I have spent a fair amount of time coming up with these designs and I'm fairly confident that they look reasonable good.
Orbital bombardment platforms are sub-capital ships that resemble dreadnought in their size. They are completely defenceless against attacks and are used to fill a single role, the orbital bombardment and destruction of planet based colonies. In no particular order -
For the caldari.
The ya'kora
The ya'kora is the pinnacle of missile based warfare, with an outstanding ability to hit ground based targets with pin point accuracy through all known types of atmosphere with deadly efficiency. Although the ya'kora does not have the firepower of its counterparts, it makes up for the short fall by the pure accuracy of its weapons systems. The ya'kora is the only orbital bombardment platform that can fire its weapons while moving and does not need to be facing its target to do so.
For the minmittar -
The chieftain
The chieftain holds the record for the largest weapon in relation to its mass, the size of its single barreled artillery cannon is matched only by titan class dooms day devices. The ship is effectively one large gun rapped in a thick layer of armor with some thrusters attached.
There is a common joke about the accuracy of the chieftain, "you're perfectly safe from the chieftain, as long as you are standing exactly where it is aiming". That said not many people are stupid enough to stick around to test this theory, as when the chieftain dose land a hit on a target, there is not much left afterwards.
For the Amarrians -
The overlord
Utilizing the same technology as the avatar class titan, the overlord is a feared by its enemies, although when it comes down to the actual logistics, the ship is slow to fire and has very week defense systems.
For the gallentie -
The Liberator
Large and slow, this beast of a ship is equipped with four large railguns capable of firing off a round every 30 seconds each with the enough force to cripple even the most resilient structures. It might be an ugly giant, but it still commands respect.
I hope you like these ideas, please let me know what you think and show your support for them in the contest

Battleships and/or dreads should be workable just fine for this. And now for something completely different! It's BearCare's Flying Signature. |

Ok i will give you that the liberator might not be working, but the ya'kora and the chieftain look good (it might be because you cant see them in 3d like i can since i had to take pictures, maybe i should upload them in video format?).

I like the idea and the description. Also subcap would be better then cap when it comes to hisec warfare and mobility. the models however do need significant work.
in brief. Great idea with great descriptions. The models however should be done by someone who knows how to do a good job on them. Perhaps the guy who designed the light carriers would be so obliging.

That was done in 3dmax, this was done in google sketchup. 3dmax takes x10 longer, yes it does look better but i am yet to find the time.
But thanks for your input.

Excuses, excuses.
1) Sketchup may be limited, but I've seen people do MUCH better work with it. You're just using the "flaws" of the program as an excuse for why you don't have to put any effort into making your work not suck.
2) Good 3d art takes time (though not nearly as much as you think, unless you are "yet to find the time" to spend an hour on a model). Either spend the time (IOW, more than the 15 minutes shown here) and do it right, or don't whine when people call your work trash. -----------

Merin you obviously know nothing about 3d design and pretending that you do just makes you look even more pathetic.

Which is why it took me less than an hour to duplicate (and even improve on) your "work" on that bridge for your fake movie, to the point that you took down your screenshots in shame?

Dear Merin, In in any thread about something Joe Poehnix is involved, and you are not, one of the first people to post something is you! Something i find rather kind of you! Always nice to get people to notice one's acomplishments and ideas! But you just can't tipe a single, god damn nice word! I always read your insults and idiotic arguements about why Joe's stuff sucks, but I've never seen anything from you but just that! I have to aggree with you on one thing...the ammarian and gallentine desings didn't look like much! But there are other ways to tell people that! But as a Master in forum-trolling you probably have to get down to a level of conciense where you become a social incompatible, low minded nutjob of epic measures! If you would actually come up with some creativ and constructiv arguments i would happiely talk about them with you! But just poping in something like "They suck" or calling somebody a liar, is ****ing me of beyond believe!
PS: Just get lost man!

Ok i am going to spend the time doing them in 3D max, might take some time but it will look better. (the liberator and maybe the overlord are getting re-designed).

Edited by: Varidicus on 07/10/2010 23:05:02 I like the idea, i think there is a need for this with Tyrannis, atleast until Dust comes out.
I was thinking maybe a special one-use weapon (like a moon probe but much bigger) that will clear the planet of all structures and keep the resources intact might be a little more suitable than a ship with only 1 role and no defenses though, just my opinion. |

Edited by: Gibbo3771 on 07/10/2010 23:07:15 Those are horrific really.
They just look boring and made up of basic shapes reshaped, hell that overlord one looks like an umbrella.
All you have basically done is grab the faces of a basic rectangle and extracted more faces from it to make random segmants, just plain boring.
I can picture the basic shapes you have there, done professionally and still dont like the look of what I am imagining relative to the theme of the races and ship class you have made up.
:) Harsh but yeah
tl;dr Models suck, idea sucks. Back to the drawing board

Alot more work went into it then what you give me credit for. These 2D pictures do not give it credit, i will have to post it in a 3D format so you can see all the cool details.

A single iron charge from a 425 railgun would level a reasonably sized modern city. A few volleys from a megathron would take out every major city in North America (assuming megathrons were real, in any case). A dreadnaught or titan could probably crack the crust of the average terrestrial planet. We really don't need a specialized ship for it, even if it were something ccp wanted to have us do. Plus those are some of the ugliest ships I've ever seen.

@ Joe, keep trying, those images are not great in my opinion. first thing you should do though is get something decent to model with. There are heaps of packages on market used for rapid prototype designing. Throw some colour on it to start showing details better and then render it. Play around with it for a while. To design one ship and get decent results I would expect you to be spending around 16 to 24 hours on a model. That should net some pretty damn good results
Don't worry i'm already on it
