to ALEJANDRO: Well put....seriously. Well put. Especially about the effort put into those Chronicles (which I don't even read anymore)
to DEOVINA: "Sucks" is such a strong word!
212? Well, try kicking it up a notch to a whopping 230, and toss a lil' Cruise Missile out your back tube while you window shop. It works!
Oh yes...... YARRRRRR !!!!!!

I have done quite a few lvl 3 DS missions, I haven't tried a lvl 4, yet.
I like the challenge, I hate the fact missions are now a time sink instead of a career. I don't use the word "hate" lightly, here. The time wasted approaching the gate is really getting to me worse and worse. When I have to warp out and crawl back through several of them - that can hardly be called fun.
Maybe the gates should expand the range from which they can be activated after the last NPC and structure has been destroyed, or summin?
Anyway, all in all, I think missions are more fun now. It's just the time and the lack of financial reward that need bit more work.

My honest opinion will get me banned from the forums if not from eve so we'll try not to be too harsh. You all know how them dammm new yorkers can be..... almost worst than them bostononians.
let see how to state it so i won't.
For lvl 3 and below.......
Stupid
Redonkulous
Time sinked
Waste of EVE time.
Can make more ISK Apoc strip mining in safe space.
Can make more ISK for cycling belts as fast as possible killing all rats and not looting one can in a 0.2 security system.
Going to cut out a large large portion of people expendable ISK so manufacturers will sell less goods overall.
Miners will sell less mins due to less finsh goods sold.
Less tech two components even with moon mining which is also a waste with it's yeild thus making T2 items to cost way more than now
Implants will go through the roof more so than they already are. can you say 100mill each.
I'm not saying all income earned around eve is mission related but with how large a market us mission running specific character put into the market was a good thing.
And to limit something that probably over a quarter of the eve populous does for their eve income just can not be a good thing.
I myself am looking at about 1/10th of the income i've grown acustomed to for the past 1.5 years.
I tell you if my mission agent carreer does not come back in some fashion......neither will my characters.
from day one that's what i've done and over 90% of my total eve time has been devoted to just that.
from my eye......unacceptable at best.

wow, allot of responses, thx guys, i have read most of it, and id like to add a few things/summerary.
if read a few times about BM the cans and getting a fast frig or something to collect the cans..this might be possible in DS mission withouth a special gate u have to use, but those that have that gate, bm wont work, u will just end up at the gate.
the difficultiy: yes it has increased but this might be fun if u would have a DS mission one's every 40 normal missions.
unfair: the rats have far to big advantages, first of all, they dont seem to be affected by that natural phenomonem. And the stupid gate sometimes warps u staigt in between 3 elite frigs.
conclusion: make the DS less common, make them worth the risc and time invested.Do something about those special warp gates ,they only cost time, and make the fight rather unfair, im attacking i wanne decide the range i warp in, not some stupid gate.
Might have forgotten something but this is how i think about it right now.

"All the posters that hate DS missions seem to not know how to put a ship together right. BOOHOO cry me a river. A maller can do a 4/10 solo and probably a 5/10 as well. It just takes a long time to do.... but hey thats where the actuall fun lies... in completion of a hard task."
If a game of whack-a-mole takes two hours to complete, the time requirement alone doesn't make the game hard. It just makes it drawn out.
And activity that requires many hours of your time doesn't automagically become fun due to time requirement. It actually works the other way around -- we are willing to spend hours on repeating a task if it's fun and if single round doesn't take long to complete. But when you are forced to spend hours to see end of something, the fun factor actually suffers.
The threshold when it's too long to be fun anymore is different for everyone -- personally, i find lvl.1 combat missions fun, lvl.2 open space is still fun, lvl.2 deadspace takes too much time. lvl.3 anything combat-related is where i draw the line... because pitting me against series of 4-5 spawns doesn't make it any more difficult than making me face one spawn, it just takes 4-5 times as long to complete. And am not going to even bother with lvl.4 for the same reason.... --;;

Other than the typical flamers just trying to make themselves look so smart, I think everyone agrees for the most part. CCP has gone way too far with the amount of time that these missions are demanding now.

Edited by: greenhornet on 15/12/2004 06:58:50 I was liking the new deadspace lvl 4 missions pretty well until I warped from a gate landed ontop of(10km away) 3 bs all named,25 frigs,12-15 cruzers and 6 sentry 3's lag was so bad couldn't even warp out before my raven went up.Up to that point hadn't got any loot from any of the bs just cap charges.Has anyone killed the last part of the pirate extravaganza mission, battlestation? What does it drop?I had 2 bs and nomatter if u had 10 u would have lost atleast 1-2 before u killed it,is it worth the risk or not?

Are they worth the risk? Certainly not the isk. It wouldn't be so bad except that you get no reward for killing the drones other than access to the next jump gate. No isk nor even sec rating increase. And certainly lag becomes a BIG issue, on each occaision I tried to warp when it became obvious that my armour tanking wasn't up to the task (usually around 40%) and by the time my ship had even engaged warp I was dead. Considering that the monetary reward was less and the faction loyalty bonus no greater than a simple courier mission, I certainly think that they need rejigging. [ |

I think that you do not have to kill the respawns to get access to next level or to finish the mission. I have at least had several missions that journal says are finished and while picking loot cans new rats still spawn.
Btw. Completed all L3 DS missions so far in my Caracal.

Originally by: Alejandro Zapata Edited by: Alejandro Zapata on 14/12/2004 20:41:26 The problem with Lvl 3 Deadspace is not difficulty, they all can be done in a cruiser or battlecruiser. So peeps need to understand that just because they can't do it in their Raven, doesn't mean everyone else rushed to a Battleship and can't use a cruiser or battlecruiser effectively to kill NPCs.
I feel that was aimed at me. Just to clear up some misunderstandings, I'm not a typical raven pilot. I'm not a typical fighter. I'm an allrounder. I have however, focused on gallente ships, though with the mwd nerf in deadspace, I had to switch ships. I mean, why bring 7 different guns to deal with the rats, when you can fit 6 launchers that takes everything on every range? My skills is also focused on armor tanking and blasters, though the basic skills also applies to other bs's. I usually do missions in an armor tanked brutix with electron blasters. Which makes the most level 3 missions not too hard.
The silence the informant mission did surprise me with it's drones on the first ds pocket. That's why I had to warp out the first time (I did however, have enough cap and no armor damage. I just wanted to be on the safe side.) Surprise is often a good tactic to defeat someone, and this was no exception. The second time I did it, I had no problem at all. Though the rest of the mission was dissapointing with weak rats and the usual long distances.
I have no problem with the new deadspace missions. They were great the first couple of times I did them. But after them for the third fourth... 9th and so on, it's no difference from doing the other missions. If only there were more missions on destroying different structures like the damsel mission.
I really look forward to more missions and the ab upgrade. It will be a relief.
