CCP you have made a very costly mistake today which i think will have repercussions for quite along time. You have grown as a company so fast you have lost touch with the players of this game. Alot of people didnt want a new avatar picture to start with they wanted fixs to the game already or more engaging content but instead you created this useless 0.5GB 'Patch' that the whole player base will use once per character but you created it with stupidly powerful graphics which people just dont have so cant enjoy how good the pictures look anyway!
You need to sack whoever agreed on the amount of detail on the new avatars! Yes you have said that this patch is paving the way towards Incarna but you have gone about it all wrong only keeping in mind the real Hardcore gamers that will have the graphics cards to use this new feature without sacrificing performance and all the award you will win for how good it looks. I think the playerbase has a duty to knock you down off your high horse and bring you back down to earth!
If you need proof that you messed up just read the comments on here i looked through 5 pages and people dont like what you have done at all! i cant comment on the sansha bit yet but i seriously hope more thought has gone into that than the avatars.

Entire Character Creation System looks rushed and generally unpolished
Character Creation :
1. No Black Hair.
2. COLOSSAL lack of clothing. (Are we going to have to pay real money to look good? Nice little earner CCP.) Do you want this shirt or.... this shirt?
3. Character Creator seems to be a body sculpting utility and little else. Alteration of all body parts is fluid and flawless. Only problem is we HAVE to dress them, thus we HAVE to look awful.
4. The guy I am trying to edit WILL NOT HOLD STILL.
5. Skin alterations including age/freckles/scars ONLY EFFECTS THE FACE. If we can see the neck of an unblemished twelve year old on an eighty year old man something is dangerously wrong.
Reccomended : DO NOT UPDATE YOUR CHARACTER - Wait until they fix it (Being released in another two years?)
CCP : Making ingame avatars more important in gameplay whilst also utterly limiting player choice in variation and style.
COMMIT TO EXCELLENCE. STOP RELEASING UNFINISHED CONTENT.
When you say black hair. what are you referring to exactly? I'm certain I had the option available to me in Beta; though, it may not be available for everyone, due to differences in racial traits.
Yes, I thought it was odd, the lack of consistency; with the skin complexion from face to body. I'm also aware, that you'll never see it on your character portrait; not in game at least. It might be noticeable from the login screen.
2 shirts? I'm pretty sure there are a lot more than that. So you don't like the clothing available; and you think it looks stupid? Have you noticed, that you have options to change the tuck of your shirts and pantlegs? Probably not.. I didn't see it the first time either. little arrows with 1-4 options for shirt to pants; and 1-2 options, for pants, to boots.
By the way, it's only visible from the chest up, as before; so it doesn't really matter at this stage anyway. In 6 month's, it may matter; but not before I think.
So he doesn't hold still? Who cares! Now you know how a barber feels. They're animated characters; not lumps of rock.
How did your characters avatar become more important in game? When they release Incarna, sure. This, is not Incarna; it is Incursion. Pre-Incarna, it's just a portrait; kind of like on your passport, or Drivers License. Think of it as your Pod-Pilot's License picture; so we know who the bad guy's are.
If you can't stop whining, shut it.

If you'd been paying attention to CCP's release notes, Dev Blog's, and the rest; you'd know that the portraits do little to affect your ingame performance. They're entirely inanimate, are server side; and are delivered through CCP's Content Delivery Service. They have also been reduced in actual detail; so they don't test your GPU, or cause your game to lag.
Sure, the Character Creater itself, might test your GPU; but you have settings for that. Use them. Your portrait might not be awesome, due to reduced graphical settings, used in the creation of your avatar; but you'll never notice, and likely, many people with the systems to handle it, won't either.

After installing patch i immediately saw that every 30 seconds the CPU-throttle goes down (seen on my Logitech G-15 Keyboard) while at the same time the game screen hangs for two seconds. This happens nonstop and also in the Stations (exept in the start-screen for login, after login by the character-choose and in the in-game menu for gaphics/audio-settings). This is not good. My System is fine, if needed i can upload my specs. To mention is that i havent re-created my charcter yet, who knows maybe could have association. testing lower resolution and graphics detail...no difference.

But i was going to make my guy look like some uppercut, long haired narcissist...but that failed, cause all the "business suit" type options failed and there is no long haired option for the Gallente besides what appears to be dreadlocks. Good character gen, but poor options to choose from.
EDIT- If you release more options for the character gen, you'd best let everyone change their avatar again or **** will hit the fan all over again.

So many issues I don't know where to begin tbo, character creation will def need some improving and "grace period" should mean a period of time in which we can continue to change our avatar multiple times if needed.... current once only change is epic fail given how bare bones the options available are, and the crappy results they tend to produce
And speaking of epic fail...PI is biggest fail change i think i have ever seen in a game this far. I was able to extract all mineral types available on a planet before without having to change my setup for weeks, now that is impossible without a complete reconfig at the end of cycles/programs. PI changes mean all planets will need to be rebuilt and, major changes will be required at regular (daily) intervals in order to gather multiple resource types on same planet. The only thumbs up is the upgrade option to main facility. The rest of the PI changes are hugely problematic and will continue to be on a daily basis. I honestly find it hard to believe these changes are made by people who actually use PI at all. Epic fail! epic fail, epic fail....can i say it enough...i dont think so

They all suck. I approve. Yeah. The situation in kind of messed up, but the character rendering looks great imo. More clothing options could have been added etc etc, the biggest thing I'm bothered by is the fact that basically we were told we'd have a week to edit our toon but at the last second a note was added in saying that we'd just have a week to MAKE our toon and that we couldn't change it afterwards.

