Edited by: EdTeach on 13/11/2010 22:11:54 Once I got my tank down, I turned to acquiring T2 missile launchers.
Get the skill to 5, get the spec skill to 4 and be good to go.
But nooooo...
To make the majority of my fits transfer directly from T1/Faction to T2 weapons and not have to move anything else I need a little skill called...
Advanced Weapon Upgrades 5
Not 3, not 4 ... 5.
Now I could throw in a 3% 'wire to make up for the difference, but my slots are full of other things that I have become used to having. Trading a low for a Power Diag is fun for a few a fits as well, but I want a clean upgrade.
I am not complaining at all. It was a beautiful piece of calculation on CCP's part. If you want it bad enough you do the time to go from 4 to 5. I did.
At least it covers every T2 weapon I will ever train.
Someone at CCP give the guy who did that a cookie, and then slap him once for me.
-----
EDIT --- Oh Yeah ... and for extra epic HTFU ... the skill is located where? GUNNERY. WTF would a shield-tanking missile monkey like myself be doing even looking there very often? Golf clap again to that.

First in a glorious emo thread.
Welcome to EVE.
FYI Adv Weapons Upgrades is just as important as Energy Managment 5 everyone should have it.

Where would someone of your High Intellectual Prowess place a skill like "Weapon Upgrades" and "Advanced Weapon Upgrades"?
Seeing as
Beams == Gunnery Pulses == Gunnery Auto cannons == Gunnery Artillery == Gunnery Blasters == Gunnery Rails == Gunnery
Yet:
Guided Missiles != Gunnery Unguided Missiles != Gunnery
Please do expand our minds with your great knowledge.

Electronics and Engineering respectively, with all the other CPU and PG related core skills.
Edit, on topic: There is an amazing number of fits that just won't fit with sub-optimal skills. You have the option of skilling for a month (AWU V isn't that bad), getting a stupidly expensive implant, or breaking the fit by doing something like two lower-tier guns. ___________

AWU5 is worth it, as a full rack of weapons uses more PG then what any other "upgrade" skill reduces from a few shield or random mid slot modules will take up. Though the constant more training, more training, more training, to fit overbloated module requirements on ships with small fitting requirements is annoying when some T2 modules offer superior stats over faction items until you factor in those faction have 1/3 less the fitting requirements. Think I got at least a month when I get around to training all the other upgrade skills in Electronics and Engineering to 5

Edited by: Sakura Shiro on 14/11/2010 04:12:38 Edited by: Sakura Shiro on 14/11/2010 04:11:51 why ship are you trying to fit and what fit are you looking to try? T2 launchers is soo vague, ship and launcehr might help to give you a fit to get you full t2 weapons. If trying to do a sb full t2, don 't waste your time for example. Fire torps, drop bomb, warp out. 4 or 5 skill level it don't matter, you won be using rof of t2...it also won't fit well with cloak and bomb launcher.
Have you looked at ACR rigs? Some ships need them even at AWU 5...rokh comes to mind.

I wasn't being sarcastic or whining.
I actually sorta like it when something like this is that well thought out. It was a surprise to be sure, but nothing unbearable.
My Raven, Navy Scorp and Drake all needed AWU5 to fit their full allotments of T2 weapons, either short or long range, without altering the fits.
I still keep all my sets of Navy launchers on hand just in case I need some other PG hungry module on one of my fits.
It was a bit of a hunt to find the missing skill when I first started the EFT warrior deal with T2s. Then I remembered to check the 'change affecting skill' tab.
taa daa.
This was more of an off-hand way of reminding folks that AWU5 is a good thing to slap in the plan once the trek to T2 weapons is on. Better to read it here than get the weapons and get all flustered because they won't fit. :)

Unless you're planning on using the t2 missiles or going into PvP where you can't afford to lose the pricey faction launchers, its actually better for a number of reasons to stick to some of the faction ones. They fit easier and have better RoF making for more dps in most cases.

AWU 5: get it done. As you have correctly inferred, it opens up some sweet fits.

AWU 5 is really helpful skill and u'll have to train it eventually to cram those tight fits anyway, so why not train it now? I've had few fits that require AWU 5, shield upgrades 5 and still a 5% pg implant.

Advanced Weapon Upgrades 5 is not required for loads of fittings and most of the time you can even work around the lack of this skill by using faction items.
Good to have yes, essential not really.
EvE is all about compromises and if you want to minimize those, you are required to pay with long training times for lvl 5 skills and/or expensive implants.

It's actually impressive just how often the Right Fit for a ship requires AWU5. It looks like such a marginal and over-priced skill at first glance, but the designers really made it count. The CPU balancing is more random, but that's to be expected, because there's more variation in the mods and it's harder to predict which of the one-pg mods people will choose.
Case in point, my preferred fits for the Raven, Drake, and Manticore all require AWU5 or an implant. That's impressive, since those are the only ships I especially care about at this time.

I get by with AWU III. Just train Minmatar, you get the feeling the ships have been designed around the optimal fits, and not vice-versa. It's amazing how often you get a "perfect" fit with less than AWU 5.

Yet another very fine reason for AWU5, especially for us Caldari PvE folks.
With my current remap I believe it was just a tad over 20 days to get from 4 to 5.
Good to see others have the same outlook on AWU5, and making their favorite fits work with any weapons. EFT may not tell the whole story on fits, but it sure helps in some areas. I would have been one flustered missile monkey without EFT to point me to the gunnery section. It had been a lonnngg time since i got Weap Upgrade5.
