With resists at 83, 76, 68, 73, and 6836 HP of shield (with a passive recharge rate 225) EFT says over all hit points are 40K.
DPS = 583 at 18Km and speed is 1038 M/S
All mods can be sustained for 2 Min 35 seconds.
These are some of the best numbers I have seen for a HAC on EFT so far. except its not a HAC, this is a HAM Drake.
People have told me that Cruiser 5 (thus HAC) is the way to go for PVP ever since I started playing Eve. However I have always been partial to BC and Commandships. As far as EFT numbers go the above seems pretty darn good.
I am basically wondering if there is something I am missing regarding HACs that would make them fundamentally better then the above. I know a Drake is a particularly good ship, but Harby and Cane are no slackers either. |

far as i know HAC's get a lot more bonii to damage and resists. this gives them more ehp, more dps, and other stuff. it also takes a lot less training to get the maximum from the ship's bonii. |

HAC vs BC
DPS: BC Pure Tank: BC Resistances: HAC Speed: HAC Agility: HAC Insurable: BC
Generally HACs lose to BCs in terms of gank+tank, but they are fast and agile which makes them better for roaming gangs of smaller ships. A BC is a mini BS, a HAC is a beefed up cruiser.

no, u fly a hac when you want mobility and complete control over an engagement. BC's will always give you better gank/tank numbers for eft, they are cheaper and more effective to use in a large gang "SPEED + GANK = SPANK... Spank that ***** up" |

Bingo, though in certain cases HACs can out tank and out dps their equivalent BC (deimos/brutix, sac/prophecy, vaga/cyclone, eagle/ferox)

Brutix/Myrm > Deimos, Hurricane > Vaga, Harbinger/Prop > Zealot/Sac, Eagle = fail, Drake > Cerb
Thats all as far as DpS/Tank matters, speed and agility depends more on fit than ship class. Other than the Vaga of course which gets a speed bonus.
HACs perform niche roles, BCs are all around better ships though outside of that narrow role.
Also, don't use EFT to make fits, that recharge on shields is fail, needs moar buffer.

EFT dps and actual applied missile dps numbers are often WILDLY different.
That 583 dps you see is almsot certainly reliant upon multiple webs and probably a painter depending on target.

QFT
EFT DPS for all missiles assumes the target is 1) holding still and 2) you are punching above your weight or have the target sufficiently painted(example: hitting a cruiser with light missiles/rockets, or a BC with heavy missiles/HAMs).
In practice, cut EFT DPS by ~15% for a target sitting still, and ~40%-90% for an ABing unwebbed target(both "intended").
In my opinion the Harbinger or may be the Hurricane are the best options currently; though, any BC (even the Ferox) could be made to work in pvp but in the case of Ferox it would mostly be for the comedy of it. |

You're ignoring one key factor: speed. A HAC is going to have a 3-400m/s advantage (or more) over that Drake, even with just a MWD, and it's going to be a lot more agile. While the BC will always win in a close-range slugging match, the HAC's vastly superior mobility is a priceless advantage in a lot of situations. -----------
