Scammer. Love'em, hate'em, suffice to say MD has a complicated relationship with them.
On one hand they take our isk, on the other they also remind us to be careful in our market dealings and with whom we entrust our isk with. They keep us on our toes and challenge us (sometimes not) to avoid being scammed.
ISK Taker
Here is one scammer who, in his own words, 'is the one who reveals the magic tricks.' Its also a diary of scams he does in New Eden.
Thought it would be an interesting read for MD regulars.

Not really the first blog for a scammer. I remember there was one who had published his "tricks" regarding leaving eve and blah blah blah. He's the reason why everytime you go to Jita, its full of copycats.

******s can scam. Doesn't take much in the way of smarts.

You only have to be one step ahead of your mark to scam, this is true. The majority of scammers in eve are doing very simple things and are often just playing a percentage game, whereby if you throw enough **** at the wall then some of it is bound to stick.
However, I would not play down the merit of some of the more intelligent and original scams that have occured. They are few and far between, but I feel they can be appreciated for the art and thought that has gone into them... although that may be harder to accept if you are the victim.
I'm primarily a PvPer and I often win battles through guile and subterfuge rather than brute force. How different is that from well executed scamming, other than the scenery?
Suspend disbelief for a moment and ignore the years of work I have put in to building my reputation and the quantity of isk I make purely by using the trust that other people have for me. Now imagine someone with my intelect and knowledge comming up with a truely fiendish scam. Yes, that would be totally different to the simple Jita/contract scams and quick cons that are rife in eve, but it would still be a scam. Not all scams and scammers are equal. Some are simple pariahs and some are evil masterminds. Fortunately the latter is rarer than hen's teeth. |

By itself, not really, no. I am more amused though that he profeses to educate people on how to avoid scams while still doing it himself. Basically that he trying to raise the bar on scamming. |

I didn't read the blog, there is no need to. There is more skill, art, and intelligence in making everyone give you billions of ISK for virtually nothing in return and making them believe it's a good thing.
A scam is nothing but a un-lubbed anal quickie, the skill comes from humping the entire EVE population and them believe it's a good thing, so good in fact they keep coming back for more, and them paying YOU to bone them!

So that's why we see a lot of Russian scammers. |

The other one who blogged his scams was ROME0.
Scammed about 60b in total from his various scams even though I told people he was a scammer from Day 1 (with proof), CCP mods covered it up (deleted my posts) allowing him to mass scam through various services. |

Well, I don't claim to be an uber scammer; but I do know the ropes, and successfully net around 600-1b+ isk in about two hours or just 'trying'.
EDIT: Viros is just one of my many characters :)

There is something to admire in really good scams.
Reithe and Xabier both did long term social manipulations which is especially hard. The long term scam is hard to defend against, and if executed well is pretty good.
Rome0 was good on that he thought of a very simple SCAM and was the first to try it. It seems so stupid its legitimate, people kept on falling for it for days & weeks. Rome0's original scam has been copied almost every day in Jita. Immitation is the best sort of flattery.
It would be interesting to hear if Fury was a SCAM or whether his business imploded when BRUCE did and he couldn't be bothered to try and sort out the train wreck. If it was a SCAM I would say one of the best as he paid over 100% of the initial investment in divs in over a year. Wish he would post!
The best SCAMS you don't even know about, because a truly successful con man keeps your con without you knowing it. In the end the ego is usually too big that they have to gloat.
The only scammer I have no respect for was Evn&*^%. Can't even remember the numbers. He got money off Xabier's work and skill. No brains required when someone runs a puppet.
