Just so you know, CCP: it's only a fairly small % of people who have this mental disability that means they cannot tolerate asymmetry. The rest of us have no problem with it. No need to mess up all the ships, just to cater to a small group of people with a broken brain. Ta. --

I hate the new scorp model. I don't see how the new scorpion is supposed to appeal to caldari pilots at all. Why don't you start off with a ship you don't have a chance of screwing up even more i.e. the moa.

Originally by: Herr Wilkus I mean, WTF. What is this ****? Ships have to literally look like their namesake now? Sounds like you are just appealing to the WOWtards out there. "Wah, my ship doesn't look anything like a Scorpion"
It is goddam offensive, thats what it is.
So for an encore, we are going to turn the Raven into a fricken 'bird of prey' now? Why stop there?
Feeble minded bull ****, CCP.
Because Aesthetics originated in World of Warcraft.
Lol. Also Causality originated in the movie the matrix reloaded.

Im torn, the old one was not that great looking but i really hate ships that look like they were designed to look like something else. Military design is functional before pretty, imagine if the tiger tank would actually look like a.. tigerą

Ships that are named after actual animals should probably be designed with the animal in mind. You can't really shape something into a Vexor or a Zealot though, so if this bothers you that much, try flying one of the 3 races that doesn't use animals as names.
And the raven does look like a bird.
And the scorpion always looked like a scorpion, they just streamlined it.
Idiot.

IF you're gonna complain about a Caldari boat being ugly the only possible ship you should be referring to is the Moa. The Moa is from a statistics standpoint a very interesting boat (and a great gas miner) but it is so....GAAAHH!
It looks like a CCP designer had a concept, didnt like it, crumbled up the concept into a paper ball, missed throwing it in the bin and then looked at the ball unwrapping itself and thought...'saaaayyyyy!'.
Just mix some parts of the Ferox, Caracal and Rokh and you got a great new model for the Moa.

I have to agree with the OP. the scorp looks like it was designed to look like it's name. not named because it looks like a scorpion.
I also like the old model better.
But i am in the miniority. would still be nice if some ships used that model.

New scopion model is cool. Leave it be.
Updated Raven model is "ok" looking, but could look a little less like it was designed by some angle mad architect. All caldari ships pretty much fall into that category. Look at ships from Aliens for an example of how Caldari SHOULD look. Yes they are industrial.. yes they are grey and sort of 'purpose built', but they still look bad ass. The Rokh got that look right, for instance. So did the Transports.
Helios is DAMN ugly. That Imicus hull is worthless. Get rid of it NOW. Please. It hurts my sensibilities just knowing its out there somewhere. ---

Problem with new scorp is that it's designed to look like a scorpion.
That's not how you build military hardware.
You make a blueprint and build the ****. Then someone says: "Hmm. That kinda looks like a tiger/scorpion/leopard". Named.
What military design is not: "Ooh I want a ship called a raven, build me something that looks like one."
In short. Old scorp; awesome even though ugly. New scorp; completely lame, even though it looks like sex on wings. ----------- Why is it called common sense, when it's clearly very rare.
I had a mind once, but alas, I seem to have forgotten where I left it.

Edited by: Ehdward on 27/11/2010 07:25:50 The problem with EVE's asymmetric and ugly ships is that there is no obvious function being followed by the form. If an engineer has to pick between two arbitrary designs, one aesthetically pleasing and one that looks like really bad post-modern art, all things being equal it seems like they'd choose the former.
Also, the Raven already looks like both a bird and a Klingon Bird of Prey. Scale the wings down and point them down rather than horizontally. Is it really just me that sees this?
Also again, who says someone can't purposely make a ship look like something? Are you the boss of Caldari State? Besides, for all you know, the dude designing the Raven was like "hey, this is starting to look very bird like. Let's go with that in the next prototype. And let's name it Raven because mythological Earth creatures are cool."

Personally, i would like the Raven to get a remake that resembles more of a "Klingon 'Bird of Prey'" type ship.
Theres already a Caldari Cruiser that looks close to a Klingon BoP. Don't need a BS to.
i was thinking more romulan war bird... since they both use micro singularities to power thier ships...

Why people still replying to the OP's troll.. The Scorpion looks fantastic right now, it used to suck before..
Not my opinion but the opinion of actual players not eft/forum dwellers, only problem is its use.. would rahter fly it than a raven..

I like the asymmetry of Caldari ships. It is part of the reason I chose to go Caldari in the first place (along with missiles and EWAR). The Scorpion, as sexy as that beast is now, is lacking some of the charm of the first one. I think a modernization of the first model would have been preferable to the new model, but I can't blame anyone for thinking that thing was ugly as hell.
