In the recent update (Inferno)
The Caldari Merlin no longer has 2 Turret slots and 1 missile slot
It now has 3 Turret slots 
It now lacks long range firepower 
I used to love using my merlin in missions
now i am looking for a decent frigate that combines both turrets and missiles
Can anyone please tell me why the Merlin has lost its ability to launch missiles? |

Because basing your fit on a weapon system the ship gets no bonus to makes sense, split weapon systems suck no matter what. If you want to use missiles get a Kestrel, if you want to be good at lvl 1 missions get a Cormorant, Apart from that, rail Merlin works fine for pve.

As i said in my question
the missiles gave long range engagement, so you could sit outside the range of a fixed object (fixed cannon, etc)
The turrets provide close in engagement
With the Missile launchers gone, the Merlin is now less efficient
and there are no other frigates that are as good as the Merlin |

You know, the Tristan still has a split set up if you have your heart set on that. |

I would not take the Tristan, even if it was the last Frigate in the game
