Heya pilots,
I have been tooling around with the fitter, trying to figure out a good build for flying around in a Curse, but have been having some difficulty with it. With only 4 lows, it loses a lot of tank by fitting in the drone mods, but I am not sure how well a shield tank would work if I lose some of its speed / cap from low slots due to the drone mods.
Are Curse pilots not taking the drone mods in the fit now? Are they leaning on Shield fits? Some ideas and build advice would be greatly appreciated.
P.S.: I am looking into doing some low sec ratting, maybe some plexing / occasional pvp. |

Yes, Curse is typically shield fit. TBH you might be better off in a Pilgrim for the activities you mention. |

The drone damage mod is largely useless on any ship that could benefit from it outside of a battleship.
Ishtar doesn't have the CPU for it. Arbitrator and variants, can't sacrifice the tank for it, and are also lacking in cpu to make it effective in addition to their neut/turret disruptor bonuses.
The rattlesnake makes great use of them..but most every other ship gets better DPS from boosting their guns since the damage modifier on the DDA is below that of equivalent gun damage modules..for...some reason. |

horse***t. The Ishtar has abysmal cpu, but before the DDA's, people including myself were running ishtars with 2x sentry rigs, which eat a heck of a lot more cpu than one DDA while simultaneously being less effective. This. Ishtars are much easier to fit with DDAs than they ever were SDAs. |

Thanks for the replies,
So far I'm getting that I may want to look into a pilgrim instead of a curse, most of the time Curse fittings lean towards shield tanking, and its still up in the air on weather DDA's should or should not be used on either. And there is the Ishtar debate that is brewing as a sideline.
Not sure if I am more or less confused now. Lol.
If I shield tank, isn't that going to make it rough on trying to fit in a TD or 2? Or are they not installed on most of the shield tank versions? |

Just because DDAs are better than SDAs doesn't make them effective. Not everyone uses Sentrys in their Ishtars.
The problem aside from CPU is the lack of low slots, so you're left either shield tanking an ishtar, for the extra DPS, in which your shield mods eat up all your CPU, or you armor tank it, and use SDAs to get more dps, in which case the rigs eat all your CPU.
I didn't say that DDA's weren't an improvement, I said it was largely a useless one as most ishtar fits have trouble fitting it in slot wise, let alone CPU wise.
Regarding the Curse, most people just forget the TD bonus and go all shield tank since it doesn't have the lows to properly armor tank. |

Erm. Sorry. Derailed there.
If you're fitting for PvE, TDs are useless anyhow. And yes, the Pilgrim has more PvE options than the Curse (notably exploration).
For PvP, Curse fits vary. Some mix shield tank with a single TD but many forego it altogether in favor of more tank and neut sustainability. Traditionally, lows go to speed and sometimes cap regen, but BCUs weren't uncommon. Now DDAs are viable. |

Got it. I'll tinker around with fittings, then post them when I think I have something decent, for the math mongers among you to assess ;) |

Definately shield tank it. I've pulled some L4's by shield tanking it ( just get the webbers off you fast and pray you don't get Worlds Collide -.- ). With armour tanking you're either going to have arse tank or arse damage with it.
If you want/need to armour tank the Pilgrim is a much better bet and it lends itself better to TD I think as you're not fighting as much for the mids. |

Yes, and for those people that don't use sentries, its an even bigger improvement, because before DDA's, their only dps-increasing option was to use guns.

I'd say you're trying to tank your ishtar a bit too hard. Even fitting a single DDA is a huge improvement, and often pvp and pve shield ishtars would just fit a prop mod in their extra lows. because there was nothing else useful to fit there once sufficiently tanked. I'd say that depending on the activity a shield ishtar can easily fit 1 DDA and probably squeeze 2 on with a careful fit, which is quite an enormous bonus. For the Armor/sentry-rig option, if you trade your two sentry rigs for tanking rigs, and change one lowslot to a damage mod, you get the same dps on your sentries, a lot more dps on your scout drones, an extra ~10 cpu. Admittedly I won't be able to run my previous favorite nullsec plex fit (rep, 3 hardeners, 800 plate). For this fit if I drop the plate for the DDA, I can't make up the buffer with trimarks, but if i switch to aux nano pumps, the sustained tank gets quite nice.

That's a self-contradiction. The ishtar has always been a swiss army knife limited by its cpu. The DDA lifts a hard cap on potential dps, and can be used to improve just about any pre-inferno fit. I've gone with losing tank over losing speed, squishyness isn't such a bad thing with nearly all the BCs (barring the tier 3s) at 28 km. and any faster cruisers/bcs are usually kite fits, so you just neut em to hell and hope like hell you hold out till you warp.

The drone damage mod makes the Myrm competitive with the Vexor in terms of DPS.

I just slapped around the EFT a bit and came up with:
Curse
2x meta 4 medium neut 1x meta 4 medium nos 2x meta 4 small neut
3x large shield extender 2 1x adaptive invuln field 1x 10mn mwd 1x warp disruptor
2x drone damage aug 2x nano
2x medium CCC
With hammerheads it puts out around 310 dps with my skills Has about 32k EHP (omni) 1500 m/s 7.4 align time
I think this is basically TenTron's fit, but I took out RCU and put in the drone damage augs
You can do the same thing to a Pilgrim:
2x Meta 4 Med Neut 1x meta 4 small neut 1x cov cloak
1x 10mn AB 1x scram 2x tracking disruptor 1x medium cap booster
2x drone damage amp 1x ENAM 1x 1600mm 1x med armor rep
1x medium ancillary current router 1x whatever you want for the second rig
Has 26k EHP (omni) and 310 dps from hammerheads. 454 m/s 12 second align time |
