The size of an eve cruiser is on par with a contemporary cruiser, and a battleship is the size of a aircraft carrier. Which is pretty big, sure. The capitals are huge though.

Originally by: Ohanka to all those who are saying eve Battleships are comparable in size to modern day aircraft carriers, sorry, but this is simply false.
a Modern Day US Navy Aircraft Carrier (namely the Nimitz Class) is around 330 Meters long, and has about 6000 Crewmen.
an Eve Battleship on Average is about a 1000-1800 meters long, the exceptions are the Caldari Scorpion and Raven, these ships have about 5000-7000 Crew.
however EvE Cruisers are comparable in size to a modern day aircraft carrier, and have about 500-850 Crew.
these ships are not overcrewed.
(there was a chart on the internet with exact measurements of the eve ships in length, but i can't find it.)
Pretty much. Battleships have about the same mass as a modern carrier, even though they're ten times larger ù cruisers, while the same size, are off in terms of mass by the same factor of 10+, but hey, scifi space materials and all that.
and the like:
There are stats given on ship sizes- both mass and volume. I calculated it out, and the numbers given for mass and volume for a Domi equate quite closely with, for example, the USS Enterprise (aircraft carrier in service).
Enterprise: Mass: about 85,983,876 kg loaded weight Volume: around 401,679 m3 (342m long, 40.5m wide @ waterline, ~29m high draft + flight deck height)
Dominix: 97,100,000 kg 454,500 m3
Figures computed using in-game model sizes are.... well, do you really think the #1 priority of their art department is getting scale exactly right? They just want to make everything look pretty and impressive.
As to ships being overcrewed.... I was thinking about it, and consider: People regularly take their ships and go off to unpopulated areas (0.0/wormholes/etc) which would be somewhere between difficult and impossible to resupply. They then set up POSes, go mining, and use those structures and materials to create more ships. Those new ships would then need crews as well.
With this in mind: Battleships have crews of, what, like 6000 according to lore? Let's say the minimum crew compliment was actually like 200 or so- This would make it actually quite reasonable to pack as many people into the ship as possible; you fly those 6,000 people out to a wormhole and then proceed to build a carrier and 5 replacement battleships in case you die: now you're gonna be getting pretty close to minimum crew compliment per ship. Given how much wealth even poor capsuleers tend to make, it'd be reasonable to figure that payroll costs are pretty much completely negligible and they only care about being able to conveniently do... just about whatever they want to. *** Wish list for PI:
