EVE Online Apocrypha 1.3 will be deployed during downtime on Monday, 29th June 2009 between 0800 and 1200 GMT.
This latest patch in the Apocrypha series contains some fantastic changes for core memory and lag reduction on Tranquility. Tech 3 production and reverse engineering will be receiving a major boost in terms of increased radar sites in wormhole space, increased drop rates of Tech 3 datacores along with increasing the runs on the blueprints from reverse engineering jobs. Player Owned Structures will see significant improvements with the deployment, anchoring, on-lining and un-anchoring of starbase towers and structures which will be improved for all players.
Patch Notes are available here and please use this thread to discuss the upcoming release. |

The pre-requisite skills for Capital Shield Operation have been changed. The new requirements for the training of this skill will be Shield Management V, Shield Operation V and Engineering V.
What happens if you have this skill already but don't have one of the new prereqs? Do you lose the SP you have already? |

Most likely it will be like this: You will keep the skill and the benefits it gives at your current level, but if you want to do more training on the skill, you will have to meet the new prerequisites.

It works like all other skills. If you already have the skill in your skillbook, the prereqs don't matter, and you can keep on enjoying your already trained skill. |

hi ccp, one questions:
Reverse Engineering will see several improvements. We are increasing the drop rate of Tech 3 datacores, increasing the runs on the blueprints from reverse engineering jobs and increasing the presence of radar sites in wormhole space.
does this means existing t3 bpc's will have a increase in runs as well ? |

Where is the scanning bugs fixes, the dual dots not showing up, the lag when hitting scan and a numerous others? Thought Apochrypa was "the" expansion for exploration. Now, it's anchored in the backwaters somewhere, and have a hard time getting back to the promised wonders of enjoyment.

Edited by: ATOM ANT on 26/06/2009 13:01:35 well has any thought been given to setting up the POS modules so that they actualy attach and fit to the tower? The net assembly result looks like a messy little gaggle and is a real nuisance. This would also set up the posibility of being able to dock in the pos.
And i agree that the scanning feature needs some work. Don't miss understand me though. This new scanning thing is a vast improvement over the last one. It just needs to be a little less teadious and some of the bugs worked out.
Looking forward to the changes. Sound Issue? Not me. Perhaps you could be a litte more specific. I think that helps the ccp work crew figgure things out and get them fixed somtimes.

No, in terms of modules this change only applies to offensive and defensive modules. It is specifically aimed at things like sentry batteries that must be anchored outside the force field.
Originally by: iP0D EVE War 1.2 is over and now they start to look at pos spamming
Not so much the actual tower spamming as reducing the 'time vampire' nature of setting up enough modules (20-30+) to create so-called Death Star towers which could take a single operator 12-14 hours to do properly.

The new inventory service worries me a bit. Heavy backend changes to something as important and heavily used as the inventory feels dangerously prone to massive bugs. Although the update is sorely needed, so we could just as well take the hit now as any other time.
Also, why haven't the scanning interface been fixed yet?? It's not like it's a total rewrite of the game engine! It's a couple of small fixes that are probably due to some slight oversight somewhere in the code. How can this be so hard to fix?

Yeah, that's cool. It also makes it a lot easier to set up hardened caldari speedbumps by the dozen
On a serious note, because of that "fun factor" I would have expected hardeners to be excempt, or even had their timings increased ...

@ POS onlining: yeah, why not make it even easier to create gay-pos setups with 50-100 ECM batteries, hardeners etc. On the other hand people who just want to deploy/move some hisec industriual pos will still have to wait ages.
@ patch notes: of all changes the only "interesting" ones are POS timers, capital shield booster, citadel missiles fix and t3 changes
final comment? crap patch. Still no sight of fixes of scanning bugs (thats apocrypha 1,1 1,2 and 1,3 patches which didnt fix them yet). Scan result filters dont work, scan bubbles tend to clutter down compy (recalling probes, moving em), "recover" and "scan" buttons too close etc.
still no fix for blackops scan resolution thingy (which was increased and then further patch decreased it for god-only-knows-why reason)
game still crashes spontaineously (sp?) when warping to complex gate, still no sight of a fix
so pretty much only minor "tweaks" which i guess we could live without.

Nice .. but ..
1. shortening the time to set up the most typical sort of deathstar of this era (caldari large with a dozen or more hardeners and a load of EW modules) used to spam moons using multiple alliances with 5 each before and 5 after downtime? Versus leaving the industrial side take the same amounts of time as before.
Odd.
2. Sound issues :/ Please, it's probably hard to get a grip but if so just let us know.
3. Scanning, there's quite a bunch of us who haven't seen a wormhole yet on their own because the colours used for the mesh and the control arrows are on of the worst possible combinations in terms of usability and visual (colour) impairements. Nice expansion those wormholes .. :/

Does EVE even have sound? I thought they removed it years ago ;-)
What probing issue, if it doesn't show up it isn't there. And you can cloak if you put your hands before your eyes and yell "I'm invisible!"...
Seriously though, fixing issue A might require a different specialist then solving issue B. You don't ask the butcher to fix your computer, same thing applies here...

So, I (and others) have had responses in bug reports relating to <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1072295">the scan probing bugs</a> stating that they were fixed in "Tex 1.3".
Further, CCP Frellicus responded more than a month ago stating that some of them had been fixed internally.
Any word on why there is no sign of them in the patch notes? I really think that this is currently the biggest issue with the game, especially considering the degree to which Apocrypha has made scan probing an integral part of enjoying such a large part of the content.
This patch has tweaks to T3 production, ostensibly with the aim of bringing down the cost of T3 cruisers. Perhaps a better way to do that would be to make the scanning (which is fundamental to T3 production) less horrifyingly painful by eliminating these large and well-reported bugs that were introduced more than two months ago. |

within a week of Kenzoku losing their last towers in Delve/Querious, and after the coalition have finshed spending thousands of manhours deploying their POS networks, with Kenzoku now looking for new space, you pick this time to release these changes?

Yeah great. So you make it even easier to setup death-stars which require big blobbing.
I thought you guys were interested to reduce the need for blobbing.
Where is your famous risk/reward balance?
It takes only one person to set up a death-star. But it needs a large fleet to tear it down. Now you make it even easier. I can't see any balance in there at all.

This is not about blobbing. The time reduction does not make the setup "easier" or the towers themselves more lethal / annoying once completed. Regardless of if a tower takes five hours or ten hours to set up, their end-state effectiveness remains the same.

Module anchor queuing is a HUGE task, as not only would you need to tell the system in what order you wanted the modules anchored, but also the position, so unless you enable snapshotting of a base tower for the system to use, the mechanics involved would be a huge overhead.

when the devs say things like that, its like going on a first date. You get closer and closer, but you never get to touch
btw devs, I have a question, will cap ship maintenance arrays be allowed to be deployed in WH space anytime soon? I have a POS with about 20 regular maint arrays to house my cap fleet and its annoying :)

Am I really reading this thread and the patch notes right?
NO fixes to the probe scanning interface and NO answers from devs why this is the case for the people who have brought this matter up in the thread?
While ALL other questions about the patch have been answered here.
Very poor form from CCP, and very disappointing.

Um... that does make a reasonable difference. It lowers the treshold substantially to make it the default tactic. Right now you can sneak spam 5 pos per group, online them during downtime and then after downtime it comes down to who has the biggest blob to see if each group can spam 5 more. With this it decreases the risk timeframe for the attacker substantially.
Not to mention it makes the proces easier on a whole, which lowers the treshold for the "method" as well.
Really, I would make Shield Hardeners excempt from this. Thought it would have been obvious to discourage behaviour which kills the fun on purpose.

This is probably the fuel pellet idea that they've discussed on and off for a long time. I thought the fact that the next expansion was focusing on sov/pos spam/0.0 issues was fairly well known at this point? Or at least, a very very common rumor.
I was REALLY surprised not to see a simple graphics fix to the scan probes. Like... revert whatever was done in 1.1. Scanning was really nice for like 1 patch. The other issues suck too, but not being able to see the probes is BY FAR the most annoying thing (imo) about the scanning system right now. I don't care about pretty bubbles, I care about being able to SEE my probes. kthxbye. |

Thank you for the reply.
But let me ask then, why is there a timer at all? If the tower-setup timer is so unimportant and irrelevant?
Why don't you turn the anchoring and onlining then not into a 10 seconds timer?
I think the time you need to setup a full tower is actually very important. As I earlier said, one person can setup a deathstar but it needs a full fleet to take a deathstar down.
Do you really think it doesn't matter if you can setup such towers in 5 hours or 10 hours? If anything at all I would have loved to see onlining weapons taking a lot more time.
But maybe this queue for pos modules will help there, if it really comes someday. I guess the hope dies last.

