I might be biting my tongue in 4 weeks, but it cannot be worse then when Trinity hit the 'shelves', can it? Until proven wrong, I keep with the believe that CCP & Co. have learned something from that 'experience'.

Originally by: Rees Noturana They already announced that the version in the box went to press sometime in January I think. It was a special version of QR between 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 with the Premium content loaded for Mac to help reduce the patch size.
I missed that announcement. Do you have a pointer? That's anyway what I would have also done.

Hopefully they did. But they did not learn the "do not talk deadlines untill you know you can meet them".
They now MUST meet the march 10 deadline. It's not like they can handle it the way they handled the "Mac dev blog coming next week" deadline.
I'm not CCP. But according to the reports I hear of current SiSi status, that's were they should have been in early november to even consider a march 10 deadline.

Yea. And they nerfed Casqade work schedule too: he's now working only 25 hours a day.

That's what CCP Casqade does in idle mode. You do not want to know what he does in Chuck Norris mode :)

On friday the 13th?
I think half of CCP stayed at home to avoid accidentally the whole thing.

I know, ironic, right? I think it would be very comical for CCP to roll out the patch today, just to irk us. |

It would be very comical for CCP not to roll out the new build AS SOON AS IT IS READY. It's not a question of irking us. It's a question of getting as much as possible done before march 10. And given what I have seen earlier when I borrowed a friend's Mac that has a Bootcamped Vista setup and spent a dozen minutes on SiSi, they need all staff to work 25 hours a day if they want to have it about 50% ready in time. |

Meh... I was hoping Cascade would have been waiting for the next Sisi patch to roll out before he would give us the Mac-stuff. Looks like that was just me hoping.
If they dont't give us a beta to test with on the March 10th they will have out a badly tested alpha :( Which is not nice, as roll-backs would not be possible and we would just be kicked out from the game - moar ragequits from Mac users. I hope we have time to test things on Sisi well before the launch and maybe find the critical issues early enough to be fixed in time. We should not be forced to beta test on TQ anymore.

So let's play the game, guess when the mac premium version will have access to the premium server again: I say either monday, or wednesday, when the patch goes out. What say you?

Does that mean you managed to go to SiSi with the eretic client? I did take advantage of a friend that has the thing bootcamped to have a look. And that's why I'm so scared.
In the 5 minutes I have been there I've seen so many problems that I could have spent several hours writing bug reports. It was in such an horrible state that I do not even think it is worth debugging at all: problems are so evident that no developer that runs the client can miss them. It felt like if they deployed it only to collect data for T3 balancing purposes.
Very scary!

Hmmmm, is there gonna be any more beta testing for the mac CCP?
I know you guys don't like to be rushed, but this is looking pretty scary for mac users. Not like the "Mac premium Q1" fiasco, where we had a regular client to fall back on. This is the total discontinuation of the standard client for mac if i have read all posts correctly... Meaning that the premium 'lite' client is all we are going to be able to use post March 10th. And with just 3 weeks to go.. we cant even access the test server to help iron out the bugs!
Im praying for someone to flame me and point me in the direction of the correct patch, yet somehow not holdiing my breath too much either...

Me is glad I've been mostly using the mac client as a skill changer for quite some time now, after finding out EVE ran better in XP using Premium graphics - kinda been hoping I might be able to switch to just using the Mac version with a premium client being rolled out, haven't been holding my breath for it working well enough to PvP though
That said, I really don't see CCP leaving us without a working Mac client, even if that means an ugly ugly hack to, say, use the Rupture graphic for the Loki in the Mac client while they frantically fix the new premium client. The good news is that with the team structure CCP is using for this expansion, they likely have a team focusing on the Mac client, and considering the problems that Sisi has been having with the most recent Windows build, it's quite likely the Mac client update delay may not even be due entirely to Mac specific problems... crossing my fingers here

I really hope that that's the case! If its stuff thats not particularly mac specific we may get a client yet!

You already got that:
Quote: Posted - 2009.02.09 20:31:00 - [8] The TQ->SISI has been delayed. It should be there tomorrow together with the full installer and new version of cider. I'll reply here when I have the builds.
So, no reply = no builds. Just wait. Be patient. Nothing we can do to help out, now. Chill. Stop whining as a certain Dr. sheep would say. Relax, and hope for the best.

To be fair, we're down to 2 weeks until M10. Considering how little bug reporting and fixing can be done in 2 weeks from past experience, it's probably an appropriate time to panic. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

I hate to say it, but I think this is a good time to be exploring temporary alternatives to the Mac client (bootcamp, Parallels, "pure" Wine, etc.)

I'm sure they will have a Mac client that works to some extent for some users, and as soon as they have sorted out the most serious bugs with the Windows client they will start prioritising Mac client issues. My prediction would be...
* Initial release works reasonably well on some Macs with specific hardware and OS versions, very buggy for many others * Some of the bugs will be serious enough to make the Mac client effectivly unplayable for a sizable minority of Mac users * We'll see a massive increase in flame-quitting on the forums * There will then be a number of "point" releases, with gradual improvements to Mac client stability and performance * For each patch there will be the usual revert patch in case it makes things worse for some people * In a couple of months the Mac client reaches the level of stability it has atm with Classic * Over the months that follow that, the single codebase (and dropping support for older macs) allows them to push stability even higher
Of course, I really hope I'm wrong and it all goes smoothly.
