Funny how when you stop making your game worse and return that functionality, everyone is happy.

Way back in beta we had this beautiful 2001-esque docking sequence, every time you wanted to dock with a station. Ofc, after docking a few times, it became tedious as hell, so we decided to sacrifice immersion on the altar of usability. Same applies for a pod-exit cut scene.
Having a real-time in-game cutscene that you can quickly skip would be nice though, at least something that can be disabled quickly in the options menu. Sometimes we like quick in-out, but other times we like to be entertained with immersion. When I dock, I want NPC ships to come escort my ship and to tow it into station while the servers are doing their thing. If I want to skip after things are ready, a small button shows up. If the animation is quick enough, it will be seamless.
Think about a PS3 game without in-game cutscenes for a moment. Are you also cutting all in-game cutscenes from Dust?

couple of things: - why old hangar? not new "old" with old features + new shiny buttons? can't you make an LCD display in place of capacitor with same "shiney" buttons (ADD ALL THE BAYS OF THE SHIP THERE, YES CORP, FUEL, DRONES, YO MOMMAH's purse and then some), improve and give some said "immersion" - is it THAT hard to have a font with dash on zero? - backlog is simmilar to "feature blackhole" in agile or whatever you use, take them out of the black hole.... |

I hope you will look at the time and money spent first removing features no one wanted removed and then having to put them back after the player backlash. Think how much the savings would have been if you had some awareness on how badly you messed up when you turned the core of your game into just a feature called Flying In Space. |

And exactly why would this be a bad idea? You can skip it, it still takes a few seconds for things to initialize with the servers and a jerky pause plus a loading bar. Why not just add some tug ships and at least show them pulling your ship in while things load. No need for a long, drawn out docking animation, just something that improves immersion a bit.
Besides, how hard would it be to add to the game with a skip button? What's not to like? |

While I like the idea they are bringing ship spinning back, I really like the idea of looking at my ship with the current system. However, as you mentioned, the amount of power required to render such awesome graphics, is real stressful on computer. Also it makes it much more time consuming to dock, buy/sell, change fittings, etc, than it did before.
Could we get the current system, but with better performance? It seems you folks put so much time into this system, only to give players an option, which to me, seems like a waste.
Is this a fix or patch, or is this the content publish?
I was hoping for more game content updates.
I was hoping to see a Dev blog stating you will NOT be removing ABC's from WH space as the whole concept is asinine. |

Sounds promising but don't you think after all this back and forth with you we could get a when this will happen?
Oh, and for the love of God and all that's holy could you please give a bit of thought behind dock/undock status. Maybe something along the lines of each pilots dock/undock status is set individually. This would allow customers with multi-accounts to have some of their pilots load CQ and others to load hanger view only. In other words, if pilot ABC logs out and then I login pilot XYZ your game doesn't carry over the dock/undock state from ABC and apply it to XYZ.
All ideas in a company have their champions or advocates, even the bad ones. If your truly trying to change things it may be time to take a hard look where some of these less then popular ideas originate from and start holding people in your organization accountable. Lastly, print a large poster of the "Door", frame it and hang it up as a reminder of the last several months!
Thanks to CSM, protesters, forum warriors, bloggers and people who actually canceled an account or stopped logging in. CCP needed a wake-up call and hopefully your efforts are going to start paying off with some tangible results. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Quote:It turned out that the new turret models, while heavily detailed and cool, didnGÇÿt lend themselves well to being drawn in an area just a few pixels wide and tall. Usability suffered. It was hard to distinguish between turret types. As a result, we will be reverting the change so that turret icons use the original custom drawn icons, rather than 3d renders of the turrets themselves.
Would be neat if you could put some good icon illustrators to work there and make new icons that look better. The old ones are good but does not resemble the new turrets. Making excellent UI and icons is a difficult task and if one takes short cuts by using rendered models you get this result. |

Yes. But its the people in this thread that are being silly little sheeps now. Torfi named the blog "Fixing some things and moving forward". Meaning that it is just a blog about some long needed obvious fixes that they honestly should have fixed a long time ago or preferably never broken. I am guessing he was honest when he said he dident expect such a positive feedback because as you said, they are merely fixing things they shouldnt have broken in the first place.
You can go back and check out the blog they released after the Jita riots. The blog dident say anything, but still lots of people were doing the happydance and "resubscribed".
Its silly, but people are easy to lead.

I like a readable font! But let's make sure not only that 0 and O are distinct, but 6 and G as well. That's confusing now, which is fairly egregious.
On the same topic, why does the game sometimes force all caps? In the names for saved overview settings, and for the ship name in the fittings panel, specifically. As far as I can tell it sacrifices useability and customization for additional looking-ugly. |

uhm... i guess the forum ate my post. let me rewrite it
I'm happy the spinning - ship - hangar is coming back not because it's great but because it is much more usable than the captain quarter. Actually it had to be done since the beginning because the CQ doesn't add anything in term of gameplay and so people just dock to change ship / change fitting and the old hangar was better if someone wanted to do this.
Kudos to ccp that has been able to understand that (it was hard but you did it at last ^^ )
The font is also nice but will we be able to change the colour too or only the size like today? |