He is partially right. The pos anchor changes were only for offensive/defensive modules which are used in sov warfare. Yes sure, some hisec poses use em too so do lowsec/w-space poses (guns etc) but amount of deathstars in w-space and lowsec compared to 0.0 is minimal. Deathstar is your typical "sov holding" pos and its point is only to be hard to kill. Thus reducing the time you need to deploy full deathstar from lets say 12 to 6 hours (throwing numbers, no idea what are normal timers) means you can "ninja-pos" in enemy weak timezone - and that includes full deathstar. As it is now enemies were able to stop gun deployment or just engage tower straight off the bat before all guns/hardeners were deployed.
Easier POS logistics work similiar way. If you can remotely (the pos modules que) put mods + online em and then easily fuel them then it again works in favour of pos spammers.
Its already insanely hard/almost impossible to stop pos logistics (moon minerals hauling, stopping pos refuels etc) thus the war of attriction does not exist. And with current "safe" moon mining + amounts of isk it generates the ISK suddenly becomes less important for spaceholding ally. Pretty much 5-10 r64 moons can give you enough isk that you dont worry about money during whole war and only thing that can kill you off is poor participation.
As for CSM i guess we'll have to wait for transcriptions of meetings but im guessing they will be against sov warfare changes. |

In my fantasy world TSM5 is the pre-req for T3 Invulnerability fields which can be 'scripted' to switch between multispectral damage resistance to being type specific hardeners.

CCP, now that you're using a team-based development system, could you not release smaller, more regular patches that address single issues? It would be much nicer to get bugfixes deployed very soon after coding + testing is done, rather than waiting for a larger patch.

even moar stuff....
Well you see technicaly what it does is reduce my ability to run between 4-5 poses at once to anchor and online everything to 2-3 poses max
if towerspamming under fire you often cant put up guns anyways so you spam ****stars so the anchoring reduction is very welcome game balance wise thou onlining hardeners too fast might be a bad thing similarly id keep large guns from onlining faster
as far as med guns goes a mediumsized fleet (50ish battleships) can incap a medium gun in 2 minutes.... so i guess the onlining reduction just makes it a bit more exciting
all in all its a very welcome chance but probably not looked at from all possible angles (as usual) |

How in any way does this not encourage POS Spamming even more? I see no good reason to change the mechanics unless there is further intent to look into the effects this will have on 0.0. It's just like you're giving people more reasons to make 0.0 life miserable for the masses. |

Sorry, carebear here, but when you say
Quote: Strip miners, ice harvesters, doomsdays, triage module, siege modules and other modules which previously used a CPU bonus on the ship to allow you to fit a special module now use a new ôCan be Fitted Toö attribute and no longer need the high base CPU to restrict the fitting of the module. The CPU on each of these types of modules has been adjusted to no longer require a 10,000 CPU base as a result of employing this new method.
I assume that a ship like an Exhumer that has a 99.5% reduction to the 10,000 CPU you would simply reduce it to 50 CPU and then have things like Mining Laser Upgrades affect the CPU like it does currently so that the amount of CPU used by Strip miners and Mining Laser Upgrades is going to be precisely the same both pre- and post-patch.
What about Covert Ops? Are cloaking devices included in this? If so the Covert ops cloaking device II (for instance) will have it's CPU reduced from 10,000 to 200 at level 0 Covert Ops skill and still at 0 CPU at Level 5 Covert Ops skill? I assume the ship descriptions will be rewritten to accommodate and clarify this. |

The release of the latest projects started in Quantum Rise, then followed in Apocrypha 1.2 and now Apocrypha 1.3. I'm planning to write a dev blog this weekend to provide more insight into this work we have been doing.

