First off, system specs: DV7 hp laptop Vista 64-bit Home Premium (SP1 installed, SP2 currently is hitting a brick wall...) 4GB RAM P7350 2.0GHz Core2Duo cpu Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT
Basically, I can run eve nice and smooth for anywhere between 5 to 15ish minutes, at pretty decent FPS, and then WHAM, usually when clicking on a command or a tab switch for chat channels, the screen freezes, then goes black (with mouse pointer turning to the hourglass/full circle symbol), and becomes non-responsive. Sometimes this unfreezes in a few seconds and goes back to normal, other times it stays frozen and has to be manually restarted.
As you can imagine this is immensely annoying for any situation, especially mission running and pvp, so I really need to fix this... any ideas? I've noticed that when doing a 'show info' on anyone or anything, there's a second or two of freezing, sometimes even with black screen and the mouse pointer changing to full circle, and then unfreezes, returning to normal... argh.

im also having this issue. i get terrible FPS for a minute or so while the memory leak occurs, and then it catches up...
sounds is off, so jukebox is not an issue. something else is up, this need to be fixed ASAP or I cannot play this game. losing fights due to being unable to control ship ------------------------------------------------

Just thought I'd add a pic of my FPS graph...
It's been doing this very often, every few half minutes, and sometimes a freeze just happens and won't go off. It'll do this pattern, stay at **** fps (like from 0.7 to 4ish) for maybe half a minute, then immediately jump up to a really sharp peak of 100ish fps, before settling down to 30-40fps. It's annoying, since when I first open up EVE it launches at 60-80fps and stays like that for a good few minutes (in station) and out of station its still decent, but then after a short while it just goes pop and slows into this bad-fps pattern, and it's a gamble whether it'll just repeat this or crash completely.
Really would appreciate a solution from anyone, since it's bloody near unplayable right now... at the moment even restarting my pc many times to play eve on a 'fresh' startup doesn't give me a respite from the lag.

Yea i get the same thing not quite as often as you but maybe once every few hours or even longer.
"the screen freezes, then goes black (with mouse pointer turning to the hourglass/full circle symbol"
Almost always under a heaver load i.e someone shooting someone else out side a station or pvp. I read up and changed my interval to intermediate and i dont think i have had the problem since but still testing it out.

Do you mean interval 'immediate'? And what are your graphics settings at? Mine are: Shadows: enabled Resource cache: disabled HDR: disabled Bloom: low Shader quality: low Texture quality: high LOD quality: high. Dither: enabled
I've got interval immediate but it's not helping me much...

Also, occasionaly when I start up eve I get:
"Runtime Error!
Program: I:\Users\*username*\Documents\Program Files\CCP\bin\ExeFile.exe
R6025 -pure virtual function call"
I dont know what my laptop gets in terms of temperature, but now that you mention it, it seemes the hotter my laptop gets the more frequent my lag spikes get... even though I'm lying my laptop on a hard surface.

This is growing worse and worse as I play. As said, restarting does not seem to clear the problem. In fact, if I quit EVE while it's having this "lag", it still isn't cleared when I restart client and I often have to wait at log-in several minutes before being able to type.
The issue is not with my computer, my computer is running fine, and not even half of it's CPU/Memory resources are being used. It's less than a year old and I've been very careful not to download anything to the HD, except for Firefox and the EVE client.
I've never had this problem before. For over two months I've used my new desktop and it runs EVE great; even PVP with effects on most the time with few hiccups. I noticed the freezes begin about 4 days ago, and have grown worse and more frequent as time progresses.
What is up, CCP?

Edited by: Tas Nok on 25/03/2010 08:14:32 Edited by: Tas Nok on 25/03/2010 08:14:00 Having the same issue with both my clients, (very brief hangs, black screen, then Eve returns after 3-10 seconds of me cursing at the screen ) turned off Jukebox, changed settings to performance, and I have interval set to one, I am fairly certain its not a video card issue or machine issue on this end, played thru crysis twice and suffered a freeze maybe twice (screen full of targets on high settings even this rig got bogged down).
I have cleared cache, and relogged repeatedly, I cannot re-rereate the problem on demand, it does appear random but associated with periods of no user input then it 'sometimes' occurs when I change chat windows, Fire, click on an object in space or even in the middle of typing a sentence in chat... it seems to have no logic to it, sometimes it occurs often (every 10 minutes or so) and other sessions not at all.

