I may have been a bit hasty in my knee-jerk reaction to this console game with my comments about possible negative ramifications on the game. Change is like anything else, the unknown can induce fear and doubt. One thing is for sure, it may polarize the community, letting the more impatient younger crowd play the more action oriented "console" element and the more intellegent crowd stay in the game that has a higher learning curve, thus making the deviding line more distinct. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but it will give those that crave more "action" and simplicity a nitche that they can go to, plus draw millions of more real money in sales and potential sequels for even more money to help develop our universe. At least that's what I'm hoping.

My thinking behind Dust goes like this.
CCP made EVE.
Eve is mostly awesome (by far the best MMO out there, despite it's flaws).
CCP are going to make DUST.
CCP aren't going to do anything too serious that might hurt their ONLY source of income (Eve).
Change is good, but painful. Adapt or die.

Consoles are static, unresponsive and limiting To make a game for a console is limiting it's potential, to "cap" the experience
Therefore, dust will be capped at having potential to be good, but having all the restrictions consoles apply weighing it down for no proper reason

EVE is the best MMO, but I can't recommend it, even though I do ;) Well maybe there will be another "expansion" called Laundry317 where women can make clothes on their WIIs and sell them on the planets.
Extending the EVE Universe is a damn good idea, and considering the numbers of possible Dust-players it's not like they'll be able to control SOV that hard.

you DO know that there is a dev quote somewhere saying that in WiS you can set up shops to sell self-designed clothes?

Way to go. Lemme guess: you will stay in the game - coz you are all brainz. And all the ones playing consoles are just ADHD kiddos.
We need more cliches. They are fun and easy to apply...

The move by CCP to produce a console outlet for a persitant universe tied to a big MMO is a bold move, and if they pull it off, has the potential to change the scope of the whole console market. Especially with the evolution of consoles.

This wasn't about the typo. It was about the subtle, yet always and everywhere showing "I play EVE, therefore I am smart - actually smarter than anyone not playing EVE. Because EVE has the steepest learning curve in the known universe" attitude.
You might have recognized my (sarcastic) call for more cliches at the end of my post. But I guess you chose to ignore it...

Hehe, that reminds me of a joke I heard in Minmatar chat:
Question: What happens when an EVE player logs out to play WoW?
Answer: It raises the IQ of both servers.

Haven't really followed the main thread as I'm out of town, but the real problem I see with Dust is this. Anyone who's played for any length of time knows there's three truisms in Eve:
1. Player missions are a joke because people tend to do themselves rather than pay another. 2. Players who take Eve seriously (e.g. sov warriors) tend to have lots of accounts and alts and/or heavy alt support through their alliance. 3. MMO players are pretty elitist and FPS players rank up there with WoW in the LOL GO AWAY list. The opposite is true too of course.
So it's easy to see where this is going. Big alliances will take out a bunch of accounts in Dust and keep all their stuff in-house, just like they do in Eve. Meanwhile there will be epic level forum PvP as the two communities go at it. Fine if they're separate, but tie one game to the other and I see one of the following things happening, based on how other attempts have turned out:
Face of Mankind: Everyone who's not already part of the alliance system gets left out in the cold. Eventually they run out of money, get ****ed and quit. CCP gets flamed hard and spends two years after Dust release focusing on damage control.
Tabula Rasa: The sov wars angle stagnates and it basically becomes PvE. Alliances get bored and go back to blobbing, regular players hang around but with no incoming drama from Eve they quickly tire of it. Game withers away.
Faction Warfare: Basically same as the Tabula Rasa ending except alliances don't leave. Dust fighting becomes sporadic raid empty plexes type stuff. Heavy blowback in Eve as people feel like sov wars are now a crapshoot. Obviously this one's the most dangerous, and is why I'm posting this, as Dust done poorly could do a lot of damage to both games.
Don't get me wrong, I applaud CCP for trying to make an MMOFPS that doesn't suck. But I really don't see any good coming from trying to tie the two games together. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

After thinking more on the subject I guess it makes sense that it would be console only, it would be a bit hard for CCP to go toe to toe directly with say TF2 or CS. This enables there's very little overlap, and CCP can allocate resources very well. -----------

There was a game i played 3-4 years ago. Planetside, one and only FPS i played ever and didn't find another similar FPS till this day. As I see CCP is getting close to that with all the tactic and war thing. Can't wait to see in what direction CCP will go. Just that they don't make some sheaty CS click click i have no brains thing.
Video of the game I'm telling:

Werner? Are you kidding? I logged onto Werner a month ago, the pops were 33% NC, 66% TR and 0% VS. Pretty much meant there were only THREE people on the server. Gemini is where its act and the VS have been kicking ass lately. So much that the top two VS outfits went TR for the day just to prove that the "overpowered" Lasher isn't what makes us so great and conquered everything purple. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I said I played it years ago when it was still awesome with big active population. Not a month ago since as I hear it's dieing for 2 years now. Honestly I would be happier if they just shut down all servers 2 years ago and let it be remembered as the best. In curent state it's like 70 year old ****star...

This right here. CCP did a **** job at launching Faction Warfare, it was crapola all over the place and still is for the most part. Now if they can't get that right how good are their chances of integrating a whole new game?