WHAAAT!!
Lulz you wimpy mother*******, i just spent 21 days completing Tactical shield thingyskill and now you make it obsolete, whats the matter with you CCP, IT IS OKAY TO MAKE SKILL / MODULES HARD TO USE, STOP MAKING EVERYTHING SO DAMN EASY, its the exact same thing when jumpfreighters was announced, i emmediatly trained freighter 5, just to realise that this particular T2 ship didnt need lvl 5, again, UR MAKING EVE TOO EASY.
Capital shield booster the best/only one of its kind/size, offcourse it needs a ton of lvl 5 skillz to be used, cammoan, why cant we have EVE as we know it, a game for people who understand and appreciate the difficulty of the game...
What seperates EVE from the other game out there? ~~ Thats right, EVE is difficult compared to WOW, EQ, and yadda yadda games_who_cares_about_them_koz_they_are_for_kids.
Make it hard for us to use the big toys of the game, besides! by now, the people who pilot the naglfars (like myself) should be able to use the booster anyway, i know i just spent 21 days traing the skill needed, so this change is mute by now, just making it easier for the upcomming pilots, and for what purpose? isent EVE moving forward fast enough?

learn to do math, they didn't make it easier to get the booster, they made it make more sense. tactical shield manipulation is a shield tanker skill, so not everyone has any need for it. do some math real fast. shield management 5 takes over 12 days, and operation and engineering 5 both take over 4 days, how much is that? its over 20, which is comparable to your 21 day train. it seems easier to you because you already trained the shield skills. not every has so stop whining about good decisions on the part of CCP.

This makes the 3rd patch since these were reported as known issues by CCP, and these are borderline game-breaking bugs to one of the marquee features of Apocrypha. Freeform contracts can no longer be created. This is due to griefing problems. You will still be able to view your completed freeform contracts for now but in an upcoming expansion older freeform contracts will be removed as well.

Really? What happened to a sandbox? I'll not disagree that there were problems with these contracts - since they were virtually never used for legitimate purposes - but was an improvement instead perhaps considered? A few simple UI changes to make it a little more clear what the contract was for? Perhaps a change to make these contracts private only, and a few other changes, and so make them a means of creating non-standard, enforceable agreements between individuals?
I personally never scam, however it is a legitimate part of the game which CCP seems to be removing one piece at a time. In six years I have also never been scammed myself, because it is not that hard to avoid. Simple reading comprehension in most cases. Which makes this move an undeniable case of 'dumbing down.' Is it perhaps a result of Plexs? That is, in the past, by the time you had enough money to be interesting to scammers, you had played long enough to avoid them. Now, a week old character buys a plex, falls for a scam, and whines in a petition?
Regardless of the underlying cause for the change, calling it 'Griefing' in particular is nasty precedent. Scamming is a legitimate means of making an income in Eve. I have, in the past, not been one of the people in the chorus of 'Eve is turning into WoW.' I had believed that CCP had a clear, fairly well defined idea of what sort of game this should be.
Moves like this, particularly when scamming (a legitimate game mechanic) is relabeled griefing, make me start to worry.

FIX SCAN PROBES.
Countless people have issued countless complaints in the last two months pleading for fixes to scan probes.
The previous two patches contained relatively large amounts of content and changes. It was frustrating that they did not contain scanning fixes, but at least it was understandable.
This patch contains few dramatic changes; the most important of which seems to be the new inventory system that may make some things slower.
Fixing scan probes has been one of the top priorities of players for months now. It is very disappointing and frustrating that you have not made it one of your top priorities as well.
We want to spend the summer enjoying the content from Aprocrypha that hasn't worked properly since 1.1 |

Are you kidding? I don't even know what that other thing you're talking about is, but the probe issue takes something that with my skills took me after the 1.0 patch a few minutes to find a difficult site to maybe now 15 minutes because I have such a hard time clicking on the probes.
I don't have the greatest monitor in the world either so that makes it twice as difficult. Plus whoever thought it was it would be a good idea to put 'return' next to 'scan' should be taken out and flogged.

