I am loving this ship and what it can do. I don't know if it's over powered because the setup I have I know its limits and like most ships it has those limits and strengths.
Anyone else loving this ship as well? What are your setup and experiences?
Ill share mine if you share yours |

Park in POS with a bunch of small ships around it... wait for scout to find something... light Cov Cyno, and jump bridge fleet. No real fun other than that.

Sure but for solo it does dps and ecm.
Has anyone not tried and tested it and found it to be as exciting as I found it?

nope, as even with sensor boosters, takes too long to lock things. So no locking delay is pointless after uncloaking, as you get a delay anyway from the amount of time it takes to grab something.
Only thing its good at is..... Jamming i guess if u manage to lock anything to jam before you die, or, just plain simply, jumping your stealth fleet to somewhere |

I tested Widow extensively on SiSi, and found it to be all but unstoppable 1v1 against almost any BS except Mach. It's biggest weakness is getting outrun or drawing heavy drone aggro. In either case, you just warp off and call it good.
With 5 torp launchers and a cloak, it has only 1 high slot left for a large smartbomb. It's enough to kill a flight of Hammerhead IIs just within it's shield buffer, but not Ogres.
The other issue is that having the Improved cloak kinda gimps its locking time. So you need a sebo w/scan res script to compensate.
You also need to be very aware of its capacitor limitations. Like most Caldari ships, it has a crappy cap. With everything running you only get about a minute of cap. w/o the MWD or smartbomb running, its stable at around 50%.
It gets over 1000dps with Rage torps, 3x CN BCS, and a flight of Hammerhead IIs. And for a BS, it's fairly speedy at 133 m/s.
In the right hands, it will crush an incompetent or poorly trained BS pilot. But if you choose poorly, you could be in for a rude awakening.
Personally, I love the velocity boost while cloaked. With Black Ops trained to 4, it's actually faster cloaked than not. This allows for a full speed align while cloaked, followed by an insta-warp upon uncloaking. I wouldn't use it to bust gate-camps, though. Especially when a cheap cyno alt (or not so cheap covert cyno alt) will let you jump past it. "How do you kill that which has no life?" |

Thank you all for your replies. I helps to hear others intakes on the ship that I have kinda fallen in love with. I agree it has it faults but don't most ships? I mean is there really any one ship thats perfect? If there is I am sure someone will let me know
The Widow has a use for me currently being in a worm hole and entrance defence.
I pushed the skill to level 5 thats how much I love it or in other peoples eyes how stupid I am? I don't know its just what I wanted to do.
Ive called it into play a few times and each time I won quite well.
Moving around quite fast cloacked and then popping up behind someone I can imagine scares the crap out of people. Yes the lock time is long and to those who its long agaisnt they flee. So job done. Ok I don't get the kill but the Wormhole is protected somewhat.
Where those who have stayed and faught they have died without much of a scratch to me. With my jamming skills there really isnt any one ship I cannot jam but I do understand vs a 2nd I have yet to be tested and fear it wouldn't turn out well for me.
With that said it's one of the very few ships I really enjoy flying.

IMHO the Panther is even more fun.
Triple RF Gyros + Overdrives, 5 x SEBO, 5 x 1400m and a DG Cloak.
520m/sec cloaked, locks your average covops in 2.5 secs, and alpha's with 10k damage (5% & 3% implants) from 40km then instawarps.
If you want a boat that pwns covops, desties and badly-fitted cruisers that have just jumped into your wh, the Panther does it in spades. The box said "Requires Windows-á2000 or better", so I installed Linux. |

so you'd spend well over a bill and a half for a glass cannon that kills destroyers? why not fly a sabre or use an instalock t3? not to mention that all those benefits you ilsted require blackops 5 AND cloaking 5, which are two of the least trained or used skills in the game.
people on this board are way too pro for me. |

no i'm talking about Bibosikus and his ridiculously skill-intensive panther.
i love the redeemer, and i fly one. wouldn't lose it. but the perfect world he was blathering on about requires like three months just for the two LV skills he'd need to get the numbers he was talking about. |

Yep. But I'm strictly subcap and ran out of interesting stuff to train, so BOps 5 it was I've been remapped on will/perc anyway, so it took about 35 days. Cloaking skill at V I haven't done, it's not needed for 685m/sec (use a DG Cloak). Ofc, Estamel's Cloak wld give the Panther a rather eye-bulging 822m/sec, without another 26 days' training.. 1.5 bill seems like a reasonable trade for that
I just like flying different/interesting/fun fits. The isk doesn't bother me; I can't enjoy a game if I'm having to watch the pennies. The box said "Requires Windows-á2000 or better", so I installed Linux. |

Well 6 years is a pretty long time don't you think? I have 97mill SP, all subcap. I live in w-space or null and I'm perfectly happy earning a few bill a week and getting the odd killmail. I enjoy playing the game and exploring ideas that people like you seem to think aren't worth considering.

I plan to fly a Widow one day. I like what it can do, and have a healthy respect for what it can't do. I guess it does appear to be a bit overkill for ordinary stuff, but then it's not meant for that - it's Cov Ops, after all. I'm sure in the right hands and used for the right purpose, it would be awesome and that's after all the negative comments I've read about it. I'm glad I found this thread - I'll be looking for pointers on how to fit it when the time comes.... |

Widow 101:
1) Find solo carebear target with alt. 2) Web/scram/paint target, light cyno. 3) Jump in, gank target, scoop the loot. 4) Sit cloaked in local and harvest tears of rage while your alt finds another target.
The only advantage of the Widow (outside of sitting at a POS bridging bomber gank blobs) is you can scout for targets with a noob alt and keep your main out of local. It's amusing, but you're risking a lot of ISK on a ship that's going to die horribly if you jump in on a bait ship.
PS: talking about cloaked speed for a ship without a covops cloak is just silly. If you're moving around under cloak in a black ops, you're doing something very, very wrong.
PPS: if you want to gank careless idiots in covops frigates (the only kind that are decloaked long enough to lock them), just get a bomber and save yourself 90% of the ISK. |

It may be skill intensive, but it's damn worth it if put to the correct usage. Take this guy for example. Panther is all he flies, other than his alts Arazu, and he hasn't lost a ship since last July.

Er, nope. I'm just doing it very, very differently. And as I said, it's a lot of fun although, like many things in Eve, it requires patience :)
I had to grin at your next sentence where you suggest using a Bomber to kill Cov Ops, which is absolutely the "very, very wrong" way to use a Bomber. But still fun :)

theyr'e all solo kills on morons ratting in low. he's got a few strat cruiser kills, yeah, but everyone knows that strats are susceptible to alpha, which is what he's doing on them. add in 30 pos mod kills, 25 capsule kills where his instalock arazu scrammed the guy after he killed the ship, and the rest are all frigates and cruisers. a few t3 battlecruisers.
don't get me wrong, they're good numbers for a solo pvper. lowsec is a wasteland, though, so it's not really my cup of tea. |
