I believe that the idea that I already tossed out is productive and enriching. :) You are just failing to see it in the way that I meant it. Instead you are only worried about your own self-interests. :)
I really didn't think that a hauler would mind paying 2k per jump when their business is increased 10-fold.

You overestimate the outcome. People are stingy. 10k for small hauls to 1m for freighter runs 18 jumps. If you think all I do is hauling you are sadly mistaken, it is something I do on the side while I move other things for myself. Keep in mind too that any null sec alliance would have to pay their wings wages through to attack another area.
In my eyes your idea is flawed because it is not beneficial to any section of the EVE sandbox. It does not encourage contracts. It discourages moving those contracts. It discourages missioning for that far off agent. It compartmentalizes zones. EVE is an MMO, interaction is a good thing. Stifling interaction is a bad thing.
Advanced accounting : "Bean Counter" require accounting 5 and trading 5 Broker communication : I would rather this drop the % the broker charges Advertising : I doubt this skill is possible with regards to implementation. Salesman : same as Advertising Provisioning : This interests me. Distributors relations : Related to broker communications, possible redundant, overall goal is to remove or zero out all broker fees. Solvency : while this is interesting it may not be prudent. Does the bank impound your sell orders if the solvency is not paid back in 5 days down time? There needs to be some penalty for abuse. Banking negotiations : perhaps this but with the time frame penalty

It is nice to see a lot of ideas bouncing around! I don't have much to add at present, but one small concern jumped out at me, buried in one suggested skill:
Originally by: Daphne Eveningstar Market Manipulation Level 1 - can cancel orders immediately (under 5 minutes) Level 2 - can modify quantity on buy orders level 3 - can modify quantity on sell orders level 4 - can adjust range on buy orders level 5 - can adjust range on sell orders
This skill should require Daytrading and Broker Relations. For changing the range on remote buy orders Visibility would still be needed.
The 'range' of a sell order should (as now) only ever be 'current location of the goods'. I realize that this is a normative position: I think that goods should not magically move themselves from one place to another, especially not by means of skill.
If you want something at a location where it's not currently sold, or at a price below that which is currently available there, too bad! Buy it elsewhere and ship it or set up a courier contract, build it there or get someone to build it for you, or set a buy order at your desired location...

I'm 100% with you, July83. But let me troll a bit firstly, or... more.
Besides the broken insurance and mineral issue, there are quite a bit of things that should've come into place... such as...
Not to mention drug trafficking, there are several types of activities yet to be implemented in EO such as smuggling. ( You wouldn't expect to trade between two hostile nations w/o paying heavy taxes or involving high risk. would you? )
If you turned off ur beloved EO, you'd immediately face lots of tangible walls besides competition on your way that might hinder your motivation to trade in real life; endless types of lovely taxes, bizarre regulations, bureaucratic c***, even egos from big players. Well, I don't see that. nope. ( you know that when you load up tons of ammo and turrets, you instantly become a arms dealer. Way to go for customs inspection. )
How would you expect two hostile nations using exactly the same currency while they are in heavy war? Well, if they do, it's obvious that none of high powers really understand why Benjamin Franklin looks drained on 100 dollar note. If I have a deeeeep pocket and evil will to topple one and favor another, I will be sitting on huge pile of RL iskies after all havoc is gone.
I can keep going on with things like this, but let me stop trolling before being ganked and insta-buried. But, what I'm trying to point is it should come first to reconstruct what is going on in EO, rather than adding few more skills to grow skill point. Skills are there for, at least to me, "empowering user" to give more experience/hour ratio that would not be available for starters, not for few more decorations on your character tab.
EO is more of PVP game and spicing up with economic side will take some time. Until the time comes, We can endlessly whining CCP to drag their feet into it.

What about adding
Advanced Contracting... Which could ... Add 5 more contracts per level and require Contracting V
Which is rooted from
Contracting This skill allows you to create formal agreements with other characters. For each level of this skill the number of outstanding contracts is increased by four (up to a maximum of 21 at level 5)

I see so many good ideas here :)
But keep in mind, we don't want skills that makes trading automatic. Like "when X happens do Y". We just want something to extend the range of our specialization.
I will regroup ideas later on in main post.
P.s> as for contracting, it does require some re-work and more skills (but main problem is current mechanics - they need to make contracts much more accessible and manageable, like firstly adding - right click on item > view contracts.

I like things as they are. There's only so many skills you can utilise as a trader without training just for the point of training.
There's only a single skill I want:
Advanced Tycoon
Make it Rank 16 with a cost of 450m and 100 order slots per level.
That would make me **** in my pants |

I saw your points on my ideas and you are right. Seems "provisioning" is liked by everyone, I definitely think this one is needed please CCP think of it, and its easy to implement

One of the questions here was: what can I train now that I maxed trading and hauling and am not interested in PvP or mining with this alt?
Besides training another alt in another slot, one possibility would be to train corporation management skills. You could then even make some money by selling alliance creation services. And even mega corp creation/upgrade services.
Not many have maxed out skills in that area.

Edited by: Grozen on 17/04/2009 13:43:40 I'd like to get banker skill where you earn 1% per lvl every month for each 100m in your wallet and maybe advanced banking which increases the maximum to 10% now that would suit traders much more and would kill the useless ipos out there. Not to mention it will eliminate alot scams. knowledge is power |
