How come I'm coming across ice fields that have dozens of macks & hulks in them even though Hulkageddon is in full swing? Take Mitsolen & Halaima for example - these are both just a stone's throw from Jita yet the bots are still plentiful there to say the least.
It is that Macks are harder to kill? Not worth it? Are these locations just harder to get to when your sec status is low?
I'd really like to take part in this event in future and I'm trying to gather good intel & techniques this time round - as far as I can see, two SB fitted BSes could rack up the kills in the fields every 15 minutes... what am I overlooking? |

Bots don't provide delicious tears when they go boom so why would people go after them when they can go after real players who provide gallons of tears and entertainment.

Last I checked, prizes were awards for quantity of kills, not quality of tears.

Why are you alt posting on the forums about it, go blow them up. That is why they are still mining. Furthermore, people are either dumb, ignorant or simply don't care and mine anyway.
The Hulk is p much the most used ship out there so it's kind of hard to impact all of them. Also non euro/US timezone.
Also, why am I bothering to post in hulkageddon thread #9389002548097248907393 ~~~

That, or maybe half a dozen or so destroyers with good alpha. If you have the pilots, these would be far cheaper than 2 BS class ships.

Thanks for the replies but it still doesn't explain why the Macks are present in such great numbers in these systems - it's like the Macks are either harder to gank (doesn't make sense) or the systems that I see them in are hard to get to or hard to get resources to (doesn't make sense as Jita & low sec routes are nearby)... maybe Macks just taste bad?
To answer some of the questions/points:
- this is just a lowly pirating alt who has not yet received enough skill & isk love from their main to take part in the competition this year
- most people taking part in Hulkageddon seem to be doing it "professionally" meaning they're after raw points & kills rather than tears
-SBs would be preferred over dessies as they're usually in groups & it's "soloable" on a single machine |

why stop doing something just because people are trying to kill you.
Keep an eye on your DS and play aligned and your chances of being suicided at a belt are pretty low.
Though I have to admit looking at the killboard, clearly many many people dont do that.

Yes, this is a thread related to Hulkageddon - there is no way to ask my question without naming the event.
No it is not a whine - it is asking a valid question as to why some ice fields seem unaffected by the event. I honestly cannot understand why - it is a mystery to me and someone here with experience here must know why.
If you don't have anything to contribute to a thread, or don't like threads related to Hulkageddon, then maybe you shouldn't post in them and might instead enjoy sticking your fingers in your ears (or other bodily orifices) and going "LALALALA!!!" instead... it's super fun! |

it'd take too many people cleaning the ice belt, and it's not as cool if after you gank there's still 70 targets around, it's nice if the belt is clean after your murder.

A variety of factors can influence the state of the belt; proximity to a trade hub or lowsec acces points for beginners, also most serious competitors tend to focus on small areas near their own base of operations.
Not many people are willing to travel extended amounts just to gank some miners and go home; as belts thin out near their homes they sometimes become much more mobile; Phil Macmannon, last year's winner eventually moved shack several times to rack up his truly impressive kill count.

You don't know if the award if good or bad until you see the contents of the Iteron. It is designed to be a play on the old Eve meme, "OMG I R LEEVING EVE 4E!" "Can I have your stuff?" So, every Hulkageddon, some lucky pilot finally gets to hear a "Yes, you can have my stuff!" It's magical in a way.
I'd be surprised if people are actually trying to get hate mail anyway. The forums were being flooded with BAW two months before the first shot was fired. People take this game too seriously.
Also, speaking of BAW, my feelings have been hurt.

You have it all wrong - it is not that no one is ganking in these systems, it is that it takes literally less than 15 minutes for the bots to reship and get back to mining.

A secondary concern for the 'really full belts' is that CONCORD is already there from the last group of guys that attacked. They hang around for a while (an hour?) before they drift away. Not needing to warp in improves CONCORD's ability to quickly pop players, so they go for easier targets. This makes it a little more difficult for Geddon contestants to pick off the target.
Then again, the 'really full belts' are still spread out over 300+km of space.

Thanks for the replies all - am starting to see now that there's numerous small factors at work, all conspiring together to create what I'm seeing... will prepare well in advance next competition to take advantage of what most competitors seem not to taking advantage of this time round

Ah yes, this is something else I wanted to ask - it this actually true or is it an urban legend?
I've heard people some say that Concord being present makes no difference to a gank as they spawn for each incident and that a spawn from one incident will not attack the people involved in another incident.
The idea of Concord acting quicker if they're already there makes sense to me but I've heard equal amounts of people come out in favor of both ideas |

No, Macks are easier to kill typically not having the slots or cpu for any kind of tank. They are worth an excess of 100mill.
Here's the reason which is very simple: Ice belts are spread out and fairly rare by comparison to standard ore belts. Unless you are looking at a map that points them out, you will have a hard time finding them You already know where some are but many pvpers never bother to find them; they don't mine..
SO fewer Suicide gankers hit the ice belts. Not to say they are not being hit.. but there are a lot more gankers in regular belts because they are plentiful.

I killed hulk with t2 rigs in Mitsolen like 6 months ago, not sure about time frame. He unlocked another hulk with t2 rigs one or two minutes later.

Seen several 0.5 ice belts without concord in caldari space, patrolling them a few times a day...

Systems with ice belts are also clearly labeled on Ombeys 2D EVE maps. Can't imagine any pvp-er (any EVE player really) not being familiar with those.

Really? Why couldn't you imagine that. Yes, they can be found on the map ... but not everyone looks or knows there are printed maps available. Heck, not 25% of the pop even bothers to come to the forums. |

Personally, I doubt anyone is going after bots. Tears count more, as do expensive fits by people who think it's awesome to put Serpentis or Centii gear on their Hulks and Macks during Hulkageddon. There just isn't any fun in popping a bot. |

No, I'll tell you the simple truth that seems to WOOOOSH above some one else's heads: Hulkageddon in the end is:
1) PR / tears / blah blah 2) T2 Hulk BPO owners paradise. They seem to have formed a cartel as well but it's not sure info. 3) Many industrialists and miners who stocked early paradise.
I won't talk about 1) because I can't care the less of people e-gasming on a hi sec industrial popping.
Point 2) instead is quite noticeable, if you look at prices they have boomed, even those forced to invent exhumers (vs having the BPO) are making some money ATM.
Point 3) is your topic. Many people - me included - generate lots of minerals / ice etc because they mission or AFK mine etc. Despite the latter (mining) is so poor ISK per hour, it's AFK-ness over many hours make money pile up enough that even losing 1 Hulk a day is not a big loss. Bots are created to pile up money over a long term, killing 1, 2 or even 10 ships is worthless to stop them. In these days it's even better, every mined cycle in these days is worth 30% more than the rest of the year. This is why you'll find happy bots in the face of this initiative: it is not relevant. Even when not botting, it's still not going to affect a lot. You'll lose like 4-5 ships a year but earn several billions. - Auditing & consulting
