We deliberately made it complicated so as to be able to easily identify lazy/stupid people, and then suffocate them. . All generalisations are false - Discuss.

English is supposed to be one of the hardest languages to learn.
Speaking four languages, I'd say english was definitely the easiest to learn.
Same here (well meanwhile my french is so crap i wouldnt say i speak it anymore, also my german isnt that great). My native language (dutch) is pretty hard to get since it is filled with exceptions without any logic behind them. English however has very easy grammar rules and not too many exceptions. You can just use "the" always, instead of the french with le and la, dutch with de and het, and not to mention the germans who got too many to remember. Regular verbs only have two forms, either with s behind it or without, etc.
I am still in favour of just removing Dutch and switching to English, but it is hard to get a majority for that.

I find it strange that ppl. would use the neutral pronoun to refer to a baby yet they often refer to ships in the feminine e.g., the ship and her crew.
I also like this classic:
"Why do we drive on the parkway and park on the driveway?"
You need to be relaxed for this: Linkage
"Why is it that kidnapping is a federal offense, while catnapping is merely an enjoyable pastime?"

Why is it strange? I find your lack of reasoning powers disturbing. A baby is neutral because it's not yet a person, it's a safeguard against expected infant death, if and when it pulls through it gets assigned a gender and name. A perfectly sound approach to me.

I'm guessing from your previous posts that you're prolife too, spending all your time naming your semen. I think you will find a different approach to babies in countries where infant death is high, as it was in the western world once.

One is born, the other isn't, a prematurely born fetus is still called a baby but it's neither here nor there. My point being that parents and those other people involved in the baby delivery has long had a detached view on the fragile newborn, they have to as to not be crushed if/when it 'expires', hence the neutral term.
It's the same principle that applies to most human relations, you don't go and tell someone you love them on a first date even if you're stricken with more love arrows than Custer, you just don't put yourself out there as completely on something that fragile.
You can but this doctor advice on a gradual buildup of emotions as the little thing proves itself a fighter and worthy of praise.

I must say this is one of the best threads I have seen(scene) on here in a while. I must(not yet mead) point(ouch) out that English is a lingua franca and has been adopted, adapted by many peoples in many continents(incontinent) to be able to communicate. Far more people can speak different versions of English and be understood than people who speak versions of Spanish. If you don't like English or have problems speaking it then do what so many others have done and adapt it to your needs. English is unpretentious, you can mangle it to your heart's desire and other's will be able to understand the gist of what you say. Think of it as the language for the common man and enables someone with little education to learn.

One of the best explanations of English I've heard is a Welshman speaking German in a French accent to a Dane. It's a total bastard mongrel language and I love it. It's so easy to say something and have two totally different meanings (or to bend the truth a little). We spent a thousand years being invaded by most of Western Europe, waited awhile, and then went and invaded other countries so we could steal their words. Also, purely to add to the flame, we're English, in England, speaking English, our spelling takes priority . (Unless you're Scottish, in Scotland, speaking Scots, which is a different kettle of fish completely). ""

As OP pointed out, there are so many exceptions they actually should be the rule.
