I call troll on this. But in the event it's not...
The key difference here is that water, power, heat, housing, even telephone and banking are generally considered necessary for day-to-day life. Surprise surprise! EvE isn't. Therefore, they are not obligated to give you a grace period on paying your bills.
Go on, head down to the BBB and tell people how the Big Mean Internet Spaceships Game Company yoinked your access immediately after not paying your sub. Go ahead. I'll bet I can hear the laughter from here.

Do i get 10 seconds extra play time per 10 seconds the server is down? No, neither should I. But on the other hand when youre subscription runs out i think its fair to let the guy finish his business prior to logoff..
This is just insane. Greedy aswell

Not only should you be disconnected with no warning, Concord should spawn and pod kill you at the same time.

i have never been logged off like that while playing but i do pay with game cards (dont have a CC) but yeah... even a ten minute warning would be nice. its very easy to forget when you last topped up.
on my phone it gives a message before every call when credit is low, and the prepay electricity meter in my house beeps when it gets to 50p credit so you know to credit the meter.
i think a once-only email reminder that happens 24 hours or so before the account expires would be a great move.

Being constructive I would have to say that if CCP can warn you an hour before the daily DT, and even give you a 5 minute on screen countdown to when DT is gonna hit, surely asking for more than a 10 second warning on account subscription lapsing is not too much to ask for?

well. tbh so far subscription lasts until after DT of that "expired date/time"
interesting to see this now.
Also others mentioned that some sort of ingame display could be made, like clicking charsheet and it says "subscription until xx.xx" i mean, now that it even notices ingame that the account runned out, why not do that step :)

If CCP don't want to allow people being logged in till downtime, then they should throw a 1 hour and 15 minute warning messages - just like they do for DT

CCP has nothing to lose by letting people know in advance that it's time to give them money. I mean, really.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

pay to play by all means but they need to have some considerations for unexpected events, like something wrong with your credit card (malfunction, unexpected balance etc).
Seriously, would it kill them to allow him a 5 minute period to get safe before they disconnect him?
that's not customer care, not in a million years.

The trial system notified you of your days remaining when it was active; surely this can be reused for GTC users if you're < 7 days away from account expiration?
That said, I think it's time to break out the T2 calendars.

Actually for millions of people running off a meter the power goes the second you are overdue. Same goes with mobiles you run out of credit on. And banks are mean as hell, that EFT is presented 20 seconds before midnight and your pay goes in at midnight say hello to Mr bouncy. Do you actually live in the real world or what?

I personaly would like a message on the log in screen if your account runs out in less than 3 days and a Message 30 Minutes before you get disconnected from the server about it would actualy be great to move your ship out of harms way if you forget to resub the Account or donŠt plan to resub it right now.
It happend to me once, didnŠt loose anything but it was still anoying. Most of the RL examples are preaty mutch crap, people are lazy, people forget things, people managing multiple accounts, eve got tons of warnings on all kind of stuff allready, itŠs a video game you pay for and you can actualy loose quite some stuff if this happens in the wrong situation. A Message giving the player enught time to act wouldnŠt hurt.

i spoke about exactly the same things you mentioned in an earlier post, and i said that i was offered a warning (for my phone and electric meters). its really your last sentence that got me interested. i imagine that he does indeed live in the real world, and the fact that millions of people running off a meter (like me) could potentially disagree with you.
the argument in this thread is more about "surely CCP could give a little warning..." than "some people have meters that don't warn them! why should this be any different?" and the answer to that is simply because it can be different.
the addition of a 'subscription time running low' warning would harm nobody, and even if it benefited only a few, i think it is worth it.

Judging by this thread i guess there's not much chance of setting up a players union then.
Seriously though, they bug the hell out of you for the hour before downtime, and that happens every single day most of the time, but they can't give you a warning for the once a month - year that your sub runs out? I'd happily swap 2 of the 3 daily warnings for 60 -730 subscription ending warning messages.

Actually, I think this is a bad move. A lot of players subscribe with game time codes and it's not immediately obvious to them when their account expires. I know my main account is subbed up for something like a year but the others I'd have to log into the account page with to check. In light of this post I'll do exactly that but there are lots of people that won't see this post. I mean it's one thing to be unable to log in due to your sub running out but if you were disconnected during pvp due to it, it could be terrible.
Wish there was somewhere in game that told you something like date of next billing period, how many days left, ect ingame.

This makes a lot of sense tbh.
I remember being disconnected in the middle of a roaming op a few years ago and, while it didn't take too long to figure out what was going on, an advance warning like this would have helped avoid the inconvenience altogether.

Eve is a pay to use service.
It's not. It's a paid contract service.
eg. Pay as you go Mobile Phone is a pay to use service. Your billed for the calls you make. A paid contract service is when you pay your mobile operator a monthly fee and then get free calls. Which is how Eve works.
But this is beside the point, which is:
a) You only get 10 seconds warning, b) Nobody told us about the change. (Did they ?)
Had I known I would have paid more attention to my expiration time.
What change? it's done this for at least 2 years.

Actually, lots of games show account time remaining at log-in, EVE does not, so it is something easy to forget and it's not something reasonable to expect someone to know. This isn't like being evicted where it is a major expense so it will be easy to remember, it's a minor expense, so why would someone remember.
Personally, I hate using time cards, but since CCP changed how they process cards, they won't accept my cards, even though my old one used to work. But at least I haven't been auto-logged myself. I just try to log-in to change a skill and find out I can't.

Don't see why if there is not a continuous payment cycle setup they don't flag it on the logon screen...I don't knwo if they still do that for the trials but they used to do so. Damm they used to let stay logged on till the next downtime. It could really screw you up if the payment system decides to go nuts again (lets face it its happened before).
Its a harsh game...but there is some right morons posting in this thread TBFH. ========= "I am not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why can`t we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem fix its self |

Uh, no. I pay for my game time codes with cash since the ISK prices shot up a long time ago. I use game time codes because I don't have a credit card and I like to update my sub in short intervals. And even if someone does pay for game time codes with isk, SOMEONE had to buy that code with cash. CCP doesn't lose out and those pilots are every bit paying customers.