Further clarification of what particular actions are considered griefing would be helpful, here. Scam away by all means, but the freeforms are such open-ended, vague and not enforcable within game mechanics things. I avoided 'em like the plague, and not just for scams, but for, say, doing what the contract asked, and then having the contractor say I didn't complete the contract satisfactorily anyways.
I'd like to see freeforms replaced with more variety of contract types. I'm still waiting for bounty contracts, personally. When I joined Eve, I thought I might play a bounty hunter (y'know, before I learned how Eve actually works). |

...you mean because of SCAMS, right? *lol* guess that prooves in eve there is not enough honest ppl to make the freeform contract system useful ;P *sigh*
now make some green stuff appear that is for "scanning" stuff plz ^^
The piles of useless contracts made on the slim hope someone fall for them fall more on griefing than scams as they force you to wade between a lot of useless stuff to see what is useful.
The problem is not the isk that maybe they would scam (that can and is done done with the other contracts too) but the time you spend weeding out the useless contracts.

The pre-requisite skills for Capital Shield Operation have been changed. The new requirements for the training of this skill will be Shield Management V, Shield Operation V and Engineering V.
This is awesome.
I get to feel the sting that comes with being 1 day from finishing Tactical Shield Manipulation, the day after I no longer need it for cap shield boosters. Trained it on an alt not 3 weeks ago for the very same reason. That's several weeks of training time on a skill I never wanted, that I'll never get back. Wonderful Wonder-freakin-ful.
The rest of the changes look kinda useful tho, and mercifully I have the new requirements already. |

You are talking as if CCP has to actively assist griefing with bugged features. Using this kind of bugged UI features to your advantage is more like an exploit than griefing. Good riddance tbh.

The reason for a number of problems with audio in Eve can mostly be linked with the implementation of a new sound engine. It hasn't been without problems but we're almost there now. We're very sorry it has caused you such grief but hope you'll forgive us.
Most of the issues that have been discussed here have either been dealt with (in release 1.1) or are being fixed now and will be released next month.
An issue that has been raised here is Sounds (turrets in particular) getting muffled as you zoom away - this is intentional. However, before rel 1.1 it did happen much too fast - this has been addressed now. The idea of placing the listener at ship position is a good one - we will look into if we can have an option of allowing the player to choose between hearing sounds from camera or ship position.
Thanks for taking the time to write about the sound in Eve - we will do as much as possible to address these issues and future ones.
We will shortly do a special Sound blog which should help us all a lot.
This was 2 months ago, here we have a new patch...... and still nothing? Whats the odds that we can get a response on this?

Why so much noice about the audio bug? FoF missile in launchers make a repetetive noice once you have used them and it wont stop. Did not petition it but it do drives me crazy! So much I stopped using them.
It is ofcourse an endless struggle to keep players happy. But we are all different types of players.
I guess tose that have played since 2003 and own billions play differently from those that have played only a year and a half.
The universe is divided in a booring but pretty harmless part and a dead if you fly there part. Fine with me. But the mail and contract universe is equaly spread, newbiis and veterans alike. Scamming is an allowed happening some say. So you can kill and get away with it, does it make it right and honorable? it happends but is not allowed in the real world either. I won't shed any tears if it was removed from the game. But I do abide by the rules of game play (as well as the rules of my own sense of what is right and honest) It is up to CCP to define the rules of game play, as clear and concise as possible (are you taking notes?) If it is written in a mannor that confuses the not so experienced players and thereby causes unnessesary losses (more money for CCP?) then by all means we should complain!!!

I haven't really noticed an answer to the POS graphic bug question that was asked in an earlier post. It is most annoying and it would be so sweet to get that fixed or at least know when it is likely to get fixed. I am sort of worried its going to fry my GFX one day - and it makes any work at POS's a nasty experience. |

I am happy for the removal of freeforms. They were pretty much degrated into a scam tool anyhow (which for the record I have never been scammed by a scam contract), and I doubt the rp crowd used them all that much as rp is not a huge percentage of Eve anyhow.
I also love the reduction of POS timers, makes POS guys like me have an easier job.
There are still plenty of other ways to scam, go find a new method and get that one nerfed for the rest of us .

