Hi all, as i spent some time ratting and making some money i wanted to put it to good use by making some training in pvp. I'd like to do something in low or null-sec, but i would have preferred to start with an Incursus, as i have not much experience and i plan to lose some ships... But in low-sec i rarely see any frigate and they always are near gate or station sentries, while in 0.0 the smaller ship i can hope to find is a t2 fitted cruiser... Should i stick to the frigate or move up to a cruiser? I can lose some cruisers, but not as easily as a little frigate... Do you have experience about soling in a frigate? Thank you all

Frigates are great as thier are many soloers out thier, and no one is afraid of taking on a frigate so you can lure in any one you want.

This one I've used many times, if your skills permit, you can try your luck vs cruiser/BC, tank and kill drones leaving your target unable to track a close orbiting frigate. /join Cheeze & Whine Club

Sure.
downside: you'll die a lot
upside: frigates are cheap as hell so it doesn't matter that you'll die a lot
If you go the whole hog on being cheap and stick to t1 frigs, you can make all your own crap in 0.0 with minimal manufacturing and subsist on almost no PvE whatsoever. You'll die _even more_, but see "upside". ---

Frigates are excellent for PvP.
Best thing about them: They are cheapish, thus you are free to experiment without fear. I would recommend you go to low sec as 0.0 targets come only in limited varieties, none really suitable for you:
- Cloaky transports (You could hunt those with sling bubbles I suppose) - Fleets - Ratters that are too big for you anyway (T3, Drakes or Ravens) - Shuttles/Newbie ships (Can hunt with bubbles as well, but why?!)
In low sec, look for other pirates with low security status. On the gates/stations you are free to engage them as gate guns will not help him. And if his buddies engage the guns will be on your side. And flashing Rifters are very common.
Other places are belts. You need to be good with directional scanner of catching anyone though. Another problem is that 85% of the time that ship sitting in the belt is bait. But in general bait is rarely a tech I frigate, so as long as you stick to those you should be in the clear.
If you are frustrated of not finding a target for a long time, name your ship "Tech I 1v1" and sit about 60 km away from top belt in Ammamake. The distance is so that you will see what will come for you and can choose whether to fight or run. Other good places for nearly guaranteed fight are Old Man Star and Rancer. Faction Warfare focal points in general will give you a fight eventually.
Main things to remember: 1. Don't be afraid! This is most important. It is just a frigate. Engage that ship and see how you go. With time you will figure out what you can take on and how to fly. This is the only way to learn
2. Don't be discouraged by losses. That pirate flying that Rifter been at it for years. Keep at it and you will become just as good if not better with time. Every loss is a learning experience and we all had went through this to get where we are. Stick with it
3. Learn how to use directional scanner. Absolutely essential, as it will find you targets and tell when when to get the hell out
4. Learn how to get your pod out. Keep spamming warp even before your ship explodes.
5. Learn about various timers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyjBwWcFGe0
6. Again: Don't be afraid to engage!
Flying a frigate is a lot of fun. This is one of the few areas of the game that 1v1 still happens. There is nothing like the adrenaline rush of you killing him while being in structure yourself! Once you had a close fight like that, everything else in EVE will seem bland in comparison.
Sorry for not having an Incurses fit for you as I am a Rifter man myself. Tristan is also a good Gallente frigate, but needs more training.
Good luck out there.

Idiots would have you believe that frigates doesn't need any training just train lol t2 ..nothing can be further from the truth.
Max out mechanic/shield/armor/navigation/drones/gunnery/roflkets etc/Targeting/Cap skills and of course weapon upgrades and advanced weapon upgrades ( to be able to fit the thing). Train you racial frig to V. Then you will being to understand what a small hull can do. THEN go Cruisers.

Merlin, Tristan, Rifter.
If you can fly any one of these, T2 fit, you'll be set.

I'd say: Merlin, Rifter.
Btw inty or dramiel is the only thing which is capable to solo everywhere xept WHs. So, frigates (faction or T2) aren't good, they are just the only possible variant for you...

Frigates die a lot but they are cheap and more importantly, frigate combat, once you find it, is enormous fun. Best way to get fights is not to go hanging around gates. You'll die more often that way. Rather warp to the belts in losec systems at range and keep an eye on your scanner to see who's coming. If you're in a t1 frigate, generally, keep away from faction and t2 frigates, but this is not a hard rule. It's the best way to learn.

Edited by: Taurean Eltanin on 09/05/2011 12:28:08 I pvp exclusively in frigates, and the vast majority of my kills are solo kills in low sec.
Feel free to check out my blog and decide for yourself whether it is something you want to do.
Edit: And for what it's worth, I started in a Punisher. I have solo killed every class of ship up to and including a battlecruiser in a T1 frigate, so I can't think of any reason the Incursus would not be viable.

T1 frigates is the right way to go if you're learning. Tristan, incursus, merlin, punisher and rifter are all pretty capable. After a while you'll want to at least move up to t2 frigates as you'll need an AF or faction frigate to take down dramiels, which are like a plague at the moment.

Read http://www.eve-search.com/thread/1146401 and then go buy some Taranii or Incursii. Its worth noting that this was written before the pirate/faction frigate buff but there are still a lot of kills out there for cheap T2 frigates to pick up.
