Heal 50 (and heal 0 for boundary violation) are the commands the GMs use and historically that is what the commentators have said.
As to blow by blow, stating that the drakes are still spamming missiles for 10 mins while nothing else is happening doesn't sound that great either. There is a balance and hopefully we are getting there.
But I hope to see all your names on the expert list for the next tourney so I can post "constructive" comments on the forum about how you didn't name a ship/pilot/primary correctly because you were trying to work around sound and client issues where your windows (including overview) and brackets have vanished

Had a listen and it sounded something like "La-jun-a Ro-ma-na". I'll try to get it right if I'm commentating on your next match (or maybe just play that MP3 )

Originally by: Weazy Z I have to agree, these commentators are really bad. It isnt the fact that they cant pronounce names, recognize ships, etc... but the fact that they sound like theyve never played the game (or atleast pvped). They dont know shiptypes, they have very little clue as to what tactical information should be discussed, and they have no historical perspective about the past tournaments and fielded teams to rely on.
Ok, I'll bite.
Firstly in response to mis-pronouncing names, I could pick on your use of "isnt", "theyve", "dont" and "atleast" instead of "isn't", "they've" etc and assume you've never written English before, but I don't make assumptions based on one forum post.
I'll address the second part of that paragraph in a moment.
Originally by: Weazy Z If you pay attention to any professional sports comentary, you will notice that the people doing the commentary are either a) ex-professionals/champions in the sport they're talking about (John McEnroe for example) or professional sports fanatics who know everything about sports (Bob Costas).
The keywords here are "professional" I.e. they do it for a living. I do not Pvp for a living. I also bet they weren't so hot the first time they tried commentating because it is totally different to actually doing what you are commentating on.
So I'm not a professional PvP champion but that doesn't automatically make me a n00b.
Originally by: Weazy Z These commentators are neither-- none have strong backgrounds as fcs/pro pvpers or any special expertise in ship knowledge.
Again you assume so much from a single weekend. I will admit I don't FC as much as I should and instead spend lots of my time teaching PvP to newer players.
Originally by: Weazy Z Which leads me to the question: why were they selected? There are hundreds of FCs in the game who could provide a little more "expert" commentary which would be more gripping and allow the audience to feel more connected. The EvE tourny was one of the main reasons I continued to play the game and one of the features that got me hooked-- how bout trying to improve it each year rather than making it worse and worse?
The first step in being selected was to have actually applied, with a well written application which was good enough to get you on the short list for audio interview.
The second step was to turn up to the audio interview on time and talk about Eve and other things with the Tourney crew. This allowed them to gauge how well we knew the game as well as a bit about our personality, how quickly we could respond to questions and the like.
I don't know why these hundreds of better FCs didn't apply, perhaps because it is far easier to stay at home and complain
I wasn't planning to apply but a few good friends (rightly or wrongly ) pushed me into it and thus far I've had more positive comments than I had been expecting (the Eve community being as harsh as the game )
Originally by: Weazy Z In all honesty, after I learned that they were youtubing the videos so promptly, I stopped bothering to listen to day 2 on the radio and just waiting till later to watch it muted. It makes it easier to follow.
So rather than see if the commentary has improved you've written it off based on the first day where we had a number of issues. Well I guess you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
Until you've tried this you really don't appreciate how strange it is sitting in the commentary position with a totally different UI to the one you use in day to day Pvp trying to watch two sides of the screen while also talking about the match as you try to look at ship effects.
And there is no way we can please everybody because if we try to elaborate on what is going on for the newer players you tell us to call it play by play. If we simply call play by play you call us dull. If we try to liven it up we get told to be more n00b friendly.
But as everybody has written us off I guess nothing I say matters

Originally by: Hurricane Carter Please turn'm down a bit. Don't mind hearing it, but its a wee bit too loud in comparison to the commentators as Sibane said.
I will mention this to the camera guys.
Alternatively the commentators will just shout louder
