aur for things we get now, already, for free such as docking in a station.
Also: FIX WHAT'S BROKEN BEFORE YOU ADD MORE!
P.S. CCP, please keep in mind this is a universe you've made. Something you called not a game but REAL LIFE at FanFest. Real life does not change on a whim with every gust. Minor additions we, the PLAYERS, see coming from a mile away is fine. Huge sweeping changes dropped on us anytime you like? Not. Cool.

I'm not quite as upset with the various issues as some of the people, but I can certainly understand where they're coming from. And I'll just present my views on the subject.
Incarna is a terrible expansion. That in my view is the source of 90% of your problems. -it actually reduced functionality in a number of ways highlighted by Tippia and others -it offered practically no changes to the "flying in space" feature -the "Walking in Closets" aspect is very feature limited, offering nothing we couldn't already do. The controls are awkward. It takes longer to load, hardly boding well for when we'll have to interact with dozens of people in future expansions. -it was a rushed expansion. Not even waiting until you had all 4 station environments completed was a mistake. -it makes very little sense based on what we know about capsuleers and their preference for staying in their nice gooey pod
WoW got away with selling a $25 mount because by and large they also release really good content for their subscribers. LotRO gets away with selling practically everything because its essentially free to play. Eve hasn't had a major content patch since Apocrypha, and it still has a subscription fee. If you had waited till you released a high quality expansion like Apocrpyha or maybe even Incursion, then you might have gotten away with introducing the Real Money store. But choosing to do that *instead* of offering any decent content was a terrible idea.

They won't say that, not in a million years. What they will say is:
- this newsletter was a brainstorming session
- They cannot promise anything about the future
- They're very sorry (that they're not sorry)
- It was a draft
- They will iterate on it
I think thats why its called a SPINblog.
They just spin words with no real meaning.
Anyways I'm unsubbed and just became a forum warrior
Ultimately the forum furor won't really matter.
Anyone who has taken the time to read the newsletter will know those ideas were not hatched overnight. They were clearly laid out with pros and cons, and presented to the CCP employee workforce as a done deal.
Which means they were presented to the CCP Venture Cap people, and anyone who has a vested interest in CCP's future (which isn't her player base 'natch). CCP's CEO will not be calling a meeting with his investor's next week saying "Sorry guys, I know we spent the last half year working out new ways to make money... but a lot of faceless trolls on the forums cried, so it's back to the drawing boards for new money making ideas".
CCP will spin the hell out of this event, and people will continue to subscribe regardless. Ultimately Dust and WoD will be released and CCP will succeed or fail based on those ventures. SWG's NGE might have hurt Sony Online... but they're very much stil around and kicking as a company.

Edited by: Crexa on 24/06/2011 15:37:11 On the whole I had thought the June expansion, Incarna was ok, not great but ok.
But, a lot of things are starting to snowball. I understood that CQ was just the first step in being able to walk in stations and interact with other players, so I forgive the lack of anything to do in CQ. AUR was a way to bring CCP some additional revenue, ok no big deal. I don't care about vanity until its something I want. Ie. Corp/Alliance logo on my ship. Or hash marks indicating the number of kills I have made with the ship I am flying, (until its destroyed). The prices on the clothing items was not a good indicator of future items being worth buying, but I assumed it was just a starter price point, not a shakedown. That the prices shown would be reduced drastically once the bugs were out of the system. But then, the internal pdf came to light.
My god people! What in the hell were you thinking? Even if its purely speculative, its an insanely stupid thing to do. Introducing game items that impact game play breaks the sandbox. Hell it breaks theme park games.
One final question; Is CCP in talks with Sony Online Entertainment to be acquired?

Just here to say that I will wait to see what the blog says... but if it includes MT's that involve in game standing/ships/ammo that are spawned from nothing or circumvent current game mechanics don't see this game lasting too long.

I've played Eve for about 2 years and in that time I've enjoyed the game quite a bit. But if the game comes down to a contest of who has the biggest real life wallet, then I'll probably look for another game.

Two accounts continuasly active since 2004, both unsubscribed as soon as present subscription period ends. Thankfully Bioware have a MMO due fairly soon, and thier record for quality games is superb. Planescape Torment,Fallout to Mass effect. Baulders Gate to Dragon Age,nothing more needs saying.

"You have cancelled your EVE Online subscription.
Your account will be suspended at the end of the current subscription period, expiring on XXXXXXXXXXXX."
To be clear, this is nothing to do with CQ so much as it is the repeated feeling with each patch that your trying to sell me a constant stream of half-assed new stuff with no commitment to past features added.
Why should I be excited about new shineys when the past shineys get dull so fast, and receive so little attention?
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me repeatedly for 7 years, shame on me.
But you'll keep telling us "THIS IS GOING TO GET BETTER! WE'RE GOING TO IMPROVE ON THIS" until you find another shiney to wave in our faces, another game to develop with our subscription money.
SHOW YOUR COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE OR I'LL NEVER FEEL MOTIVATED TO CLICK ON RESUME SUBSCRIPTION.
In fact, i feel kinda good now that I did it.
A good business should be a healthy relationship between the company and it's customers. Customer's should feel taken care of, not milked for every last drop, tricked and scammed by repeated broken promises.
Smiling to our faces and promising your focus is on Eve, while throwing our money towards things that, had we known, we'd never have given you the money to begin with.
It's just like being in a bad relationship with a woman. Just because you love her doesn't mean it's healthy. At some point you just have to get out or your only hurting yourself.
Good luck with your ps3 fps and emo vampires.
I hope it keeps you in business, there are many good ppl at CCP i'd hate to see fail because of your misguided, short-term earnings based thinking.

CCP Hiring New Chief Marketing Officer
Someone should apply since CSM is obviously bull**** and kill the lies from within.
Was there a Chief Marketing Officer before? Normally Sales & Marketing reports to the CFO - this just proves that CCP new business plan is already being implemented ... or that they realised the current CFO is an incompetent money grabbing coward.

CCP's silence is what's fueling the fire.
I mean how hard is it to say I'm sorry, this is what our idea was, etc?
They so far are handling it like they have most everything. Post a thread, make a few replies for about 12 hours. Never visit the thread again. Hope the fire burns out. It's worked in the past for many minor issues but this time I don't think it's going to work.
They are no doubt waiting to put out a release at the last possible moment before they all go home, which will no doubt fuel the fire even more since it means no real debate or parley it is just a statement and then a stonewall.
I mean it would go a long way if CCP Soundwave just appeared said, Hey guys I'm sorry for the tone I took that was offensive in the leaked magazine. It was never intended to be released to the public and as such I used what was unprofessional language. The intent was to raise debate. As a result of that debate you'll get further information from other blogs shortly.
Something like that would go a long way to helping, yes he'll be flamed, but also when you sincerely ask for forgiveness people generally give it.

When I read the newsletter at this part:
Kristoffer is a driving force in CCPÆs Game Design department. The vast majority of his free time is spent buying dresses for his characters (using microtransactions) in League of Legends and reading authentic Japanese Manga comic books.
I thought, buy him a Barbie or Ken (whatever he prefer) and get rid of him!
Most stuff is already mentioned in this thread, so why I post? To show CCP one further guy is taking care and want answers! I personaly gues it's really to late late for empty frases apologieses, you now have to live with the ghosts you called CCP.
Answer our questions, tell how you gonna trade with us now, don't fool us further and write further posts without saying anything like the first in this thread.