I haven't lost a ship to this yet but its only a matter of time.

Any solutions found for this yet?
I'm gonna attempt to get a laptop cooling pad (along the lines of a nzxt cryo lx) to see if cooling my laptop will let the fps stay stable... because I have noticed the heat emanating from it is really quite a lot when I experience fps lag... I dunno if this'd work for other people if they have desktops ofc...

Well I finally lost my first ship to this problem, tho not my first enagement (I'm an FC).
This is extremely irritating. I am on the verge of canceling my acct when I see CCP has no help to offer. I have tried just about everything short of a OS reinstall and I do not think this issue deserves that solution.
I turned my graphic settings to low and it seems to aleviate the frequency of "hiccups" but they still happen almost as often with the same level of problems (low FPS, delay of eve voice, freezing).
I can still talk on eve voice sometimes, though it generally requires me holding down the button for several seconds before it keys in, or pressing it 2-4 times.
So, can I at least get someone from CCP to say, "Hey, we're looking at it, and will help you when we have an idea of what's actually going on."? ------------------------------------------------

As I previously noted this error/problem appears to be random, I played tonight for 4 hours, same ships, same local as previous nights, and no problems at all tonight. I did everything, engage npc's, engage players, refit, cloak, chat endlessly, have vent running, all the same as the past week, but tonight no problems... go figure.

same problem here. every minute or so my screen freezes. then works again for about a minute and so on. is it possible that we all use Nvidia cards? GTX 260 here.... because there is a pretty similar problem in Dawn of War 2, as well only with Nvidia cards. ------ äDon't tell people how to do things. I'm having the same or similar problem. I am using an Nvidia grphics card.
Also, I dropped my shader quality down to "low" from hi, but to no effect.

Probably is the video card. I went to comp settings before doing an OS reinstall and opened the nVidia Control Panel.
I went to the 3D settings and turned preference empahsizing slider to lowest "Performance"-it was at highest "Quality" before. (Note: I had been running this setting for about 2 months now, no problems like this until I mentioned in previous post above.)
I did this with EVE settings at lowest as well as being windowed, in station. It has bounced between 30-60fps now, where it was at ~2.5fps before during the "hiccups". "Hiccups" last for about 2 minutes and then it clears up for 5-10 minutes on average.
It's been about 10 minutes since I did this. Have yet to turn my EVE settings back to high or try PVP, and it still has the longer test of time.
Looking for driver info, will update later. ------------------------------------------------

I did the same (performance vs. quality), no result.
Also, I picked up the latest driver for the Nvidia 9 series (the one that fixes the prior patch that caused all the problems with the fan), also no effect.
:(
I ut in a bug report on it as well. Maybe that'll help?

Someone just told me about the driver problem with nVidia, though I checked and that is not the version I had anyway (though I still did a rollback lol). So it's obviously not that either...here's the pic's of a "hiccup".

It's Eve then.

Same, the game is becoming unplayable for me. Problem started when they started working on the fleet lag problem, looks like their solution is to spread the lag out to everyone.

I managed to fix my problems... by getting a laptop cooling device. Ofc this may not work for everyone since I'm sure not everyone here is using a laptop, but if you are, check that when the fps spikes and drops are happening that you're not using a very hot laptop or blocking the vents or anything. Even when putting mine on a flat surface, it seems the inbuilt fans aren't adequate, so the cooling pad helps out (since it has a massive 20cm fan which blows away underneath my pc now).
Hope this helps at least some of you... but still, CCP should look into this if it is software related.

I run a desktop with plenty of space around it for cooling.
I downloaded CleanMem, a program designed to clear up some memory and I have noticed it reduces the spike during the leaks, but does not solve anything. When I was getting 0.5 FPS during a spike, I'm now getting 2 FPS. A lot better but not good enough.
CCP, do you acknowledge there is a problem? Are you looking into it?
I've also reinstalled EVE; done just about all I can here. Not a single word from CCP.

I'm quitting if CCP can't address this problem by Monday. Been two weeks since reported, and I know I'm not the only one with this game-ending problem.
PS. Oh yea I might as well sell my rig too, since I bought that just for EVE. Specs are above, mint condition. I have a nice flatscreen LCD monitor I will include, will sell for $700 USD. Only 3 months old. ------------------------------------------------
