Aggro timers are fine but the session changes and waiting time has to be shortened. Is their a hardware restriction (server side) that causes the long wait? I know it's not client side because my hardware surpasses requirements. Or is this ingame for balance issues, so you can't change ships to fast or something?
I showed one of my buddies Eve and he was amazed at the graphics and ships but he said, "Wats up with the long wait time?" and I responded, "dude, I got no ****in clue." So, anyone know?

To be fair, we arent talking about what other MMOs do. Session change timers are a bit immersion breaking, they are very frustrating and I would love to see them go.
Fingers crossed CCPs tech wizards can one day lose them forever! ============================ 2003 and still alive! |

The ship change timer is forced to make sure that the database doesn't register two separate instances of you.
Search around a bit and you can find a Dev spewing his techno-babble on the subject.

To be fair, you should harden up and learn to use the session change as a game mechanic like the rest of us. |

Session change is "immersion breaking"? Yes, I suppose you're right, having to wait half a minute to (as an example) change your ship totally ruins immersion for me. Half an hour would be more realistic. I mean, just imagine the sheer size of these ships and what it would take to guide them in, unload and move your capsule etc...

I'm fairly certain some of the timers are there for game balance, such as the undock timer to prevent people from instantly redocking with no chance of being shot at.
Also, since no one else has said it yet:

hehe, well, for me, as a programmer '=' and 'is' have two separate meanings
(though I usually use the more correct '==' in those cases where I use this method.) ('==' means 'equivalent to', whereas 'is' means 'identical to')

i cant be arsed to find it but a while back a dev responded to one of these and essentially what he said si that EVE is stil made to work with a 56k dial up connection
the 30 second timer is mandatory for all players to be able to compensate for slow connections and/or comps....this keeps ppl like ur self with good machine from beating the crap out of noosb with the slow comps b4 they have a chance to load

Anyone who gets upset over 30 seconds really has a variety of issues that I do not think an internet forum is the appropriate place to discuss.

I bet you rage at every stoplight.
Also new players are far too mesmerised by the vast scale of the game and all the shiney ships at gates to even have time to think about session timers. That your friend did only means he probably has some form of add and would start figiting simply walking down the hall to the bathroom or possibly in the middle of the pee stream in severe cases.

Forgot your own op? Dunno about your long wait times but mine are hella quick after the patch. Granted the normal wait 30 to get into a new ship is still around but undocking and jumping are near instant now. So yeah guess its add for both of you.

I am mildly offended. I have severe ADHD and it doesn't render one incapable of basic tasks. (Although, in fairness, I *do* fidget in the bathroom, but I'm a girl so this is not a particular problem.)
30 seconds is a really long time. It is not, however, a *problematic* time. Either you have stuff you need to be paying attention to in that 30 seconds, if undocking somewhere risky, or else it comes under the category of "that's what the in-game browser is for".
@Trader20: "That your friend did only means he" is idiomatic, but perfectly grammatical, English.

Good one!
Your posts are very typical of someone who contrives a situation. I think you fabricated your OP to create a situation where you can have your whine and build some type of e-credibility by harkening to the plight of the "noobs" and growth of the game (of course that is an e-honorable position!).
You are the kind of person with the mindset of Mcdonalds. You want it NOW! and with extra super sizing. You are the kind of person that buys an e-bay char and has it shipped via "previous moment shipping", just so you can be uber, sooner.
Your comments are also typical of someone on the defensive. You show you are actually defensively angry by how you type, but you are e-clever enough to put a smiley at the end. This is just for trying to show you actually don't care and are not in the slightest affected (sarcasm) by the fact that most of the replies refute your gripe and take a poke at you. But you are unable to control yourself and keep from answering with predictable method.
If you can't take the terrible wait times and the unfortunate and sad state of affairs this game has fallen too (insert eve is dead comment here) then you can always kill yourself IRL. I am sure your passing will be lamented by one of the 7+ billion people on this planet. Most likely a noob and his eulogy to you might be as follows:
"Trader20, aka "Fas Fowward", aka "Da Instantaneous 1", aka "Can't Stop Naow!" He arrived ahead of his time and early. He had a huge turn-on. Alas, the world had lines that had to be sat in. Not for this dude, the indignity of PATIENCE! Silver spoon of magic, buried deep behind, reality was banished. Buddies aplenty, wat up wid dat? He DID, got a ****in clue".
Oh yeah... Pick one.

I agree with the Op, session changes are a pain and break your train of thought and immersion. Its not a matter of being patient for me, I'm happy to be patient if I see a reason for it. I'm far from convinced the game play reasons are valid. But I have a lot more issues with the UI anyway so session changes are not high on my annoyance list.

The problem lies in the psychological implementation.
Consider:
- nearly no complaints about jumping into next system (which also takes cause some time) - nearly no complaints about warping to the next destination (which also takes some time)
The aggravating part is largely because a message comes up: 'you can't do X'
If instead, a sequence started where you got the idea of making progress (a cool animation extracting your pod from one ship and transferring it to another) that also lasts as long as the timer, there would be a lot less complaining.
If people click something, they want to see something started *now*, and not be told that they can't do it. Just changed the implementation will remove most complaints. ____

EVE is not a fast paced game, please relax a bit
Also the undock timer is very useful for annoying station campers (Yes that one that makes you invulnerable for 30 Seconds)