From the looks of it:
1. FW lag still not fixed (I realize it may take some time to come up with a solution but hell, you've been aware of this problem for ages now!)
2. Missing Light Electron Blaster II models still not fixed!
3. Scanning indeed still a pain in the ass
4. Point of origin for sensor booster effect on the Myrmidon not fixed
5. Other minor issues not fixed (Minmatar station lights, Taranis' upper hardpoints due to railgun model issues)
---
I appreciate your effort to improve the game but plz tend to bugs first which have been existing for like the past three major patches! I mean, you had those things working at least at one point in time so it can't be that hard to make them working again!
Thank you!

Well, it's 13:00GMT and for some reason when I try to log into EVE it still gives me:
Connection Failed Incompatible (Version)
For my status it still says Incompatible (version).
The little note above my login screen says:
Scheduled downtime every day between 11:00 and 12:00 GMT EVE Online Apocrypha 1.3 is being deployed The server is estimated to be up at 13:00 GMT/UTC.
Am I missing something here. The version I recently bought from Steam says Apocrypha on the main screen...? Or is that their ******ed way of saying, "We're not done upgrading yet, hold your horses!"?
I think they need to change that popup box to:
Sorry, we're still upgrading the server.
Instead of telling users they have an incompatible version. It's a little confusing this way!

I haven't seen a run down of all the numbers and I dont produce gear of any sort but from the sound of it these changes are going to bring down prices of tech 3 gear maybe 25% or we can think optimistically and say 75%. Its still going to be about 200+ mil for a cruiser. How much will Tech 3 battleships cost then ??
The problem is one of mindset. Someone has decided that tech 3 is going to be more expensive and harder to build than tech 2. Tech 2 cruisers cost 100+ mill already. And in my opinion are not worth the Isk. IF you want people bopping around in tech 3 ships AND you want tech 3 to be more expensive than tech 2 ccp needs to update some tech 2 to make it easier to produce to drive the prices down. Risking a prediction, in 2 months they will be down to 400 million and they will probobaly take up places in alot of hangers with some other tech 2 gear their owners dont want to risk in fights because they cant afford to replace them.

Its still going to be about 200+ mil for a cruiser. How much will Tech 3 battleships cost then ?? [...]
200mil+ (more like 300mil) sounds about right for a t3 cruiser (when compared to a t2 cruiser going for 100mil+). 300mil is the price point the devs were aiming for.

Is anyone else slightly nervous about this change to the inventory system? I have visions of CCP managing to screw up and everyone's stuff ending up in other people's hangers.....

question: It seems that I cannot download the latest patch via autopatcher or site. Anyone else has the same problem? My eve version is 89883
I see your point. But when I pay 15 Ç a month for a MMO, I expect a certain quality standard.
1. Because I continue to put money into CCP's pockets. In today's business world it is expected to get a service in return for payment. In this particular case, the service consists of server maintenance and the delivery of new content. Good so far on CCP's part. But if certain game features which were perfectly fine in the first place are broken and then not fixed for MONTHS - although they could probably be fixed in one friggin' day! - it annoys me just a little.
2. Because particularly a MMO lives from its environment so there are higher expectations to be met compared to other games.
Granted, most issues are just annoying. But there are issues which are close to game-breaking. That would include the horrible lag in Faction Warfare which basically prohibits battles with more than 15-20 peeps. Due to this my whole experience of EVE is severly restricted as I'm into PVP and not living in 0.0. Then there are issues which aren't close to game-breaking but have a severely negative impact on the feeling of the game. That would include the current sound mechanics/bugs which basically forced me to play EVE without sound.
As you can see, I'm not ranting (atm at least :-P). And the fact that I continue to post on these threads means that I think 1. this game is great and 2. the devs are competent. Otherwise, this would be a waste of time, now wouldn't it? I'm just trying to remind the people in charge that there are issues left which need to be dealt with. So EVE can be even more fun (again).
That aside, I have to say I find it dangerous if customers put their expectations low. Yes, it's just a game, I know. But usually you pay 50 bucks or so once. For Eve Online I pay 180 Ç a year! That's almost as much as my gym fee used to be. And the gym owner makes sure that his rooms don't litter up and his equipment doesn't break down, right? I know it's difficult to compare a company to a MMO. Just saying.

is anyone else having a problem with "The update file is corrupted, do you wish to download it and try again" for the primary installer?
as that I keep getting it on the auto patch and the manual downloaded one refuses to work saying my client is not my client
