Does anyone even realize what it takes to create and run these games? Settle down for once and learn to appreciate that we can play games like this. It's one freaking day, get over it.
We only complain when its broken. Since its broken a lot lately it only looks like we are complaining all the time.

and do you realize how much they are paid for it ? 40000 players paying 14 euros per month on average ( and dont tell me about paying with isk because the plex's are originally bought with even more EUR ) means 18.6 THOUSANDS EUR per day.

If there is downtime everyday for an hour thats over 24hour downtime each month which equals a day plus extra. All the extended downtimes would mean we lose atleast half a month of eve each year!

Maybe you should consider the running costs of all the servers, power, bandwidth, staff, offices....

Originally by: Ranka Mei So, apparently the EVE database is broken. Or rather, EVE itself really is the database. Do you people have any idea what disasterous effects a database corruption might have on EVE when allowed to propagate unchecked? Obviously not. But CCP did the right thing, IMHO: immediate shutdown of everything, and don't turn it back on until it's 100% fixed. Which probably means unrolling faulty database transactions (and the whole branches of faulty transactions that followed from each one), partial restores, etc. It's just gonna take time. And I really rather they DO spend that time, than catering to the spoiled brats I see whining about not getting their fix for a few hours.

Positive: Gave me time to buy Fallout 3 on sale and start downloading. Almost done now.
Negative (and a lesson learned): One of Two character's queue emptied an hour ago. Lesson learned: Put in a multi-day skill to be learned, leaving it as the last in the queue all the time. Put in more useful skills ahead of it. If the server goes down at an inopportune time, you're safe for a few days. Ok, so it's a lesson more skilled and experienced players learned log ago. I only just figured it out. I'm only used to the NORMAL downtime.

Originally by: Taharqua10 Perhaps it is good that the downtimes get progressively longer as the database gets worse. This may be the kick up the backside that CCP needs to address the underlying issues that the game is not quite holding together reliably which is a totally different statement that Eve is dieing.
I've been playing & paying for years now & the reliability gets worse every month. We put up with lag, disconnections, database issues & content update which is unnecessary & wastes time which would be better spent addressing the underlining reliability issues. I would sooner stick with existing content for a few months knowing that development time was being better utilised and then we might look forward to major updates that achieve the result of enhancing the overall game experience by giving more stability.
THIS ^^
