Ok.. so I am fairly new to EVE, but I decided to wander out to 0.0 and try to hunt down a few, more valuable rocks.
First step was to buy and fit out a second Retriever ... one that I did not mind losing if I was jumped by Pirates or Rats. Then I planned my route to avoid areas of high ship kills and pod death, and manually piloted my way out. (Autopilot being slow and dangerous - learnt that the hard way)
So there I was in 0.0 land, with the odd person or two on local, but I was practically alone, surrounded by mountains of rock and a few HUGE nasty rats (any rat is bad for an undefended, unarmed Mining Barge ... but Battleships?? Warp - don't run!)
While the number and size of rocks on offer was impressive, apart from the practically worthless Jaspet, there was no rock that I could not find in High Sec.
Right now, I usually mine in 0.5-0.6 systems, well away from hubs (never been to Jita, don't plan to go) and I can find more Veldspar (and better) ores than I can mine in an evening's gaming. There is no lack of asteroids in High Sec, (contrary to many claims I have read in the forum) and all of the high value ores are pretty easy to find. (This coming from someone with about 6 weeks of experience.)
Sure, I saw ice fields out in 0.0, and I hear that they are worth the effort, but that's not where I am up to in the mining career path just yet. I'll also accept that it was 5 hours after downtime, so all the "good stuff" may have been taken already, hence none of the "ABC" ores, I was hoping to find.
All I wanted was to grab a small load of one of the high values ores and rush home with a sense of accomplishment that I had been to 0.0 and back, and not only survived, but and found some rocks worth mining.
Well I made it there and back .. but with an empty cargo hold. It did not feel right to wander all the way to 0.0 and come back with pockets full of Veldspar which is as common as dirt "back home".
I could have wandered deeper into Null sec... but after visiting a few fields in about 6 different systems and finding nothing of note.. it was pack up and point the Retrievers nose to home (good dog).
I read people saying "get out of High Sec" .. but really ... right now it seems completely and utterly pointless. |

0.0 varies in true security rating ("truesec") from 0.00000 to -1.00000 You need to go a bit deeper into the negative truesec before you get to a system that has any of the "ABC" ores. http://www.fluidorbit.co.uk/ Use this. MIGHT be a bit out of date, but should give you a reasonable idea.

Yes, and it will remain pointless until rogue drones no longer provide a better source of high end minerals than asteroids. |

Congratulations on discovering why the major alliances need to hold such vast swaths of space.
Most of 0.0 is absolutely, positively pointless. But to secure the few bits which are worth owning you must also capture and defend the garbage. |

Edited by: Batolemaeus on 23/06/2009 18:30:51 Yup, mining anything but ice is pretty pointless in 0.0. We import most of our minerals in the form of drone compounds or compressed in modules from empire, and it's still easier than mining that stuff. The only thing that would make sense is mining veld in regions many ly away from highsec, since it's a pain getting the tritanium there. ----------------------------------------------

The people saying get out of high sec are just those frustrated with having to fight people better than themselves and are looking for others to come and die at their hands, preferably sporting mining lasers.

Yes, mining the asteroids is pointless, because mines don't work anymore. Although it would've been fun putting a 10 megaton nuclear mine on a 'roid and blowing up a carebear to pieces. |

Its all coverd above but to sum up:
Drone Regions + the refine/mineral rations from various modules make 0.0 mining useless except for 1.Ice mining (PoS fuel and Cap fuel) or 2. for Tritanium (Cap Fleet construction consumes a HUGE ammount of Trit).

that intresting, i mine in 0.0 to build my own combat ships, because i cant be bothered to get all that transported down slash buy it since i would rather mine tha rat conisdering i have a maxed out miner and almost maxed out reprocessing
goes good for inbuilding caps
funny thign with trit is that you need alot of it for 0.0 and low sec ships like caps
and funny that 0.0 has way way way much of it

