I swear if EVE gets any more carebear we'll all be flying around in cloud cars soon instead of Battleships. You should have been here in beta, when m0o could easily kill 2 or 3 hundred newbies a day in blind sight of the sentry guns. There is no way empire should be made any safer than it is now.

well, as long there's a simple, easy and cheap way to defend against such tactics i see no reason to change the system. This is a game made by the players, to a big amount.

Hmm, I read some posts that this is 'intended' and that 'CCP would've fixed it if it was against the rules'.
Well, I seem to recall criminal flagging for taking items from a can that doesn't belong to you. It didn't get into Exodus yet. So CCP most certainly didn't intent for things to work this way.
Sadly enough they (those who did this) will get away with it until CCP will actually put the flagging system in play. Is what they did 'griefing'? Not in the way griefing is described in the rules. They did make a hefty profit should the megacyte have survived. There is no risk in this tactic as you'll get your money back from insurance anyway. Only the set-up costs are higher than it used to be with Cruise Kestrels.
Is this PvP like some people say? Only in the literal sense of the word. In effect it is as much PvP as taking out a NPC convoy. (And I disagree that taking out an Indy in sec.space is the same as taking out an ALLIANCE Indy in non-sec or low sec space).
As for some that said something in the likes of 'pah, it's only 45M, you can NPC hunt that in 3 hours', you seem to forget that it is a lot of dough for a lot of folks and that not everyone has the skills to go hunt these kind of rats. A lot of pirates have high level Alts (or mains) to supply the cash their pirate character needs.
I am glad I read this though, helps me keep my eyes open again when cruising through so-called 'safe' space.
ps, to the original poster: sorry about your loss... lame way to lose your assets like that.

Only the GM's decide what is or isn't an exploit.
And try to keep it friendly, thank you

My GOd!!
I thought WOW and EQ-2 forums were too immature and full of trolls but this place is getting worse. I think EVE community is the most tolerable and helpful, thats what i heard and read and even experinced myself... WTF?? is happening here??
Baltron just ignore them and as someone suggested make a petition and try to be extra careful next time. If you ever need an advice again, you know this is the last place you will get any Come to eve-boards only if you want to redicule someone!! ================================================== Its not the size of dog in the fight but the size of fight in the dog which matters ================================================== |

I think after 5 pages it's safe to say the main topic isn't about Baltron or his specific problem anymore.

And why did CCP change the game mechanics if they were so right?
Why did they take cruise missiles away from Kessies if this type of "pirating" was by design?
I'll tell you why, because it's not by design or intent.
It's griefers looking for easy gankings as usual That's what they live for... They were the kids who were picked last for the schoolyard baseball team, now it's their chance to get back...
CCP fixed the other exploits I mentioned, they will fix this in due time...
No way should a hauler need an escort in 0.5 to 1.0 space. Absolutely no way!

Originally by: Baltron Planetcrusher I thought I was safe in high security space as long as I wasn't in a corporation which was at war...I was wrong. I invested all my money (43 million) into a shipment of megacyte which I figured I could haul around to various stations and make 4 million profit. I was in an Indy flying thru a .8 system when I was targeted and destroyed (along with my cargo) by 2 pirates who were in turn destroyed by Concord. I'm trying to figure out what these pirates were trying to accomplish. Are there really people in this game whose sole purpose is to grief others out of their hard work at any cost? It took me 30 hours of effort to gain that 43 million, now I have next to nothing.
Baltron
Just to get back on topic.
They killed you to get your minerals. That's what pirates do, kill you for profit. This is not an exploit, and nor is it griefing.
If you want to transport valuable stuff, protect it. Put it in a secure can, or transport it in a ship which is stronger than an indy - or both.
If you MUST use an industrial ship, fit it with good defences. A well equiped badger mkII, for example, would have easily survived this encounter - and it would be you scooping loot from the pirates.
Griefers would have just killed you for kicks. ______________________________________________
Never argue with idiots. They will just drag it down to their level, and then beat you through experience. |

Edited by: Xelios on 03/12/2004 12:15:01 I never said it was right that m0o could kill hundreds of newbs a day did I?
All I said was empire has become exponentially more safe since release and IMO it's at a point now where it doesn't need to be carebeared up any more. How many pirates like this are there in the game? I mean, you can't kill an indy before concord wipes you out unless you have some pretty good skills, so they're probably not alts. If they're not alts they're taking huge sec hits for their actions already, and soon won't be able to enter 0.8 space at all.
I just don't see what's so bad about there being a fraction of a percent risk that your indy will get blown up by pirates no matter where you are. Thousands of indys fly around unharmed in empire, with one or two being blown up by pirates in situations like this one.

Here we go again.
This is not a case of griefers looking for easy gankings, it is pirates looking for good profits.
So the victim is upset? So what? Not everyone can be happy all the time.
He lost loads of stuff, and he didn't think it could happen .. is that the pirates fault? Are they to be blamed for his ignorance?
He could have protected his stuff, but he didn't.
This is a perfect example of risk vs reward. The pirates KNEW they would lose 2 caracals + mods + ammo; and the MIGHT get 40mil+ in minerals as a reward... ...but it could have all been detroyed.
They took the risk, they got the reward.
The guy hauling took the risk of putting all his stuff in a cheap indy, and it didn't pay off for him.
The pirates had a choice, he had a choice - pirates won, he lost.
That's it.
They are not doing this to make the other person annoyed, they are doing it to make ISK. ______________________________________________