I made my character in hi-res, then dropped it to lo-res so I knew it wouldn't look stupid and so it wouldn't have taken forever on my laptop. But seriously, do I need to do something to make the pic show correct resolution, and are other people seeing me in hi-res?
EDIT: Never mind, it shows correctly now. With completely jacked-up shading.
Sigh.

Originally by: Airyn Farscape I would like to even be able to create my character. I have been waiting on a black screen for 20 minutes. I have a decent graphics card and could play the game just fine, but won't load the Creator. Same for my husband who has an Nvidia 9800, so yeah. Definitely fail :(
Press Escape and set a new display size, this should correct the issue; but I am unsure for how long as each time I restarted the client the issue would occur again, but the TQ client seems to not have inherited this.
In any case there were petitions made about this issue, what kinda irritates me about sending a petition to CCP about something that is bugged on SiSi is you always get the same "We are aware of the problem" message. At times this makes playtesting feel more of a case (atleast for those of us outside of the special programs) a simple case of "previewing" rather than helping to make the client better prior to release.
While no doubt there are in-house testers, honestly either they're incompetant, using identical rigs or are being guided to strictly to fully test features.
On the same matter, now that the Character Creator has been released I have to say that I am incredibly disappointed; but not from the stand-point that it is a poor creator suite. Instead from the basic standpoint that with the exception of performance it has not changed in the past month. One of the main concerns many of us had was the lack of variety in hair-style and clothes...
Now while you can argue that clothes do not matter as much until further Incarna features are released (likely in the next expansion, given the timetable that has been hinted at in CSM briefing releases) the fact remains that the initial hair-styles and glasses (well should be accessories) aspects that are very prodominant on portaits were incredibly limited in number compared to the old system. What makes matters even worse is sometime between the last SiSi update a week ago and Release, someone decided on even more limitations by making certain hairstyles ONLY available to specific races.
I personally was happy with my look on SiSi, only to discover that because of my Race & Bloodline choice that all of the long/medium length hair was unavailable. Having gone through every race/bloodline variant I've noticed that absolutely NO NEW CONTENT has been added for 2months. Again on SiSi I don't think anyone testing, I mean I certainly didn't feel this was an issue as we weren't reviewing the system for how many options there were in total available but rather expected that much of the media was either withheld or still in-production as was the case in the first month.
Had I known that there would be so little in the way of customisation in terms of hair-styles and to a lesser degree clothing and accessories, then I would have probably been MUCH more vocal about the sheer lack of content that honestly for a system that we can only use ONCE then have to PAY to alter later honestly is unacceptable.
Do our Characters appear much better? Yeah they do, they look absolutely fantastic; but as Character Artist myself I know full well that adding something as simple as an additional hair-style at most 2 days of work with the majority of that spent painting normal maps and diffuse textures. Especially given that optimisation for real-time rendering is current not a major issue and can be dealt with at a later period of time, thus cutting out a very time consuming task that should be dealt with manually unlike has been the case with the ships that have utilise polygon reduction tools; as a way of maintaining the high level of quality that the product strives for with the High-Quality media.
Sorry but while the level of quality of work is amazing, if as a company you are going to maintain charging people to recreate their characters there needs to be enough customisation present; atleast equal to what we had in the original character system!

It is a common thing on all forums for the angry minority to also be the very vocal minority ... People who are happy with the new charactor creator are just going to be playing the game... The unhappy peeps are the ones posting on here... generally speaking.
Personally I love the new avatars! Even if mine has turned out look like a 70 year old Cpt. Jainway! Though I do agree a bit more choice in terms of clothing and accessories would be nice... The PI changes are really good too, took a bit of getting used to... and I can see it causing a lot of issues for people who try and extract more than two resources on a planet... but otherwise I think its a great improvement.
Loving the small UI tweaks as well, the 'change session' swirly icon thing is a great idea.
Good Work CCP

Thats not lag bud, thats your machine not handling the level of detail ... lower your graphics settings and you'll be fine. There are seperate settings specifically for the charactor creator.

If you can't run the character creator you need to upgrade. The character creator runs flawless on my $500 system. Computers are cheap to make now a days you have no excuse. You can always buy one part one month buy another the next.
While the character creator does not have a lot of options. It runs fine. You people that complain about FPS seriously need new hardware and need to learn how to maintain a computer.

I can't change it later and what if I liked the first or second one I took better than the last one. Why can I take four pictures if only one is considered?!
Also, why is it when I choose clothing I don't choose a style and then color. Instead there are like 3-4 different styles, each with maybe 2-3 different predetermined color combination, none of which I like.
Like how picture load automatically and quickly for characters in chat window now, instead of having to click them on-demand.