0.0 mining is usually done by 0.0 corp members who need the minerals, rather than want, to sustain the 0.0 ship/module production for 0.0 combat. The belts they mine are usually protected by their corp/alliance.
People from Empire mining 0.0 belts for ISK is a venture that should be undertaken by only the most cunning and experienced of 0.0 solo explorers.
Personally, when I mine in empire, I mine Veldspar and Scordite. They dont produce fancy minerals, but its not about the ISK per mineral, its about the ISK per hour, and when I can find untouched Veldspar belts in 0.8 space next to a system with a Federation Navy refinery plant to whom i have 6.0 standing...I make as much ISK per hour as any 0.0 miner with the same skills as me. |

Personally, I prefer to mine in high sec and bus the minerals out to 0.0.
I'll mine the harder to find minerals out there of course, but I'll be damned if I'm going to risk my ass mining veld in 0.0. |

Lol. I avoid Veld.. it just wastes precious cargo space. Out where I mine, Veld (refined to Trit) is worth about 115 ISK/m3. Kernite, on the other hand was recently worth around 250 ISK/m3. This is due to a common mission where Kernite ore is required, creating a demand for the ore, and not the minerals. Fiery and Luminous Kernite are worth practically nothing.
While the mission keeps demand high..Veld is only second best, so if you want my Veld... you can have it... I do not even have enough for a single refine job. Ozone |

I make a fairly nice spot of cash mining ark in 0.0, far more then I would ratting in the same period of time. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Wormhole sites - they have ABC ores + Veldspar. And you only have to kill the rats once. Not having local isn't really that big of a deal, just push the scan button every 2 seconds like your life depends on it, because it does.

Train up for a hulk, you can make that tough enough to tank the battleship rats, and, if you get decent drone skills you can kill them and make some extra income. And if you're looking for a place where the locals won't shoot you on sight then providence is the place to be, but providence doesn't have low enough security status to have any of the really valuable ores.
It's nice to have a station to base out of and refine, and there are NPC stations in 0.0 belonging to factions like ORE, Mordu's Legion and all the pirates, but those systems with NPC stations aren't in deep 0.0 either.
So it's not profitable, but, playing eve isn't profitable.
Best bet for a mining adventure is to scan down a wormhole that leads somewhere with different rocks. even in lame 0.0 you'll find wormholes that frequently lead to awesome 0.0 and give you a chance to mine ABC or Mercoxit. I have a skiff I use for this purpose because it would suck to get stuf on the wrong side of a WH in a hulk
You can try ninja mining in some more

who needs 0.0 when you can find a wormhole leading to a class 2 in high sec, and in that wormhole you find another wormhole leading into a untouched class 4, scan down the radar sites, find 10k units of bistot arkonor crokite and mercoxit. all that while staying 2 jumps from high sec space |

Confirmed, there is no bigger reward when mining in 0.0 except for ice and some moons.
Staying in empire = profit.

I find it hard to believe that you make 60m isk an hour (per hulk) in empire space...
sounds like someone has never mined arkonor |

This is pretty much what I said after I ventured out there. I was looking for PVP, but I was also scoping ores.
The distance you need to travel to hit the stuff is ridiculous - that and you literally need an entire 20 man fleet to protect you from a gatecamp if you hit one, as 0.0 gatecamps are all different levels of mean compared to low-sec camps.
If you factor in travel-time and potential losses, you might as well just train up for those T2 Veld Crystals and stick to Empire.
A lot of fringe empire is mostly untouched - so there can be some very peaceful mining in 0.6 and above. Just band up a couple of Hulks and an Orca - and you can turn decent isks every hour.
An improvement would be to at least improve high/low sec scan-sites to reward exploring miners a bit more, but the last time I scanned a site, all I found was 4m isk worth of Omber, barely worth the 20 minutes it took to scan down compared to just blasting some Dense Veld.
Its a shame really, but thats how it goes. |

Ark bistot and mercoxit are always worth mining if you got the logistics to transport it.

you can tell this thread is full of empire dwellers
the only protection i need in 0.0 is something to tank the rats because my intel channel takes care of the rest
of course when you OWN the space its a little different but people who dont pvp are are scared of lowsec wouldn't understand
